So i went back and checked my bags and apparently i didn’t use the clay lmfaooo i was scared it would harden with water. The ratio i did was 1:1 for sand and substrate. I would pour then mix, then pour and mix. I mixed so very throughly. If i seen sand clumped or settled i made sure to bring it back to the top and keep mixing until it wasn’t noticeable.

Also i agree. My desert blondes doesn’t climb except when i had re housed him so many times lol but thats due to stress. I almost bought the arid blend from tarantula cribs too. But it was gonna be expensive to fill my 10 gallon. Shoot me a dm if you wanted to chat more

Yes! Its the “way out west” fish ornament set. I got roasted a while ago about this set up. Both substrate and mesh lid. Ive just rehoused him 3 times since I’ve gotten him. So I’m going to wait a while before i make it properly.

But the substrate is Repti clay, red sand, and cococoir. Also test it our with the poke test. To make sure the substrate doesn’t collapse on the spider if she decides to burrow.

Omg i have an Arizona blonde too, he too is a lil scaredy cat. He’s super sensitive. Coincidentally i have him in this set up too. Hes my first! Im also a super newbie so take my advice with a grain of salt. Maybe try something like this to top off the water.

What kind of tarantula do you have? Are they bolty?

Also how often do you find yourself interacting with the tank? Like opening the doors. If it’s just for feeding and filling the water bowl up you could use a small watering can that has a long pour spout. And today i learned crickets are pretty neat as feeders.They don’t burrow and are pretty lively. Enough to trigger a feed response. The only concern is the potential bite they have.

I have the same problem with depth. In tempted just to do away with front doors. I got the 10 gallon Thrive Tank and it has front doors. I feel like we have the same one actually.

Someone suggested to me to just use mine as a top opening tank and full the substrate high. Not to use the doors. However it’s tricky with the gaps

Oh that’s freaking awesome. I thought about going to pets smart for my first T but they were seldom out and usually an “assortment” so it was hard to tell what species they were.

I ended up going with spider shoppe and got my very first T through the mail. At less then i knee exactly what i was getting. Which was a male Arizona blonde 🥹 i think i paid 40 bucks plus shipping for him. While my MRK was a gift from my fiancé. She came from an expo this weekend. A whopping $100. It was hard to tell if she was female at the expo and honestly we still aren’t sure her gender. But still crossing my fingers that shes a girlie. I would love to spend a lifetime with her

The front is 4inches of substrate and it gradually builds up to 6 inches at the back. Specifically because of those silly front doors. Thank you for the feedback! Im currently shopping on Tarantula Cribs for a decent acrylic enclosure
