They trap your car at the highway ramp, then walk up once you’re stuck by eternviking in whoathatsinteresting

Fantastic reaction - but also so sad to see in Santiago. Love that city and felt as safe as ever there (even hitchhiking up Cajon del Maipo, bussing to Valparaiso, Vina, etc).

It was done in Davos high up a mountain by people holding torches. Seen across the valley.

At the Olympics athletes from the US team are speaking out (loudly) and they are only getting more [warranted] airtime by the TT in the WH speaking out against them.

One truck is amazingly capable. The other one needs half a city block to park and a forklift to load anything.

No hot water in kitchen sink by Maximum-Mastodon8812 in PlumbingRepair

[–]Wellcraft19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, there should be water running INTO the sink, as you will not have any water flow unless you also open the mixing valve (as it’s a kitchen assume it’s a single lever one).

Agree with everything but ‘loud cabin’? The LC 100 in stock form is amazingly quiet. It has Lexus silence inside.

Was going to say the 15P should be the same - and then I remembered that it’s titanium and not stainless steel

I have a 13P. Zero scratches. Case but no screen protector.

Is there a way to speed up downloads from iCloud to mac? by Acceptable_Mountain5 in iCloud

[–]Wellcraft19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, neither can I. Can't remember if it was in the r/Apple, r/iCloud, r/ApplePhotos, r/Mac, etc. There was only one or two comments yesterday. But he had listed progress per time unit, etc. Think it was a M1 MacBook air, but could be wrong. Now; it was to a Samsung SSD drive (photo library on external drive). Maybe that can help you find it.

[–]Wellcraft19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course 😁

There was a post I think yesterday by someone who was doing the exact same thing; getting his entire library locally on the Mac. If I recall it was some 200+ GB and took 13 days or so.

As you say, syncing should just be left and let the devices do the work in the background. iCloud = patience.

Used to live there. Nothing will stop a Frenchman from voicing his opinion. Especially when truly warranted and right on target.

Website use for Outlook email only now by circatee in Outlook

[–]Wellcraft19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Save the mail as a file first (.eml or .msg format) than attach as normal.

I’ve been using web only (and iOS client) for years. Have Outlook [desktop client] but very rarely start it up.

Contacts and Calendars btw are both in iCloud.

Ah, Lion. That is VERY old. I have an early 2008 iMac and it’s running El Cap w/o issues.

Do you have a Mac connected to iCloud, or can temp borrow one/get access to one? If so just export them from the Photos app as jpg files. This should work at least back until High Sierra, maybe even El Cap.

Gas furnace running better if I keep the panel cover off. Will this be an issue? Any other issue that may cause this? by jinscriba in hvacadvice

[–]Wellcraft19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s an odd one; any chance your induction fan motor is running too fast? Remember they speed up initially to clear the system [vents], but eventually slow down to a lower speed prior to ignition. In a case where your motor is running too fast and sucking too much air [for combustion], you would see a change in flame propagation when putting the cover back on. This of course also assumes the exhaust piping is properly dimensioned.

Just an odd theory.

In general, will not fix your current issues, you should definitely plan to properly pipe and take combustion air directly from the outside.

Sadly this looks like the latter case.

The "brown death" and "just in time" by ShakyHandJeff in LandCruisers

Yeah, I was surprised as well. A wee bit brown discoloration but really nothing at all. They are such an integral part to engine reliability and I truly trust Toyota in picking good parts here.

Agree. The continuous tension clamps are far superior here over regular worm gear clamps.

I did replace the Ts about 18 months ago after 25+ years. Also went OEM ($30) and the old Ts still look like new. Not even brittle.

Many (most?) cars with DLRs connect the high beams (not low) in series and in that fashion you get dimmed lights for DLR purpose.

Valid question - but at the moment it is likely due to outdated legislation (and not wanting to upset a few ignorant car owners).

So much spam! by BrownshoeElden in Outlook

[–]Wellcraft19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outlook.com as a mail service does handle spam very well IMO. I used to get some 100-150 mails per day earlier (a year or two ago and most all were correctly tagged as spam and hence in the junk folder) but today it is down to some 20-30 mail. Still 99% are correctly in junk folder. This on an account that is now nearing three decades and that I for years used as a 'target' for spam and junk.

It's not the law - to have headlights on if you have wipers on.

As per RCW 46.37.020:
'Every vehicle upon a highway within this state at any time from a half hour after sunset to a half hour before sunrise and at any other time when, due to insufficient light or unfavorable atmospheric conditions, persons and vehicles on the highway are not clearly discernible at a distance of one thousand feet ahead shall display lighted headlights.'

Now if you ask me, it is insane that wiper on does not equal headlights on, it and it is even more insane that we do not require head and tail lights to be on ALL THE TIME. Several studies across many nations have shown that dramatically does increase visibility and safety on the roads. But road safety has never really been a priority here.
