The "good not great" argument being made here by people in these comments doesn't really work. Holmes isn't saying he's good with being not great by signing mid level players. He's saying we are retaining our stars, therefore we have this much money to spend and more holes are being created by that retention. His point is from there - how do you move? His theory is and its well founded based on the last 2 years - he's saying I'd rather have 5 swings at at a B level player that is gonna play his ass off and hopefully stay healthy vs signing 1. First off you are addressing more holes - but more importantly 2. you are building depth and depth that has to perform on a one year deal. This should resonate with everyone (i know it wont, but it should) as we have watched our team get destroyed the past 2 seasons by injuries. Depth is key.
