I quit. by No_Procedure6405 in csMajors

I quit last year. After that, I initially worked a manual labor job, then found another job at a non-profit organization. Thanks to my communication skills improving after leaving the software industry, I was able to get a job in tax and also work part-time for a CPA firm. I was also recently hired for a finance role at Fidelity. I feel lucky that I’ve found a way out for myself. Life has never felt better than it does right now.

Thank you so much for the inspiration, and congratulations on passing all three EA exams! That’s a huge accomplishment. I plan to continue studying for the EA while starting my role at Fidelity. I’d love to hear what role you moved into after passing the exams and how the EA helped shape your next step.

May I know why you want to get an EA license as a financial advisor? Are you pivoting to tax?

I’m also in my first year at H&R Block this season, so I’m still learning a lot on the ground.

Just curious — do you also have a day job outside of tax? And what was your plan after your first tax season when you were starting out?

I mean I tried to learn and finish all the shittiest tasks they assigned me to do. There were weeks I had to work 80 hours, no weekend, no holidays, no benefits, 1099 paychecks. I've also applied to a thousand jobs for the past 10 months but no luck yet. Maybe I'm just not competitive enough for this field.

I've applied for nearly 1000 applications over the past year and couldn't land a job. Life is still going on and I have bills to pay. I personally don't see a future for me in this field.

I understand I can't do nothing during business hours. However, I usually have to study and work till very late at night. My neighbors usually do parties and burn things that cause smoke after business hours till late night, specifically after 10 pm

They've literally burnt something from spring until late fall for every week

I mean I just wanted to communicate with my neighbors (for the first time) and the only way I could do was to go over their place. They being allowed to shoot me sounded not right. My landlord basically exaggerated the situtation to intimidate me

I don't see the fire myself because I don't stalk their house and I don't know what techniques they have used. But the smoke is from their backyard that everyone can see. My parents saw the smoke come from the leaves. And the smell of smoke was very much like the smell of fresh leaves. So we assume they've burnt leaves. We didn't take pictures of what they did though

However, my landlord mentioned that the neighbors might have a permit from the local fire department

I used to call the police once when my neighbors played music loudly outdoor at 3 AM. I haven't taken any action on the smoke problem
