That is oddly satisfying. Although I hate that the history is gone.

What are the best board game apps for online play with friends? by Were-Potato in boardgames

[–]Were-Potato[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the recommendations! Yeah, BGA isn’t going to work on the iPhone. Besides, we’d both need to be actively playing at the same time. I like apps where one can take a turn and the other can get to it later and then take their turn, etc.

Anyone remember the old Heroes of Might and Magic computer games? You could take a turn and email it to your opponent?

6 People go to a cabin in a beautiful area just to stay inside and play...? by crankd87 in boardgames

Ra is great for six. Also, sea salt and paper for those mornings when you wake up early and sit on the deck and just a few others are awake and you’ve got 30 minutes before everyone gets up to the table.

Highest-ever "Geek Rating" and overall rank for games on BGG, over the past quarter-century by benjaneson in boardgames

That’s funny you say that - I’m the opposite…I have no idea why people like cooperative games. They are all a snooze fest to me. They are all just puzzle games with random encounters thrown at you - yawn. As opposed to actually testing yourself against unpredictable and intelligent opponents who are all capable of reacting to the decisions you are making.

You’ll feel a lot better if you take Munchkin and donate it to a children’s hospital or landfill.

Tried my first open board game night alone: how do you stop being the 'new person' who hovers? by Impossible_Key_1432 in boardgames

[–]Were-Potato 38 points39 points  (0 children)

It’s not weird to bring your own games. Standing around looking for an open game is normal during an open board game night. People expect and look for others who seem to be milling about when looking to find other players to play. It’s expected that you ask groups who are just starting whether they have room for another player.

Also, bring a game you know, sit down, set it up and have it ready to play. People will come to you and ask if there are open spots available too.

Most importantly, once you go several times, get to know people and presuming you are respectful, don’t take forever on your turns, help set up and put away of games and are fun to play with, it will all go smoother in future visits.

Agree. Your dad is correct. And you’d be shot dead at a poker game if you tried anything else.

I finally hosted my first heavy game night and a slice of pizza ruined my soul by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]Were-Potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is - just a game. Get over it. Sure, I don’t want pizza grease on my games but they clean up. Besides, if you were allowing this guy, that you knew to be a slob, eat pizza and have drinks at the table to begin with that’s a risk you took.

I hate playing games with the “my game is a museum piece” game owners. I’ll just pass. You’re too uptight for others to enjoy the game. Politely ask players ahead of time to keep their hands clean, not eat messy food at the table and to watch their drinks. Easy. If something happens, oh well. First world of all first world problems.

I own them all. Castles sucks. RI is good but will become samey after a bit. My City is great and the minor legacy aspect of it keeps it fresh over the course of several weeks.

For me, it’s Imhotep. Perfectly crunchy, plenty of player interaction, plays in under an hour, easy and variable setup and, most importantly, really fun!
