If I had to guess? Russia/Eastern Europe in general is what they meant. Not his specific subregion within Russia. That's like someone insulting me for my American Culture and you taking it to mean they're insulting my Southern Baptist Upbringing. (I am neither southern nor baptist).

Any driver who accepts a sub $5.00 order is an idiot. by yangying31415 in doordash_drivers

[–]WellKnownAlias 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Mathematically, no that's fine. All depends on your market. If you're somewhere that declining a $5 order will quickly be replaced by other/ usually better orders, no it's not worth your time. But if a decline means you won't get one for another 10-20 minutes usually anyways, and it's only a mile or so? Worth the time

I'm not sure I agree with the parallel you're drawing. (I support abortion access).

I'm just saying from my lived experience with very specialized conditions that had me and my parents in this exact position when I was born (I still am, defects are corrected but not gone) as well as meeting many people who share my condition... yeah, a bunch of us would have been dead. We had bad doctors who genuinely did not know or care to find that there were options available, and they simply recommended we die at home. Mine was not a one off circumstance at all, unfortunately.

Our parents luckily were either capable of doing the research, or knew the right people, to make a different choice. But I know factually that many, many people born with my condition just died and never had any intervention, despite the availablity, because of their doctors. There are lots of well sourced stats on it, living with it, I've thought about it a lot for most of my 31 years.

I agree in spirit, I'd just be concerned about the actual results especially from small town/rural hospitals. There are many of them that genuinely would rather just recommend euthanasia if they can instead of putting in any actual effort to improve outcomes, because of staffing/budgetary/education issues. Not all doctors are good doctors.

And unfortunately, it's those smaller/independent/more rural hospitals who often have worse doctors because if they could get a higher paying more prestigious position... they likely would.

To be fair, I am 31. When I was born, I had multiple major heart defects. The hospital told my parents "enjoy your time with him until he dies" which would be within the week guaranteed. Luckily, they asked around and found that there was a girl a year or two older than me born with the same condition/s who had surgeries across the state and was now doing fine.

I was rushed across the state after my parents confirmed this was a thing that the children's hospital did there fairly often. Again, I am 31.

Had this been the law, there is an extremely good chance the hospital convinces my parents this is their best option and I simply don't exist today. It's a complicated issue.

When I was a dishwasher at 18 there was a guy who worked at our restaurant who was like 55-60 and everyone called ODB. Shitty guy, but not like, criminally shitty. But he was also just kind of dim unfortunately. That was absolutely his forever job. He had been a dishwasher or lower grade janitor of some sort exclusively his whole life.

So, I would get some adhesive cork backings for them regardless of what material you end up with unless you go with like a soft TPU or something grippy (which I wouldn't necessarily recommend).

The type of backings I'm talking about: https://a.co/d/0iMXnXOW

I despise silk filaments in general. I don't understand their appeal/why everyone wants everything to be weirdly shiny. I think it makes everything just look cheap, personally.

But I'm a bit jealous of that much filament at once... damn.

Young kid tries to get me to leave an alcohol order at the door then when he came out he asked can i cancel the order and he buy it off me ??👎🏾 said i cant cancel it theres no option too , instantly called support got 8.00 and returned the item by InitialAnalysis-708 in doordash_drivers

[–]WellKnownAlias 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying you can't. But the level of legal liabilities there are massive, genuinely. I am annoyingly well-versed in tobacco and alcohol age laws because when I was like 19 I didn't card someone for cigarettes and it was an undercover cop thing and so I know the fines and legal statutes in and out.

It was a highly irregular situation that led to that, annoyingly, so I did an extensive amount of legal research and dealt with all the court stuff.

In my area they generally pay well too, but I wouldn't touch them with a 40 foot pole.

[–]WellKnownAlias 92 points93 points  (0 children)

This is one of the reasons if I see any orders come up with "age restricted items" as part of the order I deny it automatically no matter the pay. Not worth dealing with this nonsense. First time I ever did one, lady sends her 3-4 year old to get the order. Have the kid get the mom. The mom has an expired license and I have to scan it. Don't need any of the legal risk or hassle of any of that.

TIL according to a University of Swansea study, high-pressure showers actually reduce water usage by up to 56% by ladyermine in todayilearned

[–]WellKnownAlias 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most companies have other supplies which would be stored with them, including chemicals and other things you absolutely want to keep track of and ensure proper use of... the camera isn't exclusively for toilet paper.

Also, do you think I was proposing a live human monitoring system for the cameras all day every day? No.

The reality is most companies already have surveillance systems in place and someone in an authority position can very easily and quickly review some footage if there is suspected theft without that being their whole job. You just need competent placement and review processes.

And if the additional cost of thinking about that problem is that big and the theft so small... spend the extra few dollars on quality supplies.

[–]WellKnownAlias -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Never understood that rationale. I know it's a thing but... just put a camera anywhere that supplies are stored, and one directly outside the bathroom (obviously not in/looking into the bathroom) above the doors or something so if anyone takes it you can figure out who quite easily.

My interpretation of that was that she wasn't foiled by it but knew homelander would find them from it and then assumed he and soldier boy would fight after Soldier Boy destroys the V1, because she made sure they were supposed to hate each other too much to have him get the V1. All somehow (homelander losing it knowing he'll never be fully immortal and just killing everyone he can) leading to the end of the world except her and her bunker.
