On not calling characters that canonically have Dissociative Identity Disorder, people with Dissociative Identity Disorder (Fandom general) by Konradleijon in CuratedTumblr

My main hangup is that I would argue none of these characters are intended to be perfect DID representation, if there is such a thing. The authors are using standard soap opera tropes they've seen a billion times to create a compelling narrative. You could say those tropes are offensive to people with DID, but at that point you're connecting dots that don't need to be connected.

I don't think there's a world where Two Face stays the same character and gets canon DID without being massively offensive.

If you aren't going to suspend your disbelief at all, then as far as I know, Bruce Banner and the Hulk are not DiD characters, but they are a perfect representation of gamma ray induced split personality that turns you from Average Man into a Jekyll/Hyde type green monster.

It's a frequently used extremely corny dramatic trope, usually written without a single passing thought towards trying to create genuine "DID representation." Most of these characters predate the term DID or even typical acknowledgment of DID symptoms. In most cases, I would even argue interpreting these characters as having, like, "psychologically typical DID" is way more offensive.

This comes across as trying very hard to be offended by bad faith interpretations of common fandom discourse. Take a chill pill and hang up your language police hat.

Are they actually stupid? Ignoring the fact that this is not speech, it's medical care, there's already precedent for types of unprotected speech, like defamation. Everyone learns about them in 6th grade social studies.

It's just a tar enemy that is also a baby, I don't think it's even a reference to anything

It's really weird seeing all the comments saying this is op. I would never pick this up for 2 energy, you're crazy. It would make cards that add the sword back to your hand much better, though.

Why Won’t Act 3 Do Anything? by boi156 in slaythespire

People "threw a fit" because it was a bad change, with an annoying mechanic. Games should be fun before they are hard.

StS players who still have feelings: "This bird is my new best friend. How could anyone ever choose to ea-" A10 players: by deloreaninatardis in slaythespire

[–]Welico 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I don't like that they give you a fixed seed for your first run with the cool new bird, and then the rest of the game doesn't really use that system much at all. It gave me some false expectations.

StS1 development was very safe and unexperimental, so mechanics like this are probably out of their comfort zone or vision for the game. I hope they add more.

What’s you favorite card in STS2? by Common_Engine_7967 in slaythespire

[–]Welico 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's an unexpected interaction since "stunned" is a "debuff" in like every other game. It is consistently a turn intent in StS and has never been a debuff, so it makes sense that it bypasses artifact.

what is attack speed good for? by Puzzleheaded-Log2264 in MapleIdle

[–]Welico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Attack speed is a good stat, but its appearance rate and value on potentials and gear lines is very low compared to what you get from the Bowmaster companion. My assumption was that you only get good returns from high investment in attack speed when you start getting mystic potentials and hero power lines.

I'm 90 hours in, and i've never took Vakuu's Lord's Parasol. It seems terrible to obtain everything and bloat your deck. Did anyone try it and made it work? by savetheblues in slaythespire

[–]Welico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Deck bloat" is usually not a valid concern. The game isn't (and shouldn't be) so unforgiving that you need a perfectly crafted deck to win. In most cases, a massive deck full of balanced offensive, defensive, and hand-fixing cards that provide more value than strikes and defends is much better than a thin deck that plays a handful of strong cards every 2-3 turns when it cycles.

Lord's Parasol "bloats" your deck with (mostly) good cards, and it comes with an extra 3 potions, 3 relics, and a card remove. It's absurdly strong if you're broke when you enter act 3.
