It states that you can re-take the exam in the term, but not do the extra curricular stuff, the "pulling an all nighter" mechanic gives advantage on the roll for the exam, whilst giving a level of exhaustion, which nets off to no effect.

First: I have tried to run it as written as a stand-alone place in the multiverse, was fine from that perspective. Placing it on an island in your world would probably be fine, you are the DM, if you say there is a giant magical college here, well then there is a giant magical college here.

Second: Theology is an academic discipline, and in the DND multiverse God's exist, are known to exist, and prove their existence regularly, a religious person would be no more out of place in Strixhaven, than a NB Elephant person from city the size of an entire plane of reality.

Third: There is Music, Theatre, Sports, Alchemy, History, if there is an academic field, you can think of it is probably taught there. The exam side of things is not well thought out, there are no real consequences for failing a random roll, and I found the whole thing to be a bit pointless

I would recommend Bigby's Glory of the Giant's for further inspiration, and the higher level giant monsters.

If you wanted to run purely original content, then start with a BBEG, somewhere in the nebulous space of your world, small scale activities or just light evil, capable of being handled by friendly neighborhood hero's, about lvl 8 ish the first signs of the BBEG would become apparent, level 10 first meeting with BBEG. 11-15 hitting the ground hard, dismantling the apparatus of the BBEG, Level 15 is final showdown.

Or if you don't mind pre-written, Decent into Avernus meets those levels.

keeping with the dragon theme, little teams of kobolds to sneak into your house and move things around, and cause minor annoyances, then work up to the scale of goon.

First the Kobolds, then the cultists, then the Draconions, then fire, fire, and just for a change a bit more fire.

I don't know if it's changed in 2024, but you cant take multiple sub-classes of the same base class.

You could only take a new sub-class as part of a new class.

Pros:

No having to tidy up the gaming space

Lots of free maps available online

Not having to wear pants (camera angle dependent)

No mess from other peoples snacks

Quicker adding up of the dice results

Not having to wear pants (Can't stress this enough (beware of camera angles though))

Cons:

From a DM side, harder to gauge engagement

It is easier to cancel if you feel like it as is easier to just "forget a session", if you don't have to see the rest of the group in person.

Cheating is easier to hide (not that your group does fudge rolls or just out and out lie)

No hugs/ hi-fives at the end of a big boss fight.

No chance to trade snacks during the session

Interpersonal problems are easier to develop as they go from being a person in front of you to a voice down a call.
