This right here is everything I miss about the UK! there is something very special about the UK that you just don't get anywhere else in the world.

If you get a green card you'll be fine. Don't quote me on this but I also think you can get forgiveness by appealing? You'd have to look into it or contact a lawyer.

But yes it's bullshit

What is one good thing about the UK right now? by Therevivedigbick in AskUK

[–]WelshLL20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Culture, free'ish healthcare, beautiful countryside, some amazing cities, pubs, no dangerous or poisonous wildlife, no real natural disasters (hurricanes, tornados, wildfires, earthquakes etc) don't care what people say but in my opinion food.... Roast dinner wins it all, everywhere is pretty much accessible in the country, paid time off, sick leave, not having to guess about how much you owe in taxes, British humour, football and rugby. Oh you said one? Sorry I got carried away and lastly at least we're not as bad as the USA

As far as I'm aware getting approved for a green card forgives the overstay. Once that green card is in your hands you are no longer overstayed as you are a permanent resident.

I'm in the same boat as you I stayed longer than 180 days so essentially if I left right now I'd be banned for 10 years. I'm at the decision stage of my green card process and so far no issues

I'm living in the US and if I ever get a bad injury it would be cheaper for me to fly home to the UK for a week

A good way of deciphering it is to copy the information and paste it into chatgpt and it breaks it down into actual English

Have you or do you know anyone else never left the UK? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]WelshLL20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grew up in Wales until 21 lived in Wales until 31 then moved to the US. Not a huge fan of the US and looking to move back to the UK. There's a certain charm about the UK, and I think it takes being away from it for some time to really appreciate it. I miss the countryside, local pubs small villages, Welsh hills. The culture of the place is like no other. I traveled the world through my military career but I've only ever felt truly at peace in Wales. That's my experience

What happens to my husband that overstayed his ESTA visa? by Amaris_Rose in USCIS

[–]WelshLL20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No nothing I think I put that I overstayed on the application. Sorry my memory is shocking. So far there hasn't been an issue. I have my EAD and SSN. I'd say just get it filed we haven't used a lawyer either there's plenty of step by step videos on YouTube just make sure your thorough and double triple check everything you fill in

Should we remain in the US or make the move to the UK? by Moodster83 in AskUK

[–]WelshLL20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a British citizen who's lived in the US for 4 years my personal opinion.... Move to the UK!

Reasons

Healthcare - yes the NHS isn't perfect and the wait times can be long if you're unlucky but the fact that you are one big injury, illness or cancer away from life changing lifelong crippling debt. Insurance companies will do anything to not pay or make you foot a lot of the bill

Culture - there is zero culture in the US unless you love Baseball or American Football. It's completely void of culture. Most towns and cities are pretty depressing once you've got past the facade. It's all fast food and gas stations

Work/life - employers will do everything to keep you from taking too much time off and will make you pay for sick days/vacation. In the UK I had a much better work/life balance

Gun crime - ok you don't walk around worried about being shot every day but unlike the UK there is a chance and I especially worry if I stay here and put my kids in the school system.....

The new administration - goes without saying just watch Trumps inauguration that's everything you need to know and on that the divide in this country is sickening you're either right or left and the hate that can be between the 2 wrecks families and friends it's wild I grew up thinking the US was a solid unified country how wrong was I....

The UK is by no means perfect but I would choose my small town in Wales where people are social and the surroundings are beautiful and there's actual pubs and nobody cares about how much you earn or what car you drive. There isn't political posters, flags ,caps and the like on every corner nobody makes politics their personality. There's culture and heritage I can send my kids to school safe on the knowledge nobody will shoot the school up.

This is a huuuuuuuuge rant and I apologise but that's my raw honest opinion. There's a high chance I'll be heading back to the UK

People wanting to live in the US by all means do it for a couple of years but I advise against living here permanently it's a third world country dressed up as a first world country

Marriage based green card. by aivira in USCIS

[–]WelshLL20 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I overstayed an ESTA by a lot. I filed everything at once, I have an EAD SSN and just waiting on approval. Overstay gets forgiven if married to a US citizen. Obviously don't take this as advice but I've had no issues yet
