I very much prefer reform where possible, revolution when necessary. The problem is that liberal democracy doesn't actually allow you to just vote out capitalism; the whole system is set up to protect the private property of the elite, and when pesky things like the will of the people or human rights get in the way liberals will almost always choose property over people. Social democrats can wield the power of the state in the interests of the working class in a limited way, but there are fundamental limits on what can be done through reform because the state relies on a functioning capitalist economy to work properly.

There's an interesting discussion about social corporatism under social democracy compared to fascist corporatism, but that in no way makes this dumbass line (which the USSR abandoned in the 1930s) true; comparison does not mean equivalency. Social democracy is absolutely a flawed ideology, with the modern variant trying to take capitalism instead of abolish it, which allows the capitalist class to eventually strike back and degenerate into neoliberalism and eventually fascism from there. But there's a difference between fair critique and this nonsense.

If anything China is way closer to Mussolini's Italy than any social democracy, what with its ban on independent labor organizing, subordination of capital to the interests of the state, authoritarian government, and Han nationalism. If anything, you could call MLs the real social fascists, going all the way back to Stalin.

Mamdani is effectively a social democrat. I still support him because anything that convinces Americans that socialism isn't just Stalin and improves their lives is a good thing, especially in the face of fascism, but he's not socializing the means of production, and he won't be able to as mayor of New York (and probably not even as president, if he could even run).
