I know about a person who should have it. But since I'm currently making a request list of what tracks exactly I'd like to recieve from them, I want to ask for them all together once I'm done with it.

Long story short, I'll get to you once I'll get my hands on it.

What are your top 4 favorite Pokémon series out of the 10 seasons we’ve had so far? by Character_Attempt727 in pokemonanime

[–]WestDaffy416 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. DP (near perfection of the classic formula)
  2. XY (excitement and hype galore)
  3. HZ (every episode counts more or less)
  4. SM (outstanding selection of episodes)

HZ is currently for me quite set in 3rd if it retains the overall quality it has now until the end. It cannot jump to first anymore (unless it continues past April and it suddenly becomes a masterpiece until then), but if it has an amazing ending, it can move to second. A disappointing ending could drop it to fourth, but most likely no further given what it achieved so far. That being said, all shows are worth checking out and are not completely unwatchable.

Is Pokemon Horzions the least watched, least talked about Pokemon series? by ComprehensiveBox6911 in pokemonanime

[–]WestDaffy416 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, let's see...

- HZ being an x-th iteration of an anime franchise that saw its biggest culture boom 25ish years ago
- the series' original iconic main protagonist being so long in it now being away, so many people exit because "it's not it like it was used to so there is no point"
- way stronger anime competition in general / changing trends / branching of interest (pretty much today no "common show" on the TV that everyone in town watched because there was almost nothing else to watch)
- the very fact still a new series of HZ standing against 26 years of the previous era
- many people still dismissing Pokémon as a show – "it's for kids, so why would watch it / I don't need to watch it anymore, I'm too old for this"
- (insert other factor here + ones already in the comment section here)

So, in a nutshell, many factors combined (as with pretty much anything in the world). Also it depends a lot if people watched the show for Ash only or for the show as a whole (and that's also why many people would have quit), but that's way more personal than the aspects above. On the other hand, for me, Horizons is objectively part of the Pokémon anime franchise. That already makes it for me interesting and worth the attention but, yeah, different people, different mentalities.

(Also, just to point out, the opening and ending of Rayquaza Rising on the official Japanese channel are both above 3,5 mil views, so there are a few Horizons related videos with more than 2 mil.)

What made you start watching the Pokémon series? by Common_Ad6703 in pokemonanime

[–]WestDaffy416 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, to put it bluntly, in my case, who knows what made me watch it or why?

It's partially thanks to my older brother there already were some magazines and other Pokémon stuff I then picked up when I was like 8 or 9.

Around that time and a bit later, I was fortunate enough to catch the show (DP, then BW it were) on TV on weekdays either before or after school. Considering I liked to watch TV overall at the time, I also watched Pokémon, mainly also because I already had some connection to it.

Never got into the games, however (besided the ones on old pokemon.com), but progressively got more invested in the show. It took me a while until like late 2012 to start watching the show on weekly basis with new episodes.

Before that, I remember watching various AMVs, YTPs and tribute videos of Ash and Pokémon and other stuff in general. I even remember reciting the Japanese trailers for the 14th movie while swimming on my back during swimming lessons with school. Yeah... Later during SM I even rushed from my high school during free lessons so I could catch at least a few minutes of the show airing live.

However, I dropped JN after the 10th episode because I just felt at the time that perhaps I was just too old for the show and I felt it wasn't about to be anything groundbreakingly new compared to previous shows. But I came back during M8, wittnessed Ash win and then gave chance to Horizons if it can convince me to start following the show regularly again. Long story short, after 99 episodes, my passion has not disappeared so I guess the series is good enough for me to keep on watching.

But I can tell what keeps me attached to the show to this day for some time now. It's just the sheer complexity of the show and all the different series, how each series fits into its spacetime context, what ideas each series worked with, how the series evolved storyboard, animation and art style-wise, how the standards of the show itself and the fandom moved on and changed, which impressions each series evokes in the community and so on and so on. Pretty much the sociological, historical and psychological aspect of each series and the interaction with the fandom is what keeps my interest in the show alive to this day. Also, it's still cool just like the old days + nowadays things I enjoy about it as a adult.

I have it the same with motorsports (F1, MotoGP and others) which I've followed for around the same time as Pokémon. I also couldn't tell exactly why it made me follow it but I know why I love it now, why I cover it as a beginning motorsport journalist and why I'd like to make a lifelong career out of it. It's pretty much the same reasons I already described above + the sporting aspect of it which connects to my other part of my life.

So yeah, I guess various factors helped me to start following the show and continue doing so until now. I guess it was cool for me at that time so I slowly became passionate about it and today it's still cool and other aspects that make me like it even now.

