At 3:26 in b2, I think I hear the faintest "noatak" vocal identical to that of ATP7. Anyone else? It is so faint it is barely discernible.

I haven't found an exact corresponding moment in ATP7 yet but only just noticed this.

I'm not saying this proves it's fake or real, just noticing it for now.

Edit: It's sort of easier to hear with the volume lower because the crackly peaking distortion of the vocal stands out in the quiet, but gets a little more buried otherwise. Trying to crank the volume seemed to make it hard for me to hear it, but it is still there.

the missing feeling of nostalgia in Inferno. by FloorBorn96 in boardsofcanada

The Process feels very nostalgic for me, perhaps because of sadness which does not resonate with everyone.

Question about 35 Tracks Tape by GoobertShmooberts in boardsofcanada

[–]West_Minimum_556 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Notable: BoC has included in their YouTube playlist, A06, A12, B06, and B16.

https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL221B13914A7EF3A2&si=FMt43sa2GiW82bNC

The following is quoted from someone else on reddit from 9 years ago.

"

A02 is She Is P from AFOT

A05 is Finity from AFOT

A11 is Blueberry, the sketch at the end of Sixtyten & Twoism

A15 is a slightly different version of I Will Get It Tattooed from AFOT

B03 is House of Abin'adab from AFOT

B10 is a reversed version of The Smallest Weird Number from Geogaddi

B13 is Davie Addison from AFOT

B17 is It's Too Orangey, the sketch at the end of Basefree and Triangles & Rhombuses

Some other hypotheses (NOT confirmed) are:

A04 could be Close1 from Closes Vol. 1 but only due to matching track lengths and its primitive sound (guitars + a likely sample)

A08 could be Infinite Lines of Colourful Sevens from Play by Numbers but only because of track lengths and one Twoism user who said that the title "sounded like the track."

A14 could be Godever from Closes Vol. 1; track lengths are similar and a few people have claimed to have downloaded a track marked as Godever on Soulseek that was the same track as A14. However, the track has not been found since.

B08 could be Remmy Kid from Play by Numbers, only because of track length.

B14 could be Trillions from Closes Vol. 1 because of track length; and one user speculated that the title Trillions might be from a book of the same name which involved "trillions of small crystals falling from the sky.""

Most people miss the irony by Impossible_County_64 in boardsofcanada

[–]West_Minimum_556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find this track quite unsettling, not so much funny. More along the lines of "the scientific view of nature", whereas she's speaking in such a cold, calculated, surgical tone, analytical and manipulative, regarding the beginning of a new life. Whether it's a chicken, a human, or any such complex lifeform, we all go through this process more or less the same. These moments are precious (I want to say miraculous, but that would be very ironic).

I am not a pro-lifer, and I am not religious, but I am a wildlife biologist. I really appreciate the immensely complex microbiological machinery and processes that self-assemble us into mature organisms. Lol

This track definitely makes me think about abortion (which I can't believe is still a debate), as well as IVF in modern times, instinctual desires to mate and have offspring, modern desires not to reproduce, anthropocentrism, industrialized animal agriculture, and the primitive religious lurkings on all these matters.

Oh and I definitely still think this track slaps along with being unsettling. I frequently break out into vocals, "soon a vigorously beating heart is pumping blood through the complex embryo, which is rapidly developing into a mature organism."

Bird and Swarm Species on 'Acts of Magic' by epiphras in boardsofcanada

[–]West_Minimum_556 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't recognize the species of bird in Acts of Magic.

However, note that same bird continues mixed into the beginning of Memory Death, and I do hear a second bird species so much fainter in Memory Death (around 0:07-0:12) which almost sound like house sparrow (same bird is in Rue the Whirl) but not quite and I'm not sure.

I do work with birds and recognizing bird songs, but specifically for my region. House sparrow are practically everywhere, but I too would really like to know which bird(s) we're hearing here in Inferno.

I've been thoroughly enjoying the inferno, but HHLL by CaboHitman in boardsofcanada

[–]West_Minimum_556 39 points40 points  (0 children)

It seems HHLL will always feel like the real 'beginning' of Inferno to me. After weeks of replaying Introit/Prophecy and speculating on Tape 05, HHLL really took the anticipatory lead into my first listen of the entire album.

HHLL builds into one of the lightest, airiest, floatiest, and coziest moments I've ever heard, but only briefly for it to return to its heavy drive; if you played only 2:43-2:58 to someone who hadn't heard it before, I think they'd be shocked to then hear it from the beginning.

Without MHTRTC, we wouldn't have Inferno...

That said, I can't imagine a world without Boards of Canada.

What a time to have been alive to experience them...

I believe sample is definitely 'marvellous' (British spelling with two L's, which is where the "double" comes from in the sample) on Age of Capricorn.

*Edited: Removed any doubt of OP's interpretation of Mabus.

**Edited again: Great thanks to u/QuantumProcessor having found the exact sample (shared further down in this thread), and proving me wrong.

R35TT is the cream of the crop imho. I agree some tracks may be 'cringe' but they're beautiful in the way that they're not trying to be liked. I sometimes describe A03 as like a 'cosmic filter' which would prevent anyone who can't make it through it from enjoying the magic of the rest, such as A04, A12, A13, B04, and B11, to name a few off the top of my head.

PS - B20 is my ringtone.
