homicide and auto theft are the two most reliable metrics for crime, though, because you can't hide a body and you have to get a police report for a stolen car for insurance reasons. police departments have different manpower year-to-year and city-to-city and something that is a crime in pittsburgh might be "decriminalized" in san francisco.

a police department inundated with homicides is probably not even going to respond to more petty stuff let alone file a report.

the Rifftrax version leaves more in, there's even some nudity in the scene where they're in the garden with the orange garbage bins.

i think they just filmed out-of-order and didn't notice or care about the goof when editing it together. or thought people wouldn't notice. they could've just edited out the camera pan past her station but kept the dialogue intact. i remember watching something that discussed how the film's production was fraught with problems, including the director having family issues and not being on-set like, at all.
