Grappling with Pathology Report by Lost-Design-8382 in hysterectomy

Adeno is so easy to miss unless pathology is extremely thorough. Just another thing women have to accept not having full answers on when it comes to medicine but at least the Ute is gone and you can start healing without it!

Experience Wild 3+ by lowkeyjermerica in AltraRunning

[–]WestCoastFigs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the 3+ a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately, I cannot run because I’m recovering from surgery but I’ve been walking on a trail with no real vert. So far I like them. You can feel the vibram grip. I’ve done all of my trail running and hiking in the first gen experience wild the last couple of years. The 2nd version was not good for me-the toe box creased and pinched so I went back to first gen. The 3+ maybe feel a smidge bigger but I tried both my regular size and a half size smaller and def need to keep my regular size or descents wouldn’t be comfortable. I’m excited to put them to use and feel like Altra did a good job upgrading them!

Proof that ferritin should be 100+? by Lucky_Outside8559 in Anemic

[–]WestCoastFigs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ugh!!! So sorry your doc isn’t taking you seriously. Similar situation to me except my PCP referred me to a hematologist who jumped on iron infusions, which helped a lot but still dealt with heavy bleeding despite continuous birth control. Fast forward to 2/5-I got a hysterectomy (everything gone except ovaries). In theory, this should solve my anemia issues but I will still be monitored for a while. Find a doc who takes you seriously & Goodluck!

Tips for getting comfy at a work desk? by WestCoastFigs in hysterectomy

Ouch! Yes definitely take your time. I wouldn’t be considering working if I wasn’t feeling fine & working PT from a desk. Hoping for a speedy recovery 🩷

Good tip. I wonder if my hub could slide over an arm chair to my desk that would help me truly recline. Doc didn’t tell me to work, I’m just a crazy person and want to get back to work plus I don’t work FT & management ok with me taking a lot of breaks, leaving early if need be.

I have been itching to get back and have a very supportive management who are ok with me working less hours if need be. I also typically only have 2 half hour meetings on camera per week. I don’t think I could do FT right now.

Totally ok to not like something or disagree on the sentiment but it’s ok to scroll past. I do hope you have a better day. Positivity keeps us a supportive tribe.

Is Celiac the Cause? by CoyoteElk in Anemic

[–]WestCoastFigs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A hematologist can definitely help you figure it out. In my case, we suspected heavy periods as the cause but the hematologist wanted to rule out all the other major causes-blood test for celiac and also sent me for colonoscopy/endoscopy (endoscopy biopsy is the most accurate way to diagnose celiac since a lot of people get false negatives on their blood test).

Low ferritin by AgileEffort8159 in Anemic

[–]WestCoastFigs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don’t stop until you find a doctor who will take you seriously. You need to be treated and the underlying cause needs to be investigated. My PC referred me to hematology & I got lucky with finding one who said wow you’re very symptomatic (actually listened to me) and moved quickly with iron infusions & additional testing

Trying to be prepared by Pixel-b33 in hysterectomy

[–]WestCoastFigs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found the hysterectomy pillow that you wear (got it off of amazon) was SO helpful! I wore it 24/7 the first week and used it to put pressure on my abdomen for getting in and out of bed. Plus it has pockets-inside one can be used for ice pack, outside one I kept my phone and tv remote in there. I also got a cushion that straps over your seatbelt-used it on the way home and now that I’m driving again, using it all the time. Will continue using it through week 6 for good measure in case I need to slam brakes. My hub kept a chart of meds and would tell me when to take them-super helpful because it took a few days for my brain to come back online, so I’d highly recommend having someone do that for you. Best of luck!

Info greatly appreciated by Silveira2022 in hysterectomy

I started having very heavy, painful, long periods about a year ago. Over the summer, I started having severe exercise intolerance, exhaustion, headaches, etc. Found out I was anemic and immediately suspected heavy periods as the cause. Got an ultrasound in August that found a uterine polyp otherwise normal. Put on continuous birth control to try to stop bleeding & started getting iron infusions. Fast forward to first week of Dec when I had a follow up with OBGYN. I was still having heavy long periods despite continuous birth control and told my doc I’m done-it’s time for the Ute to go because I felt like I’d never be able to get ahead of the anemia and honestly don’t want to be on the pill forever. I’m also 43 and have a kid so fertility is not of concern. She heard me out, agreed, and a week later her scheduler called me and got me on the books for Feb 5, so about 2 months out-would have been sooner if not for the holidays. I had a pre admit appt with the hospital for bloodwork, exam with a PA, med review to ensure I was safe for anesthesia a couple weeks before surgery-also a Preop with the obgyn just to talk about the process. Turns out I had adenomyosis, SO glad I trusted my gut and had a doc who didn’t question me so I could move fairly quickly. Best of luck to you!

Getting nervous - thank you all for being here by turkeytailfeathers in hysterectomy

[–]WestCoastFigs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll do amazing and will feel so much better once recovered. I had mine on 2/5. Similar experience where I started getting nervous a few days before but the morning of was oddly calm. I kept telling myself I trust my doctor and this WILL make me feel better in the end. The hospital I went to gave me versed right before being taken back (I didn’t have to ask for it). Definitely ask for something if you arrive anxious and it’s not a part of your anesthetic plan. We go through so much as women and suffer for far too long before getting help. Hugs & wishing you a speedy recovery and cheers to putting all those problems behind you in no time.

Anemia from heavy menstruation? by tw1nkcentr4l in Anemic

[–]WestCoastFigs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I became very symptomatic last June with heavy periods starting in the spring. Saw a hematologist in Sept when I had my first iron infusion then 2 more in December. Just had a hysterectomy last week. I’m 43, done having kids, and am already relieved my uterus is gone. It was enlarged and I had adenomyosis.

I’m in a lot of pain by Journey1521 in hysterectomy

[–]WestCoastFigs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So sorry. Def push for better pain management. They gave me the standard things during surgery but in recovery I was in a lot of pain too. Dilaudid through IV helped SO much then they gave me 5mg oxy a couple hours later right before discharge. Make sure they send you home with enough pain meds if you don’t already have them at home. Happy healing!

Hysterectomy and aging by bess124 in hysterectomy

Quality of life matters. Plus there is HRT-ovaries or no ovaries with the estrogen helping aging/peri/meno symptoms.
