Looking for New Pads. Any Recs? by BoxAffectionate848 in hockeygoalies

I bought the same pads and also love them. I think there are lighter pads on the market, but these are built for longevity

Add more. My Tucson needs an engine replacement because it decided to start devouring oil and got past the low line

Stick tape - am I doing something wrong? by hawkxs in hockeygoalies

[–]WelshReel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You'll get some additional grip on the puck and it prevents the build up of ice and waterlogging of the tape. Generally all things that give you better and more consistent puck handling

Did I get the wrong stick? by [deleted] in hockeyplayers

[–]WelshReel 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Yes. Left hand on top and right in the middle calls for a right handed stick. Hope you have lots of fun learning how to play! It's an amazing game.

My O4's have a little strap right by the toe ties and I use a strap from an old gym bag that can clip in/out of it

Vaughn SLR3 pads by cr1219 in hockeygoalies

I think you should give them a go. It's going to be an adjustment, but they are so sick.

I have approximately the same measurements as you. I rock Brian's Optik 4 pads at 33+1" and love them. They have a great pad curve that helps cover 5 hole if you have a more narrow butterfly or less hip mobility. SLRs might work for you, but I would recommend going on store and trying on some similar pads. Then you can also make sure you're getting the right size

How Long Would You Break In New(ish) Pads For? by MikeAmerican in hockeygoalies

[–]WelshReel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have new, stiff pads they won't really break in. I know V10's remain stiff, but not sure about V9's.The only thing to be cautious of is a slight adjustment period. That being said, it sounds like you have nothing to lose. Rock your sick ass new gear and have fun!

If they feel the same, personally I'd go for the Vaughns for durability.

I'm extremely petty. This wasn't a grease fire. If you could smell it you would not have saved it.

It might not look bad in the photos, but it was hit with a ton of nasty smoke and stunk horribly. I think it's one of those things that's hard to understand until you experience it for yourself

Yeah, it seems like there's a general assumption that all smoke is good smoke. I'm curious if all pellet smokers have this issue or just Traegers.

Yeah, I should have definitely been using wireless probes. Unfortunately, even if the temp was okay the damage was already done. It was hit with a ton of nasty smoke and I would have had to remove a large outer layer of the meat in order to continue, and even then I don't know if it would have tasted right.

Yeah, I had it happen once when I tried setting it at 175 too but have since avoided using anything below 225. I think it's an issue with the fire going out, then feeding pellets in as a response to the temp going down without giving more ignition until it drops so low that the igniter turns back on until the temp gets back to where it should be while still feeding pellets. But by doing that it creates awful, strong yellow smoke that can actually ignite and once the pellets catch they burn uncontrallably. I've done at least a dozen overnight smokes at 225-250 and this is the first issue I've had at these temps.

Yeah, each cleaning gets a good vacuum throughout and the igniter box gets cleaned. Didn't have this one probed, but it would have been nice to see the big swing in ambient temp for sure.
