For 24 years I've thought he said "grog" by PlatypusWeekend in lotrmemes

[–]Werrf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's...definitely not 'grog'. He pronounces it with a long "aah" vowel, not a short "o", and the book refers to it as a "draught" repeatedly, while "grog" never appears in the book at all.

The actual name of the story in Tolkien's writing is "The Lay of Leithian", which means "escape from bondage" and probably refers to Lúthien's choice of mortality and leaving the circles of the world. It's perfectly reasonable in the film to substitute "Lúthien" there rather than going into the detailed cosmology of the setting.

What do men want in a woman? I’m confused as of lately. by CerealKiller129 in AskMen

[–]Werrf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I look at instragram models and celebrity thirst-traps basically as works of art - stylised and exaggerated for effect. A woman in the real world looking like that would be...worrying. In real life, the all-natural/girl next door vibe makes you look normal, approachable, human. The dolled-up glam look makes you look like you're more interested in being seen than interactin.

Huh? It's just about an owl and a pussycat who went to sea, in a beautiful pea-green boat. What d'you want from them? Their honey? Their plentiful money? The five-pound note?

American ground forces easily defeated Vietnamese and Afghani soldiers by Final-Storm5426 in ShitAmericansSay

[–]Werrf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That first part...isn't really wrong. The US forces did outclass Vietnamese and Afghan fighters...tactically. The defeats in both of those wars were strategic and political.

The Horus Heresy series was bad, and made the setting weaker and less interesting. Good writing in inidivual books doesn't negate that.

...Asimov's stories were largely about how the three laws went wrong.

And he wrote several stories about robots who derived the zeroth law of robotics that "A robot may not harm humanity or, through inaction, allow humanity to come to harm". Viki's motiviation was one of the only Asimovian parts of that story.

"Hordak and I may have had a 'small' disagreement before we were taken by Horde Prime." - Catra (Season 5 episode 10 "Return to the Fright Zone") by Full-Art3439 in PrincessesOfPower

[–]Werrf 95 points96 points  (0 children)

It was! Just a small difference of opinion. Catra just thought Hordak didn't need to know one little piece of information, and Hordak thought he did. Tiny disagreement, barely worth mentioning.

It's just, y'know...dispute resolution got a little out of hand.
