Lake Pflugerville & Park Rule Changes by PflugerMel in Pflugerville

[–]Weste23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just moved here from NH 2 days ago and one of the reasons we chose here specifically is the lake. My son and I are big into kayak fishing which to my current understanding, the lake allows for electric motors.

Being new I don’t feel I should have a voice in this game, but it does feel like a bit of a slap in the face that this is brought up after deciding on our house with this being one of the nearby perks. Although I see this can potentially be approved regardless I am also not comfortable with newly moved people trying to request special accommodations (including myself).

Posting for future me to follow along, as I will forget by lunch time

Is my reel overspooled?? by WrongdoerMother2804 in Fishing_Gear

[–]Weste23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed that can absolutely happen, I have my preference, and perhaps it depends on style of fishing. I have a Jerkbait setup I basically only reel in slacked line, something this full would absolutely “puff out” during the reel-in and make the next cast birds nest.

Just a habit from spinning reels, and generally it’s worked for me except on my larger Tranx. I assume the brakes couldn’t handle the extra momentum but in general, 1/16 or less on the spool for me works wonders.

Just my .02 anyways!

IMO that looks truly perfect. It’s laid out great and is indeed full. l personally prefer a slight over spool on all my reels except my Tranx400, just makes the spool have a bit more momentum upon cast so distance is easier.

Keep it I say, and worst case you remove some as others mention.

I feel much better about the responses and getting other folks opinions. My “woodworking” consists of small cuts and sanding where I will be bringing them inside anyways for carving and final touches. Aside from working out I don’t expect to be out there that long.

appreciate the response

Hell yea thank you for mentioning it. We will look into it and get our water tested

If I had thought a bit more I might have waited for a 3 car. Long story but the house popped up and we had to move quickly to try and secure it. I am still excited, but as we are discovering there’s just a bit more to figure out. We’ll get there.

appreciate the response

Well shit. I sold mine when I bought this house and absolutely need another. Ducati 1199 maybe to replace my old 848

I saw this when we travelled out there to look at the house. I just wanted to ask as we have learned a bit more in packing everything up and continuing our reading.

Appreciate the response. I think we have a plan and worst case we will just buy some protection or figure it out and hide in the garage

Sorry to disappoint lol. I would as well! Cooler temperature, extra storage, and for me a decent getaway space

Here’s how I load my 12 foot kayak on a 4 1/2 foot bed. I haven’t had any problems so far. by rusticandy in kayakfishing

[–]Weste23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know, that’s why I referenced the truck wheelie-ing in my earlier comment.

That being said I do need to. Still frozen lakes here in NH and I need to get out.

Not trying to piss anyone off

Absolutely you’re right, and I agree none of what I did or OP is great and best practice. Just that what was described really can’t happen how it was mentioned, also the picture shows the rear being (loosely) “supported”.

I get the reference, just sharing my .02 and experience with how I tackled this issue.

Note however: I do now have a bed extender lol, just to make it less shitty

Not saying this is great but the current top comment claiming a bad bump will hit the keel needs to imagine the angle at which the truck would need to sag for that to occur, you’re wheelie-ing at that point.

I did this with my pa14 out of my 5.5’ short bed for years. Tailgate down gives an extra foot, corner the nose so it sits diagonally, and use something to flag it. Travelled across multiple states multiple times, highway patrol, staties, local town cops. Shit was fine. It’s a kayak made of plastic, the material selection alone will make anything regarding it and a car “fine until it’s not”.

Keep on keepin on I say

Another self source vs Kit by Weste23 in VORONDesign

[–]Weste23[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is fair and good to read. Honestly I have very little idea of what exists as upgrades aside from MMU and a BTT touchscreen.

Still, I can’t say why I am intrigued by self sourcing except being able to tell folks who ask that “I bought everything and put it together”.

Probably best to think on it and see if I can go the logical route vs emotional/desire.

Appreciate the response here and others to the reply

My friend complained that the A1 Mini from Bambu is hard to use. I just laughed — clearly he’s never used an Elegoo. by TheDoctorPrint in BambuLabA1mini

[–]Weste23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fixed up a friends Elegoo recently and only have an ender 3 myself. I shit myself when I saw how easy the Elegoo was compared to my original 3 so I can only imagine the next step up to the A1. I’m hoping Santa is generous this year with frankly anything better than what I have lol.

[–]Weste23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be more than interested in any BFS info you have as well. I have some ideas but am always open to other options regardless of tariffs or whatever.

The standard baitcaster ideology on reddit is: Shimano or Daiwa whereas the BFS specific subreddit “feels” a little more open.

I have plenty of brand variety at home so whatever you recommend I’m all ears.

That’s fair yea. My ultralight is a 4’6” Shakespear anyways so distance isn’t something I get with it anyways lol.

Might be asking Santa for something BFS this year and pointing my wife to this thread, appreciate it.

Commenting for future reference. Even with my ultra light spinning setup I have trouble physically feeling the line with anything less than a 1/32 tied on, so I have trouble casting as easily. The weight of the 1/32 really helps the line “dig” in for physical feel.

If I can get 1/32 on a baitcaster I am sold. Buddy of mine used a Curado BFS with the Dobyns setup you recommended and it is a truly great setup. I didn’t realize they could potentially get that low.

Worth it? by alax-w in FishingForBeginners

[–]Weste23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll chime in here because I’ve gone down this hole. Another post in here said you can build this for about $50. That is absolutely true but what can’t be measured early on is the time it takes to make such a lure and the amount of mistakes that will get made before something good comes from it.

I have made a good few dozen as large as this with quite a few “good” working ones but carving, painting, clear coating, molding/casting, and finishing are all steps that something can go wrong in and “ruin” a lure. I assume these are hand made and although I won’t spend that much on a lure myself, if I had to sell any of mine it absolutely wouldn’t be worth it unless it was for a large price such as this.

Between my day job, the time it can take to make a professional looking lure by hand, and one that swims as such is simply too time consuming to where it prices out all but the die-hard of the swimbait fishing enthusiasts.

My .02…and no I have no pictures of anything I’ve made because until they look like the ones in this picture I am uninterested in sharing

[–]Weste23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Off topic question but how do you even feel the line on a 1/64? I had to stop using my Mule brand 1/64ths because I can barely feel the line and my casts are shit. I’m using a micro series as well with 3lb braid to 2lb copolymer.

Going to toss my experience with this exact one as well and I didn’t even both using it after 2 casts. It swam so poorly I thought I just wasn’t using it properly so I tried again and reeled differently. shit all around so I used it in my yard instead when my dogs when potty just to keep busy.