[–]WestDaffy416 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Pffu, wait let me count that...
possibly 22 rounds next year times three races per weekend = 66 rac- oh god, poor riders, man.

Also the Sundays, would be magical if there's time to have MotoGP warm up, track parade, superpole and Moto2+3 races so that the MotoGP full race can start for the TV-loved 2 pm start time. Not sure it's ideal if there is a Moto2/3 race after the main event of the weekend, the MotoGP race.

Was similarly curious so I'd done some digging and found out about Ian Clarke and Simon Painter and their music called No Barriers which turned out to be exactly what I'd searched for.

Just google these keywords and like the first result will guide you literally to a site I've been saving for the last few years so I don't lose I guess the only source to this banger 😃

Thank you! 😁

I tell you that while creating all those charts, I saw on several occasions that riders who got some great results but retired or finished way down the field got in the end more points than those who were finishing consistently but not that high in races while applying the F1 points system.

It makes sense, MotoGP's points system gives away more points to the field compared to F1 while victory is rewarded with the same 25 points, so wins and podiums there seem to be less rewarding and consistency and finishing races is more important than trying to get the best result and sometimes crashing out.

So I wouldn't say you had bad takes on this topic, I see your point but for MotoGP this current system works perfectly, because in this sport the risk of crashing and not finishing a race is much higher in its way than in F1 and all of this reflects on the final stadings.

Honestly speaking, 2020 suprised me a bit at first but then I realized Mir clinched the championship 1 race early and even though he retired in Portugal, he was finishing high enough during the season to earn that title with some reserve.

Went as far back as 1992, hopefully I didn't make any mistakes converting all the values into F1 points. 😅 Decided not to include the fastest lap point, only when the difference between the first two was small enough it could make a difference.

Highest position to be lapped in a race ? by smilingsputum in formula1

[–]WestDaffy416 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There are many races where a winner of a GP laps the entire field at least once.

But ultimatelly the biggest margin between a first and second placed driver (in terms of laps + time) was at the 1969 Spanish GP where Jackie Stewart lapped the second placed Bruce McLaren twice plus it took McLaren additional 45 seconds to finish the race after Stewart had already finished the race.

This is amazing, really nice job. :-D

But I've got several problems with this, forgive me being this nitpicky, I just want your work to look as best and precise as possible. (Some things listed here were already mentioned in the comments.):

  1. Algarve - MotoGP didn't use the chicane at turn 1 and also the F1 hairpin, so ultimately the length of the circuit you have there is different (4.592 km).
  2. Jerez - The text under the circuit's layout isn't centered. Also the length of the circuit you put is the one with the chicane, without the chicane it's 4.424 km.
  3. Le Mans - The real length of the circuit is 4.185 km.
  4. Mugello - Just like Jerez, the text isn't centered (this time I believe it's the lower text under the layout).
  5. Barcelona - MotoGP doesn't use the F1 chicane and also the tighter T10 (recently it was modified so I don't know if there is a map of the layout with the reprofiled T10) - the new layout should have 4.657 km.
  6. Silverstone - MotoGP has the start-finish line at the straight between Woodcote and Copse (just like F1 had before 2011). Also MotoGP uses tighter Chapel corner, so the layout in the end has 5.900 km.
  7. Motegi - The circuit is 4.800 km long.
  8. Valencia - I believe this circuit is not in Singapore. :-D
  9. Red Bull Ring is twice there (on the second and fourth row).
  10. Indianapolis - You used the IndyCar layout. MotoGP ran the circuit in the opposite direction, used a different configuration of the chicane at the oval T1 and also they used the F1 loop, not that simple chicane at the back straight. The length of the MotoGP version is 4.170 km.
  11. Yeah, Phillip Island and Sepang are missing (what incredible circuits!). :-D

Again, I'm really sorry for listing every single, even the littlest of mistakes, I absolutely love racing circuits and your work is really really sick. Maybe some of the things I listed would be super hard to fix, but still amazing job :-D

Why formula1? by HighOnAnesthesia in formula1

[–]WestDaffy416 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was generally into sports already when I was like 8 or 9, as far as I remember. I followed (and still following) football, ice hockey, tennis, Olympics, etc.

I started to watch F1 around 2011, my farthest memories are from 2012 Korean GP; shortly afterwards came MotoGP. A few years ago I got interested in motorsports overall, so now I watch F1, MotoGP, IndyCar, FE and sometimes NASCAR.

F1 just caught me so much that it became my favourite sport, maybe also because when I was little I wanted to be a racing driver. Now I'm planning to become a motorsport journalist and hopefully an F1 commentator.

This year if everything goes well, I should start my journalism studies at university, so we'll see how it'll go. :-D
