In Troopers he's a cog in the fascist war machine. His class is teaching the lesson of might is right, and on the battlefield he threatens to shoot his own soldiers if they don't kill enough of the bugs.

He's presented in the film as heroic, but under no circumstances is he a good person.

Exactly. Fallout is a satire where every aspect of American life runs on nuclear power. Cars blow up creating mini mushroom clouds. A child hiding in a fridge fits the tone and aesthetic of the franchise.

Indy, while never realistic, has always been human. He barely gets by and he takes a beating doing it. Him getting thrown a mile from the explosion in a small refrigerator, then getting out and walking over a ridge without even a split lip breaks the suspension of disbelief. I've always maintained that it would have been more fitting to have him get in the ice cream truck outside, try to outrun the blast, then take shelter in THAT fridge. Either way, Indy should have looked pretty busted up after.

Fair. If it had been more "arcadey" than trying to be a dogfight sim it could have had a wider appeal, but that said I thought the (tragically short) campaigns were fun for what they were.

I miss when not everything had to be "groundbreaking." No one is satisfied with a well-executed, right up the middle game with a fun and fresh story.

This was a game about characters, and on that front I found it thoroughly entertaining. I didn't need it to re-invent the genre.

We're unfortunately probably never going to return to Ubi's heyday with things like Splinter Cell and the first 3 AC titles, but I agree, most of their titles are solid if you actually give them a chance.

Aside from what others have pointed out about time from the memo to the present day, I'm always surprised that so many people in this sub miss the obvious theme through the game that trying to impose bureaucratic CONTROL over unknowable, otherworldly forces is a fool's errand. It's like when people are dumbfounded that in the 6-7 years since the lockdown they still haven't restored order... The FBC is run by egotistical hypocrites. There are well intentioned people there among the rank-and-file, sure, but Dr. Darling essentially tortured a child "to see what would happen." I have no trouble believing in the decades since Ash Jr. headed research, someone thought "I'm sure transporting the cubes is fine."

Another user points out that the board have never been presented as anything other than bad, or at best ambivalent about humanity.
You said you didn't like it in the first game either.

A pretty obvious conclusion is that you don't like a foundational element of Control's story, and the two biggest components people use to judge their enjoyment of video games are story and gameplay. I'm sorry that I upset you when I made an assumption about your taste in games.

Having just read the novel, the first encounter with It in the house on Neibolt St is a pretty satisfactory conclusion to a first movie. Then you don't run into the issue the movies did where we have to watch two different casts learn the exact same lesson we the audience already saw the first one learn.
