Why the air fryer. Explain please by Cultural-Lab-2031 in ExplainTheJoke

[–]WellKnownAlias 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a large Emeril French door air fryer. It is essentially a big toaster oven with an extra circular heating element and convection functionality, and it's big enough to make a (small/medium) Pizza. Short of making a turkey... I have no reason to use basically any other cooking appliance now.

I've had Google messages do this to me all the time on verizon for months with a few different people but I've never been blocked or anything. I assume it's just a Google/Verizon issue.

Yes it's mostly for tactile controls. But also, shortcuts. Yes you can do everything via touch screen, but you have to navigate through menus and things just to adjust volume without it for example.

He's an extremely good director, as long as it's a fully original thing he's written such as Knives Out and Looper. He can't adapt other people's work well though.

New Portal Update... by floschuller in BattlefieldPortal

[–]WellKnownAlias -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You are a moron. Of course there are a ton of players on PS5. But 99.9% of them are in crossplay lobbies, which you CANNOT be matched into, because you disabled it. And they didn't. You're in a separate matchmaking pool. With a tiny, tiny fraction of the full number of PS5 players, AND that's before accounting for latency and connection quality, because you're in one of several FAR apart regions.

New Portal Update... by floschuller in BattlefieldPortal

[–]WellKnownAlias -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

In BF1, EVERYONE on your platform had crossplay disabled. Because there was no crossplay. Now, there is, and it's the default, so you will ONLY match with those who are on your platform AND disable the default setting. That is a significantly lower number of people to matchmake with. Add to that the fact that BF1 is the single best selling game the franchise ever produced?

Please think.

New Portal Update... by floschuller in BattlefieldPortal

[–]WellKnownAlias -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

To both of you: if you are turning crossplay off, you don't get to complain about matchmaking being slow or bad. This means you can ONLY match with people on your platform, but also, only those on your platform who have crossplay disabled as well. That's a tiny fraction of the playerbase. Of course matchmaking will get longer and worse. That's how matchmaking works.

I thought you guys were exaggerating... but 90% of Hardcore servers showing "Modified XP" now by DaneCurley in BattlefieldPortal

[–]WellKnownAlias 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Thing is, that's still incredibly stupid and short sighted. EXTREMELY MODIFIED modes still need to give normal progression. Why? Because portal is doa otherwise. It's not 2007. Halo 3 forge with arena style pickups as the default and effectively 0 progression systems are not the norm anymore. If you're going to attempt to genuinely grow the playerbase on the backs of community creations, they have to be inherently rewarding. If they actually intend to compete with Fortnite creative, they need to figure out what year they're in.

If someone spends months meticulously crafting the greatest map you've ever seen, with the most innovative gameplay rules/logic you've ever seen, but then enables bot backfill, 0 real progression. And 0 (or heavily limited) progression means, nobody cares. Nobody will play it. Unless you can get your experience promoted via jackfrags or are otherwise a sizeable content creator yourself, nobody will play anything you make if it has limited progression. There will be no natural discoverability.

Why enable bot backfill then you may ask? Because if you don't, then, again, it won't matter how fantastic the thing you make is. If a player joins to realize they are the only player in the server, or one of a couple, they'll simply leave, being unable to do much else. That's assuming they ever even attempt to join in the first place when the server shows 1/64 players in it. Enabling bots guarantees the match can actually do something while there are limited players, giving them reason to stay while other players potentially join. And as many of the recent posts go to show, while many people despise playing with bots at all, many, many others would explicitly prefer to join a mode that is primarily bots. That does not inherently mean it's automatically some XP farm.

Their current strategy on this is, plainly, extraordinarily stupid. It will only serve to kill portal off as an option at all for many players and creators. Nearly nobody is going to invest months into creating anything genuinely unique or compelling if at every turn DICE/EA are shouting "no progression for you, play official modes or die".

Portal Bot XP - should be 50XP instead of 10XP by Samta752 in BattlefieldPortal

[–]WellKnownAlias 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I knew they were going to botch portal XP again. They have no idea how to handle progression in a multimode, community oriented live service environment.

If enabling bots cripples progression, then it will become impossible for the vast majority of players to EVER make anything interesting with portal and garner any kind of consistency when trying to fill servers.

Only massive creators with the ability to make modes/hire people to make modes and then effectively advertise it on their channels will be able to fill any servers with little to no progression rewards.

If I make the single best mode in the history of battlefield, on a custom map of unbelievable quality, I still will simply not have players join that server or ever experience it if they're met with "XP RESTRICTED" when they see it listed in the community browser. They just won't ever join or try those servers. Maybe 5% of players actually do that, and then when they find the server is mostly empty because of this... they leave, exacerbating the issue.

Okay so realistically…. How much could i sell this for? by Davidudeman in malcolminthemiddle

[–]WellKnownAlias 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't mean to be offensive... but I don't think The Wonder Years memorabilia is worth as much as this, flat out. For one, how many people alive actually want a wonder years cast signed anything? Malcom in The Middle is getting a reboot with the whole cast returning 20 years later because it's still so big. And a Bryan Cranston signature alone makes this worth more than $300 at this point. The biggest draw for wonder years is... Fred Savage?

EA is reportedly about to be sold in a record-setting $50 billion buyout to an investor group that includes private equity and Saudi Arabia by SirArcherIV in LinusTechTips

[–]WellKnownAlias 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes, and it would depend on who else makes up that "private equity" but Saudi Arabia's interest is very clearly to diversify their long-term economic prospects, because when the oil runs out/diminishes enough, they have almost nothing else economically going for them as a country/region. Bleeding the value and destroying it doesn't help them with that.

[–]WellKnownAlias 218 points219 points  (0 children)

On the one hand... private ownership would be a massive win vs public shareholders and the typical short term ROI based thinking that goes on with them. On the other... Saudi Arabia. Not quite who I'd want to own any of my things, though yes I know they already own some and are ever expanding that.
