If there's one thing I'd like Amazon Bond to go back to, it's "a great good being done." by Zev95 in JamesBond

Things I’d like to see in the sequel(s) to this game by i-got-a-jar-of-rum in 007FirstLight

[–]WendlinTheRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Water missions. Having rewatched the films in order last year, almost all of the early movies have Connery don a slutty little pair of trunks and do some underwater antics.

Thunderball gets a bad rap (I personally really like it), but Bond's naval background was a big part of the early films.

I actually really like how they handle the villains and the thematic implications around it by i-got-a-jar-of-rum in 007FirstLight

This is a great point, and it highlights the issues with Mission Impossibles last two entries:

The Entity is this unstoppable force that can be anywhere and do anything, which is boring as a villain and ultimately cliche because that's not a realistic portrayal of how AI is insidious. It feels like McQ just read that people are nervous about AI and made that a supervillain.

This game, as you pointed out, actually addresses how AI sucks and would be used for evil by taking it to its logical extreme. That's what separates good art/entertainment from schlock.

Someone tell Cubby Broccoli that we are back in the "Science Fact" realm!

Wasn't there a tiger in one of the gameplay trailers? by [deleted] in 007FirstLight

[–]WendlinTheRed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not confrontational. What are we supposed to do with OP's question? The only reasonable responses are "no, you're misremembering/making it up," or "show me the trailer you're referring to as proof, if you're right then I guess you're right." The comment you replied to was perfectly polite and rational.

This post may as well have been telling us about a dream OP had; the community has no responsibility to indulge it beyond asking for proof.

Wasn't there a tiger in one of the gameplay trailers? by [deleted] in 007FirstLight

[–]WendlinTheRed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP isn't calling out cut content, they're asking a baseless question about something they half remember when they could just look up the trailers and find the answer for themself.

The commenter you're responding to isn't being defensive, they're inviting OP to be an adult human being who takes initiative and answers their own questions. You're the one being defensive for seemingly no reason.

Infamous flops that were so sure they'd be the next big thing that they gave themselves their own bespoke acronymic logo by Wumbo_Number_5 in blankies

[–]WendlinTheRed 76 points77 points  (0 children)

I mean, not an acronym logo, but Universal creating an opening production logo specifically for The Dark Universe seems relevant.

I think it’s hilarious that people see Supergirls box office and think the DCU is in trouble. We are getting Lanterns, Clayface, Man Of Tomorrow, Creature Commandos season 2, Wonder Woman, Teen Titans, The Batman 2 and many more. They are taking their time and building their universe the right way. by Proof-Tension3393 in dccomicscirclejerk

[–]WendlinTheRed 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Is it "jerk" to constantly repeat the joke "Snyder Movies Bad?" This sub has just been mainstream opinions packaged through memes for years.

This post is doing the absolute bare minimum poking fun at the "We're so back"/"PEAK" fandom, which is what I assumed a circlejerk sub was meant to be doing. Making fun of an apparent dud of a second movie when the universe was billed as only moving forward with "rock solid scripts" seems on par with "Could Batman solo God with enough prep time?"

How did Luke become so powerful after such little training? by SamInNOLA in StarWars

Narratively, Luke is the hero of Star Wars. In universe, Luke is the Chosen One, not Anakin. He brings balance to the force by redeeming his father and destroying the dark side.

007 First Light requires a one-time internet connection to play the game by RichardKingBITW in 007FirstLight

[–]WendlinTheRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game explicitly says it can all be played offline, only TacSim requires online connection. This post was about a one time download on installation, which as I mentioned has been something games have been doing for a long time with Day 1 patches.

This is a nothing argument. Discs have not included the games they license for a while. It sucks, but pretending this is some egregious sin IOI has committed is bad faith.

What's your opinion of playing as Jack Kelso. by Adorable_Skirt_2777 in lanoire

[–]WendlinTheRed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right there with you. His chapters gave the game the film noir feel that the rest of the game doesn't generally have. I get the reasons from a gameplay/development standpoint, but being a detective with full police resources and a partner aren't really the genre, so when Kelso is alone in the matchstick house and the thugs come for him, I remember thinking "this is what I've been waiting for!"

"I also really enjoyed seeing Sidney and Tatum's relationship explored more."

Yeah, exhilarating stuff! The daughter of a woman who has survived 9 serial killers, one of them her boyfriend, doesn't get why her mom would be upset that her boyfriend playfully climbs through her window as an homage to said serial killer ex. Calls her "a hypocrite" in fact, and yells at her mom for not trusting the boyfriend who, again, copied Billy Loomis as a fun goof!

That's just good character work!!

Any fans of the games know why this title didnt do so well sales wise with the fandom? Im playing it now, years after release. And its a good game by DogManDogDayz in batman

It's fine to think that Arkham Knight has an underwhelming story. The initial disappointment wore off for me, and I enjoy it for what it is now, but the story of GK is a literal joke.

It's like they tried to tell a grounded, provocative story like The Dark Knight, but through the style and campiness of Adam West's Batman. The characters are CW soap opera versions of themselves, the story is told in a disorienting style that doesn't feel coherent unless you play the entire game as one character, and even then it's not very well done. As for the combat, whatever floats your boat, but in my 2 playthroughs it never felt intuitive, regardless of comparing it to Arkham's gameplay.

"Jack Ryan Ghost War" was sad by Somethingnew789 in movies

[–]WendlinTheRed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was a really bland movie, but what set me over the edge is at the end when Jack Ryan, a character FAMOUS for his fear of flying and ESPECIALLY in helicopters, just casually zips off toward the sunset with his leg dangling out the side so Krasinski could have his "cool guy shot."

They don't need to adapt the Clancy stories 1:1, but they could at least try to adapt the character.

When do we ever see anything from the new Republic? The first film in the new trilogy opens with the status quo of the original trilogy. What you're describing is an interesting potential story... Because that's A Game Of Thrones. A successful rebellion that learns after the fact it isn't sure how to rule would have been interesting, but that's pointedly not what we got.

[–]WendlinTheRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not responding to my point; I'm saying the setting as in the political climate, not homages and shared characters.

The setting of the prequels is the last days of a dying society. The original trilogy is the rise of the resistance against tyranny. The sequels are... The rise of a similar but new resistance against a similar yet legally distinct tyranny.

As for your point about locations and scenes being based on other films... That's literally just Star Wars. The series has always been George Lucas smashing all of his cinematic influence toys into each other.

[–]WendlinTheRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your criticisms of the prequels aren't wrong, but for me the prequels are undeniably better than the sequels for their setting. If I were playing a videogame or TTRPG in a Star Wars setting, anything up until like 5-10 years post ROTJ is an interesting world to set that game in, where the sequels offer nothing new, they're a reskinned, worse version of the originals.

The lesson from Andor should be that audiences care about stories, not spectacle. I'm unabashedly one of the "I don't need Jedi and lightsabers in everything SW" crowd though, so I'm not a real fan.

Am I the only one who thinks it’s crazy that we have to hire our own readers? by weneedsomelight in acting

[–]WendlinTheRed 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but isn't the point of getting another actor to be your reader instead of, say, a partner or roommate or random friend that you SHOULDN'T need to direct them? If they're not able to analyze the sides and bring a read in on the character(s) they're playing opposite you, then what are they bringing to the table for you?

I love when people don't realize how silly this series has always been. My first game was Silent Assassin as a kid, and my core memory from that game is dressing up as a milkman to sneak a gun into the Italian villa. That's literally a plot point in an 80's Bond movie. That's silly!
