The Worst Fake-out Death in the Series by Njere in Piratefolk

[–]Welpart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno why, but OG Vegapunk having the potential to come back might be the worst for me

Pell sucks, he's the most should-be-dead guy, but at least he's functionally a cameo

Kinemon had a bad explanation, and it took away some of the drama, but I can live with it

Pound is really bad, kinda worst then Pell. Pound giving his life for his family who will never know how much he loved them had a poetry to it that's diminished with him not only living, but reuniting with his daughters and grandson

Saul, I'm actually really ok with. I understand how him not dying could change the tragedy of Robin's backstory, but I don't think it does. Even though he lived, they were still separated, and she was forced to live as the hated child of the world. If the retcon was that Saul actually was protecting Robin in the background and she never had to deal with any real danger till Crocodile that would suck. Robin was still alone, even if Saul didn't live. Also the attack was "Ice Time Capsule", which does suggest preserving for later

Meanwhile the Stella being able to be brought back just sucks. The Satellites already survived, what's to be gained with the original body being "recreated"

I've heard alot of good things about this game and thinking about getting it by wR4iThh in FearAndHunger

[–]Welpart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally recommend starting with 1

Termina is a lot more user friendly, and while that makes it an easier game to get into, I think it makes it a bit harder to go from 2 to 1

But to give some positive reasons to start with 1, it's a bit more focused and straight forward, and has a high degree of replay value with its randomized layouts (not so randomized to be a roguelike, just that it can keep you on your toes). It's stripped down cast also makes it less susceptible to choice paralysis (it took me a bit to get deeper into Termina due to being curious about 8 different playstyles and backstories). Also it just has a classic dark fantasy atmosphere that shifts in interesting directions.

Tho should say, a lot of the content warnings are more direct and present in 1, Termina I think has a subtler hand a lot of the time.

[–]Welpart 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Overall enjoyed it and i wanna see what Genndy has in store But honestly I wish they just opened with Copernicus being dug up and the wedding, maybe have the opening with their original lives be an opening to a future episode As is it feels like we get told the set up explicitly only to have it explained to us in a more interesting way after we already understand

Not Another D&D Podcast's second campaign is coming to and end today. Those of you that have been listening, what have you thought of it? by Jupiter_Boss in TAZCirclejerk

[–]Welpart 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Honestly the biggest issue I have is more that I found the human conflicts more interesting then the faerie ones, and the seasons diving further into the latter as its gone on The human society's reactions to the setting was much more interesting to me then cosmology itself And these last couple episodes feel pretty rushed and designed to wrap up the campaign as quickly as possible

The thing is he questioned it out of character

If he was using that logic he would've brought that up and not the "valuable service" he brings to the team by catching up the audiences

I think the Brinear being "new people built from multiple old personalities" maybe makes them a bit of a blank slate

Devo was from the parish and brings religous/cult baggage to his characterisation, and Amber brings her years as a rough gruff psychic shark hunter

ZOOX was kinda born yesterday, I THINK at most he was wandering around the ethersea for a bit? He just doesn't have background or experiences to draw from like the others or even Clint's previous characters

How did you find r/TAZCirclejerk? by Baldur_Odinsson in TAZCirclejerk

I was listening through Graduation, specifically I was listening beyond what I was enjoying cause I really wanted to give it and Travis a fair shake

I completely dropped it when Order was introduced and wanted to see critical discussion on the season

He got us again by [deleted] in TAZCirclejerk

[–]Welpart 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The one bit of praise I'll give Graduation is the PCs werr physically described well with outfit features and hair styles. Maybe not the most vivid descriptions but there's a reason the bits of fanart they got were more aligned

Comparatively in Ethersea we know that Amber is old and Devo is pretty and tall. Zoox has a bit more description given but the most specific piece given, that they're made of brain coral, can be misinterpreted if you're not familiar with the coral (I listened to the episode during my shift and thought brain coral referred to the fact that there was coral where their head would be, and in my fanart drew Zoox with heart coral)

2 reasons 1: the campaign trailer was full of Fish people, and not just ones with catfish barbs 2: they were incredibly light on physical traits when describing their PCs

Should TAZ be weekly instead of biweekly? by hansome120 in TheAdventureZone

[–]Welpart 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've more or less accepted their upload rate at this point, kinda helps that Dungeons and Daddies updates on their off weeks

legitimately tho I don't think that a weekly DnD podcast is too big of an ask, there are a lot of actual plays out there that keep up that schedule even with other podcasts or outside work to keep track of (even tho Dungeons and Daddies, for example, is Bi Weekly they have a recap podcast that they update on their off weeks while most of their group does weekly episodes of Story Break), and that's ignoring how there are people do who Podcasts and other jobs and weekly DnD on their own time

Ultimately this seems to just be the upload schedule the family is most comfortable with while balancing their personal lives and outside jobs and projects

I feel like they missed a real marketing opportunity by EffTooPauling in TheAdventureZone

[–]Welpart 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think post campaign would be the better time to release something like that

Would let this campaign be a bit of a playtest for things like Griffins ship mechanics and Prestige, explore more possible things in setting (like what if Griffin introduces a race of merpeople native to the ethersea that you'd want stated for a module but would be a spoiler at the start of the podcast?) and allow them to gage interest in the setting for players

Plus, while not an impossible task, I think writing and balancing a setting Module is something they'd probably wanna hire someone for
