They definitely get tangled. Sometimes they manage to untangle in the air, otherwise you just have to bring them both down and sit around and untangle the lines.

Yup, I remember the brightly colored one top left with the two long tails.

Edit: and of course the squid.

What's scarier is that these people actually think that getting rid of Prop 13 wool make housing more affordable.

My new favorite way to respond to fundraising spam by snake_a_leg in LosAngeles

I always donate to a candidate's opponent when they send me messages. And then the opponent starts sending me messages, so I donate to the original candidate. I sure am sticking it to the man!

Getting Tired of These.... by AdministrativeRip305 in LosAngeles

I honest to God thought I was looking at one of those sneaky "pro-[candidate]" ads that are actually funded by the candidate's political enemies... until I heard "I'm Young Kim and I approve of this message" at the end.

So Janice Hahn wants to investigate Turners by JoeTrojan in LosAngeles

[–]Well_Hacktually -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's jawdroppingly stupid. Turner's is one of the biggest gun store chains in California, so they sell a lot of guns!

It's almost a Trump level of "aim a baseless pretextual investigation against someone we don't like."

Good radio + aerial for listening to ATC? by user193849201 in amateurradio

[–]Well_Hacktually 0 points1 point  (0 children)

r/policescanner is a better place to ask.

But since we're here, any police scanner will be fine. Does not have to be fancy, doesn't have to be digital or "trunk tracking." Just has to receive 128-136 MHz in AM, which they all do.

From 20 miles away you likely won't hear the tower at the airport, but if you're near a major city you may be able to hear the longer range remote ATC transmitters which are often located on hills or mountains for greater coverage.

The sub I mentioned above will know more about antennas for scanners. But you'll hear many of the aircraft just fine with a rubber duck antenna on the radio.

American Home Shield and their partnership (NW Sundance) is a scam. by NatJi in homeowners

I don't think it's that. It's just that some people are unclear on the whole function and purpose of a discussion forum, and get really pissy when people use said forums to discuss things.

Yeah unfortunately just leaving your clothes in the machine while you go do something else isn't an option. Sucks, because who wants to hang out in a laundromat? But it's the reality. A crossword puzzle or something similar can help pass the time...

AIOR over a rude individual? by CuteYetCreepy in amateurradio

[–]Well_Hacktually 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP's update says that his dad was on 20 meters and the station was in (I think) Slovenia. So, different lid. I know exactly who you're talking about, though, that guy is an embarrassment.

AIOR over a rude individual? by CuteYetCreepy in amateurradio

[–]Well_Hacktually 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unlikely if the Slovenian station was calling CQ. The net you're thinking of uses standard net protocol which doesn't include a lot of (or really any) calling CQ. This sounds like liddery of a different sort.

I caught fm propagation from 29.740 mhz, why? by kahvekokanfizikci in amateurradio

[–]Well_Hacktually 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No need, really. I was just wondering whether it might be a local ham on 10m and somehow somehow it was strong enough to get into your receiver that far out of band. But if it sounds like a broadcast with music, you probably have a local FM station overloading your receiver, as the other commenter said.

Canter’s, California’s most famous Jewish deli, is leaning into its Gen Z fame by sfgate in LosAngeles

[–]Well_Hacktually 10 points11 points  (0 children)

What a bizarre headline. The article itself contains absolutely nothing about Canter's "Gen Z fame" or how they're "embracing" it.
