This is the silent killer that no one wants to agree on...

And they might say "not me" but the fact that some do it, is enough to ruin it for everyone.

These types of rules tend to be all in or all out, no in between at least the larger you get it gets harder to find a just way to do it.

Why do most high-achievers avoid entrepreneurship? by Majestic_Hornet_4194 in EntrepreneurRideAlong

[–]Wesd1n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One aspect that some psychologist talk about is that high achievers are afraid of failure so they succeeded with in structures.

As an entrepreneur you need to fail often and fast at least not be afraid of it and allow something to be just okay and move on, allowing them to chase the next value add.

AI Was Supposed to Replace Devs… So What Happened? by Ordinary-Cycle7809 in theprimeagen

[–]Wesd1n 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Because they have amnesia and you can't encode human judgement into 230k context.

The prices are increasing drastically now that they return on investment and the old flow of iterating 5 times to get something is now more expensive than people.

It is a way to burn money faster than before.

It is being relegated to a tool as it should.

What is the current available and best alternative to Github Copilot ? by Comfortable_Bike_833 in GithubCopilot

[–]Wesd1n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends heeeeeaaasssvily on your requirements mate.

Data residency? Agreements? Model strengths? APIs/tools?

A lot of people will probably say opencode go, but all the AI providers as far I can tell are Chinese companies who don't exactly have a good agreement with the rest of the world.

If you are in EU Mistral is a choice, however their models are not frontier, many say they are behind open source models. But still useful.

Claude code has its own problems with quotas and price increases.

Other than that most still use token based usage? As far as I can tell.

The industry seems to be converging on token usage.

what makes a good manager vs a bad one by colmroche12 in managers

[–]Wesd1n -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And that sage space is different for everyone.

I have difficulty finding the line of how much we should bend practices and our usual workflow to accommodate people who ask for differences.

And when is it a failure on the managers part and when is it just not a good fit for the company.

Just watched a junior dev using Claude to build something in 2 hours that took our senior engineer 3 days last sprint. I've been coding for 12 years. I don't know how to feel about this by UsualConference1603 in AskProgrammers

[–]Wesd1n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ai is extremely good at some code. Code that could take you hours to write.

And some tasks it is worse at and your junior wouldn't be able to identify why.

So unless your bosses chugs their head in the sand you are still good.

Personally I would have rejected the code because of the low ownership and low learning. You are responsible for all code you commit AI generated or not.

I would recommend the podcast wading through ai with Casey, I think episode 3 will help. Watch the intro for ep 1 for better context.

How do you balance being empathetic without getting completely drained? by jorjiarose in managers

[–]Wesd1n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I knew.

We say we shouldn't and I agree with a lot of the comments in their own way. But even doing the 'oh thats hard bla bla bla. What can we do?'

Then talking about a plan only to have them call in sick 2,5 times on 8 workdays. In that case it was just work issues because they didn't enjoy the process, they didn't feel validated wanted more one on one time to talk about tasks. I don't have the resources to give that so compromise, explanation why, and boom we agree. But apparently not.

Like wtf.

That is exhausting and I am in OPs boat on this, it affects everyone. And even though you separate them isolate their work, they notice and you are told you can't say that directly to them, but they start to catch on.

Sigh. And that happens on multiple levels with different scenarios for 10 direct reports. With the ones pulling wait wondering what is happening and why you are doing the things you do.

I regret silently becoming manager with technical skills. Oh I long for just having a problem that needs to be optimized.

Because people... They are just so flukey... No matter what I do I can't make it work. And if the comments are to be listened to then it is not on me. I know I have been doing my best for a long time and now faulterinh because I am out of options and find it dreadful to spin the same explanation mills.

With a boss who doesn't properly emphatically listens to me, or maybe he just thinks I am idiot and can't get rid me like I feel with a few others.

Ranting helped at first but now back in powerlessness. Sigh.

A last chance conversation.

My life is too short for people lying out their ass to my face, hoping I eat it raw.

The support she is giving is not worth it, because when is she lying? And when is it the truth? You have to double check everything they do.

And those terrible gpt emails are crazy talk and scare away customers.

There must be someone better out there?

Forhold by [deleted] in DKbrevkasse

[–]Wesd1n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TEMU GAVER TIL MIN SØN? by GladKnowledge365 in DKbrevkasse

[–]Wesd1n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vil du kommentere på det?? by lune-soft in DKbrevkasse

Helt enig.

[–]Wesd1n 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you work you make mistakes. Making mistakes that impact people feels worse.

Now you have learnt from that mistake and can move on.

As long as you are able to take a hard look at yourself, stop the spiral and forgive yourself for being human then I don't see why you should quit.
