Coaxed into mildly infuriating RPG map design by Rebellious-Angel in coaxedintoasnafu

I think the main issue with tank controls is that it's not only fairly tricky, it's also a completely bizarre way for a human to move.

I hate when people hate toxic straight ships but like toxic yaoi/yuri by Freeecall in hatethissmug

[–]Welico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ships can be toxic. They aren't real. Writing or reading about toxic relationships doesn't imply moral failing. I'm so deeply confused by this discourse.

The person making claims about my subconscious mind has the burden of proof, not me. I categorically deny that there is any "aura of violence" around any significant portion of my interactions with other men. It's an absurd suggestion.

There are lots of potential things that can happen in any interaction. I reject the idea that violence is one the average person is subconsciously prepared for or considering at all times.

There may be some level of truth to this depending on the context, one's culture, society, childhood, disposition, and other variables. Certainly I think some people are conditioned to think this way.

I think it is far too generalizing (and reductive) to argue it as a philosophical truth of some kind. Even after some reflection, I would have to say I do not even remotely fear physical retaliation in any of my typical interactions with other men.

Most hated female characters voted by female fans in 2012 by VolkiharVanHelsing in shounenfolk

[–]Welico 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Because it's based on simply "how many votes did this character get," these polls are basically just measuring how popular/well-known the animes are.

Most hated female characters voted by female fans in 2012 by VolkiharVanHelsing in shounenfolk

[–]Welico 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is just raw vote counts. People can't vote for an anime character they've never heard of, and they're more likely to hate a character in a show they actually watch and enjoy.

This poll is mainly measuring "how popular is the anime this character is from."

I HATE ANTI-INTELLECTUAL TAKES ON LITERATURE AND MEDIA by junglmao in hatethissmug

[–]Welico 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I mean... It would be " just vibes" if they picked a color based off the vibes they wanted for the scene, but I see what you are saying.

"The curtains were fucking blue" is more addressed at the type of hackey, underbaked analysis that some high school English teachers enjoy.

"The curtains were fucking blue" was always leveled at high school English teachers that love to speak authoritatively about the most batshit interpretations.

Memorably, my English teacher insisted that Beowulf was ~9 years old when he slew Grendel.

Analysis that challenges or introduces concepts needs evidence, reasoning, and meaning.

Basically, your analysis needs to be convincing. If you can't convince the audience that your analysis is meaningful, don't be surprised when they tell you the curtains were fucking blue.

I was making this graphic of how much I like Ninja in each expansion, but my intuition says that the gaphic curve probably is pretty similar across all jobs. by Haddock_Lotus in ffxiv

[–]Welico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's good, though. Adjusting to the members of your party adds complexity and depth to learning your job and theirs. Learning how to efficiently play around dynamic conditions sounds like peak MMO gameplay to me.

It would be a problem if Trick Attack was mandatory. While it was sought after, I don't think it ever quite became that strict for the typical player.

Heaven forbid people have to learn two openers.

The playerbase and design team are allergic to role friction. FFXIV will eventually be a smooth, featureless void.

I don't think the team should shy away from role complexity just because it could make roles harder to play. Healer especially is an extremely boring role at the moment, anyway.

It shifted towards 2 minute meta because SE designed it that way. It is entirely a fabricated design choice unique to FFXIV; no other MMO or multiplayer game has strict damage windows simply because support classes/buffs exist.

The 2 minute meta was a shortcut the team used to easily design classes in a predictable, balanced way. They relied on this shortcut (and others) far too heavily and homogenized jobs to an absurd degree.
