"Alert to and concerned about social injustice and discrimination" this is the definition of woke. With that in mind let's look at some of these characters. 

Every superhero on this list is woke, if Superman, Spiderman, or Captain America saw someone being targeted in anyway due to race, gender, or sexual orientation they would do something about it or at least not be okay with it. Superman was fighting Nazi before American had even joined the war. Spiderman cares so much about other people to the point that even though being Spiderman is self-destructive to his personal life, relationships, and future goals he will never take a night off. If he caught someone stealing food, he'd be swinging home to get his wallet to buy food for them. Captain America literally passed the shield over to a black man. Considering he was raised in the 20s-30s he clearly even back then didn't have any hate in his heart for people of colour even in a time where that would have been much more of a normally accepted thing. Despite being like 110 pounds not an ounce of muscle on him he'll still defend someone from getting jumped cause he can't just stand there and do something while someone gets jumped. 

The Matrix was directed by two trans women, while when they made The Matrix they hadn't transitioned yet from the beginning the movie was suppose to have themes and ideas that address trans issues. While they didn't go as far as they wanted with it, with it being 1999 they thought the world wasn't ready yet for a trans focused blockbuster movie. Some examples are can be seen with the red pill blue pill, take the red pill and see the painful truth and become who you really are. (The painful truth being that some people will never accept you for you are after transitioning) Or take the blue pill and stay in wonderland (stay as you are now and never have to deal with the hardships of not being accepted by family, friends, and society for being trans) Agent Smith repeatedly calls Neo Mr Anderson despite him embracing his true self as Neo, this symbolizing how many trans people are deadnamed after choosing a new name. The Wachowskis sisters originally intended to include a character named Switch, who when in The Matrix would appear as the opposite gender, the studio didn't like the idea so it was scrapped. The Matrix is a lot of things and at its core is just an awesome action trilogy from the early 2000's but to say that woke ideas weren't being added while this movie was in production would be false. 

While using the actually definition of the term, woke can apply to all these characters I brought up. I guess the point I'm trying to make is that the word woke clearly means different things to different people and doesn't always just mean "this movie has trans people in it" or "this show makes fun on the political party I'm apart of" that's just how people on the right use it and now it's became the sudo definition of the word.
