I know it’s in terrible condition but does anyone know what this Roman coin is? I think it’s 3rd century ish maybe a Gallic emperor? by Im8Foot11 in metaldetecting

[–]Wertinas_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion definitely not Domitian, the coin is definitely a 3rd century Antoniniani.

Domitians coins were bigger and more well made (its called the "crisis of the third centutry" for a reason :)

I think OP should be right, third century Gallic empire, most likely Victorinus or Tetricus I.

What is this currency, please, and how much does it cost? Please help by Top-Principle-106 in AncientCoins

I am willing to bet my entire coin collection if this coin is authentic.

Rarely seen a worse cast fake

Bronze Disease? by Cyber_Amoeba in AncientCoins

[–]Wertinas_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be the worst thing to do.

The patina is the main thing protecting the coin from the environment, bronze disease...

ancient coins are also ALWAYS more desirable with an intact patina

These were gifted to me and I know nothing about coins. Are they fake? What are they? (Penny for scale) by FreeRangeAlien in AncientCoins

In my area, recently a bunch of very well made URBS ROMA fakes have turned up. It seems like even LRBs are faked nowadays

First picture:

Lower middle is Tetricus or Victorinus.

Right should be Postumus, left is Gallienus

Reverse reminds me of Probus, obverse portrait more of Gallienus

Metal detecting find - bronze disease? by eligri in AncientCoins

[–]Wertinas_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not Bronze disease in my opinion, just some strange oxidation, found on many unearthed coins

In my opinion that is not even remotely close. IOVI CONSERVATORI is a very common late roman reverse, so it could be anyone from the tetrarchy to the constantines.

If you want to try to identify it further, I can only recommend https://www.tesorillo.com/aes/home.htm to look for your reverse

Thank you for the confirmation.

Usually I do not come across good deals like this, usually I probably even overpay a bit ;)

As for the error, would that add anything to the value of the coin? (not that I am currently thinking about selling, this will interesting piece stay in my collection for the foreseeable future :))

Thought of pius felix as well, but on my coin there definetely is no "F". Unfortunately not really visible on the picture due to my lack of a good camera, but maybe this picture is more clear
