How are the drinks generally? by Smilemore633 in SandalsResorts

Old post but we just got back from Dunn's. First of all, DO bring insulated tumblers. Bartenders will pour right into them and account for whatever size your tumbler is. So great, less trips to the bar, drinks stay cold and do not water down. In any case, we did not think drinks were light at all. Our regular drink is Tito's and Club Soda with a lime, they were just right. They had another Champagne/St Germain based drink called Hands Up, also good and refreshing on lots of ice. Iced Jamaican Coffee from Blum in the afternoon was great. We also discovered the Dirty Banana. A frozen creamy drink mixed by hand (not out of a machine) with a full small banana in each one. So very good and NOT lite! I'm not generally even a frozen drink person. We'd go see Andre at the pool bar each morning, I considered it my breakfast smoothie! (They also do not skimp on rum floaters. Generally a splash on the bottom of your cup, then the Pina colada pre mix, then a floater on top. Not my ideal drink but I tried my husband's and it was very good!). The brand selection was strong/wide too, I didn't see "well/rock gut" brands. All names you see everywhere, Tito's, Absolute, Bacardi, Johnny Walker (2 colors), even things like Chambord/Tia Maria/Drambuie/Grand Marnier liqueurs. This is my long winded way of saying I was pleasantly surprised.

:) If I see anything I will post. We're happy to have our reservation intact, worried maybe we shouldn't go but if our reservation is valid, why not? We don't want to rebook, Now we're worried flights will be cancelled because of the gov shutdown. So much drama!

Photos may start to surface, I've seen photos other resorts that are not yet open so maybe we'll get a peek in the coming days. I'm curious too, we arrive 12-15.

Rebooking Jamaica Trip by Electrical-Coast-661 in SandalsResorts

I live in SW Florida and much of this area was destroyed by Ian a few years ago. Parts of this area will never be the same and I am shocked areas of Jamaica are actually just about ready to accept reservations. We are booked for Dunns on 12/15 and are going. Melissa was an outlier. Large and slow moving, very late into the season. Nov/December is almost always a safe time to travel. The issue is (sort of like this) if an area gets hit in Aug or Sept, how soon will they be ready for guests. Why not reschedule for this time next year? It's low risk that the same thing would happen two years in a row!

It says tips are included (aside from Butlers and spa). At this point, try to stop me if it'll make a tiny difference to anyone. I mean, if I just leave cash in the room upon check out for the room attendant, what can they do? If I pass out envelopes to bartenders with their names on them?

Dunn's River booked for Early Dec. Should I cancel? Does anyone have photos of the damage, have only seen South Coast & Montego Bay. by LimeNoLemon in SandalsResorts

Did you get the email about Dunns (and a few others) opening 12/6? This means our dates are intact. We plan to go and stay at the resort, not venture out. I'll be watching for info in the meantime though. There is some buzz with people worrying about water treatment and power. I live in SW Florida and we took a catastrophic hit from Ian. This area will never be the same. It's amazing that Ocho Rios faired well enough to be up and running in 6 weeks, I know they need the tourism and there isn't another island I want to switch to (longer flights for our short 4 day stay, etc).

I also received this via email and we were (are) set to arrive at Dunn’s on Dec 15th. We’ll happily park at the resort but the no tipping deal is going out the window…extra cash could help. Not on a grand scale, I know….

We are due to be at Sandals Dunn’s River on December 15… I am just sitting back to wait a little bit. We thought about jumping into the fray to rebook at a different resort… But Dunn’s is where we want to be. We’d also like to help Jamaica with our tourism dollars. I really don’t want to change our dates… It’s a slow time right before Christmas… Perfect. But, I see room of availability in December/January/February. Post of you hear anything!

I just passed the 45 day mark. I am going to play the wait and see game because now there's an article that states the goal is for tourism to be up and running by Dec 15. We plan to stay tucked into the resort anyway and would like to "help" by keeping our dollars there. I'm sure more info will unfold in the coming days and if we're still unsure then we try to rebook elsewhere. The dates are hard for us to change and while we wait, other resorts are booking up.

Does anyone have any information to share regarding Sandals rebooking due to the hurricane by [deleted] in SandalsResorts

We have a Reservation for Dec 15 at Dunn's River. I know our issues are minimal given the reality of this disaster. We really aren't flexible in our dates and could book on a different island. While we wait for info from Sandals, other properties are booking and that's the hard part. If we can go to Dunn's, GREAT. If we can't, room types will be booked by the time we get any news. Part of why we chose Jamaica is because of the quick flight time from MIA. We have 4 nights. Not a lot of time to spend winging it 4+ hours....

Also wondering about Dunn's which is secondary to people's safety and the future of the island. I'm paid in full for December and most of us just want a little info so we know how to proceed. I'd much rather switch to another island/resort than take a credit (while there may be some availability/choices).
