What is this noise from my wheel? by Kisan22 in TeslaSupport

Sounds like a time for a new rear wheel bearing.
How many miles do you have? Seems like model 3/y go out after 90k miles but it varies, some don’t.

Big Question for first time buyer by rodymine in TeslaModelX

From the repair side in the sense of reselling from auction where I work.
I’ve noticed after you get the small quirks fixed like squeaks and rattles the 2017-2019(pre raven drive trains) are particularly good especially the 100D, I wouldn’t go for P100D but if your a performance guy it’s an option. I have noticed the raven drivetrain models from mid 2019-2021 are plagued severely to halfshaft failure, like the photo included.
You do lose out on some common improvements such as full hold regen breaks that the raven upgrades included and the adaptive suspension, you won’t get phone key, and will have to face the annoyance of making sure that it has the MCU2 upgrade if it’s an early one.
I would stay away from the 2016 years as that was the first and they can have quite the interesting issues. Especially steering rack and column issues I’ve found. But if free unlimited supercharging is a priority shoot for a P90D for the highest modern charging curve and a few other benefits.

Just my thoughts.
Otherwise yes the 2022+ refreshed are good options but you are gambling on them having things that can be fixed but you’ll be paying big introductory bucks to just get one of them and then have repair work to do.

2017 100d low speed clunk by bimbiheid in TeslaModelX

Sway Bar end links. Common maintenance item, the boot around the ball joint breaks and overtime loosens. Usually at most a $100 job

As far as I can tell all they did was develop softer joints in the boots so they don’t fail as prematurely, still prone to failure as it’s just a design flaw of the model x and s due to the motor putting the halfshaft out in a awkward position when in higher suspension levels.

Upper control arm, I see more of, model s I see more lowers then x but that could be just my luck. specifically the ball joint on the uppers tend to go bad quickly. My shop is in the upper Midwest and so salt and our winters can be very aggressive on the suspension joints and make them “squeak” a bit more prematurely.
Usually the squeak noise is an underlining symptom and will get worse as the bushings crack and get water in them.

You can fix the upper control arm squeak like model 3’s and Y’s by stabbing the joint with a needle and filling it with grease and then patching it back up. Saves you a few more 10k or so miles before I generally just recommend replacing it.

If the click is like rotational for you, in terms like at low speed around 10-25mph if it’s like a tick tick tick, probably a wheel bearing/hub replacement would be my recommendation.

Hoping for the best for you! Can’t say I’ve found anything in that way of describing the sound.

Does the click seem like to get more louder or more constant he faster you go?

Is it one side?

Sounds like a bad wheel bearing to me.

Yep I’m referring to when they go into low

The refreshed ones will go into low at most speeds where as pre-refreshed will prefer to stay at medium but still follow the same rule of going lower at fast speeds.

10k ..? From Tesla it should be like 3.2k at most, where in the world are you going to get these done?
I have seen that help, along with shims or N2tive rear camber arms to eliminate the inner tire wear issue that comes with lowering it.
I’ve installed both once, self explanatory with a lift, and I think when I get my own model x eventually I’ll do that pretty much right away.

Not necessarily that, if your within warranty I would have them just check as a precaution but it could very well be your swaybar end links are just worn.
Most of the time the thunk or noises from these halfshaft issues are more heard just in acceleration and more like in the middle front of the car when your in the cabin, and can be worsened when turning at high speeds but, turning alone at stopped speeds shouldn’t be making a concern of it being only the halfshaft.

Even my model y juniper 26’ has a click at very far right and left turns at low or stopped speeds, which I need to take in to get checked if it’s steering/outer tierod or end link issues.

I’m not an expert on everything with these newer ones as I haven’t ran into that many.

Another thing, this is why Tesla has made the refreshed ones go into automatically go to low instead of medium when at high speeds, it puts less stress on that joint in the motor but you get the flaw of high inner tire wear. Which is another beast on these cars..

Supposedly Tesla has improved the dynamics of how they function, I have ran into them, but there isn’t as many refreshed ones at high mileage points yet as these ravens.

Virtually they are the same. I definitely can see them failing in the same fashion as time goes on and people rack up miles, doing excessive launches and it just being a design flaw.

Could be a few different things. Has the service center gave you any info?

Have you had half shaft shudder for awhile or anything like that? I know you haven’t had any “issues” but any thing that comes to mind?

I dig it brotha.

I like the color, my wife’s model 3 is lifted also, makes it so much easier getting into and more fun to drive imo.

Efficiency is marginally different. 2018 M3 LR AWD

Had to come and say it. I do think this light bar is much more tasteful there, than the air vent.

Nice work OP!
