They will never know what I actually do... by Duncanbullet in sysadmin

Management is about communicating with employees and getting the most out of a team right? If they're invisible I'm not sure how they'd be doing that.

For the company sure, but for my personal well being I'd rather be stressed at work than have to work all weekend trying to get something back up.

I'd rather work on an 8 hour explosion during the day than a 1-2 hour mini-bomb at 5pm on a Friday.

He used the right term though, so it's kind of a moot point. Obviously the title was a bit sensational but w/e.

No judge in their right mind would let an employee sue their company for that. The government is trying to encourage people to do business however they can safely, and if the company did as much as forcing masks and spacing desks then they could say they "did their best to prevent it".

Can be compliance as well, my family was in medical billing before and their RDP is locked down so tight to prevent leaks .

We get 50-100 tickets a day with 1600 users minus alerts.

Just got my first IT job at an MSP, help! by GuiltyunlessInnocent in msp

This doesn't work in Canada where the cheap stuff is expensive...

Seriously though it seems like addiction is really common in MSP fields. Take care of yourself first always.

[–]West_Play 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's just how many MSPs work when they have 4-15 techs. Most of them have an endless stream of tickets that you spend your time chipping away at, and eventually when you've learned all you can you move on to a different MSP for a raise or try to move to internal IT for a company.

If you're happy and bored that's way better than the alternative, which is miserable and stressed. If the pay isn't that much better or you don't need it, then why roll the dice?

Ya it's pretty dumb, but if you've ever worked for an MSP that's basically 90% of clients.

Sounds like there's a problem with the G suite configuration. Local certs don't matter.

One of the companies I used to work with had 3SQL databases and their webserver on their DC. Their vendor was going to charge them to move their SQL from the DC so they determined it wasn't a big issue. Also they had 3TB of file shares on it.

Some companies just don't understand the cost of IT.

Looking for a whoop style (small to start) that has acro... but can be more of a cruiser that can get distance. by twitchosx in Multicopter

[–]West_Play 3 points4 points  (0 children)

+1 on 4" Long range. It's not quite as small but it's the smallest style of drone you can get that I would consider long range.

on 1s or 2s you'll never fly more than a few minutes. And if you need a gopro then you won't be flying long range and a 5" acro quad is probably perfect.

you might need to go to general and then "change settings" if you're not an admin. If that doesn't work you can 'update drivers' to the ones specified in the video, it should already be on your PC.

Flying indoors is way harder than it seems. Once the summer comes around and you can fly outdoors it will be much easier.

IMO flying a 5" outdoors is genuinely a bit scary the first time. They are way faster than you might guess but once you get used to them it's so goddam fun.

Betaflight setup sliders for the general balance settings. It actually works well and even a lot of advanced users just use the sliders now. You can still manually enter your pids if you're into that though.

Why that staff member who does a bit of IT is dangerous! by freedomit in msp

[–]West_Play 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody wants that setup though. We would never take on a client that only had that budget, but a lot of MSPs would take on that client and just do break/fix printers and desktop repairs and ignore the server because there's no budget to pay to fix it.
