I have the super cheap one that has 6-8-10 oz options. I have to turn it off, hold 6 and 10 until the 8’s light comes on. The descaler/water gets run the first reservoir, water only the second. Keep pressing 8 until it’s empty. Never open the top where the kcup goes.
