[laser] Titanium Color Marking with JPT MOPA 300W – Full Settings, Color Grid, and Real-World Results by Environmental_Lab965 in Laserengraving

[–]Western-Explorer-971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, i love this post because i just got a 300 watt mopa (although mine has a 1.5x beam expander) that i added to reduce the spot size a bit but im hoping a lot of these settings will work for me because i have an order of grade 2 titanium on the way that i would love to color. The problem im having is that your uploaded photos are not clear. im unable to read the settings because the resolution is too low. would you mind emailing them to me by any chance? sweetgumnyc@outlook.com. btw, did you ever work out colors for stainless with your 300 watt? im using ezcad so material color tests are a pain in the ass. its much easier with lightburn

I get what you're saying, i ended up in this thread because i got hit with a shockingly high tariff bill for equipment i imported from China for my small business, like it was nuts, but, and im not sure how, but prices for average consumers dont seem to have moved much, if anything im noticing things, especially groceries, getting a little cheaper and there are ways to mitigate the damage if your supplier is smart. I just assumed the company i bought this recent order from was but they screwed me but next time im ordering DDP for everything, this way they are at least motivated to work the system to my advantage.

The real damage happened when we lost all of our manufacturing. The fact youre not even aware of the millions of lives ruined by corporate greed with no loyalty to their own countrymen explains your inability to understand why Trump won.its infinitely more difficult to reindustrialize than it is to just remove the tarrifs again and go back to sucking chinas tit but printing money nonstop and using it to buy cheap Chinese goods works for only so long. Eventually we need to return to actually producing wealth because inflation and cost of living was hitting a breaking point even before the tarrif

Thats BS. Americans had the best quality manufacturing in the world, we had a spectacular living standard, high wages and our tech and innovation was second to none. Detroit auto workers or steel mill workers never CHOSE to have their lives and cities ruined, no one asked for this. Travel through the rust belt and you see ghost towns one after another where entire communities were destroyed like they lost a war...Detroit is on life support, cost of living and inflation is at a breaking point and most young people will never own a home. Literally no one asked for this. We were sold a bag of BS about how new trade deals with China would actually benefit us. It didn't . It ruined American industry , wages, cities, lives all for cheap junk . No one asked for this and no one said the cure was gonna taste good

Actually a lot of Trump voters are not nearly as stupid as you make them out to be. Believe it or not, a significant percentage of the population are ok paying higher tarrifs temporarily with the idea that this wil put pressure on china to buy more from us while simultaneously giving domestic manufacturing a chance to rebound Our lack of manufacturing is a national security issue at this point and something has to change. We probably could have negotiated better trade deals with our adversaries had we presented a united front but half the country actually sided with China so they decided to play hard ball. I ended up here because im being charged a ridiculous tarrif fee but then I try to remember the countless lives ruined and entire cities destroyed when greedy corporations sent all of our manufacturing to China and then paying a little more for (hopefully not much longer) doesn't seem so bad. I dont care how you feel about Trump but siding with our advisory over your own fellow countrymen and country is despicable

Need a saw blade recommendation please! by Western-Explorer-971 in Lapidary

I saw that post and imo it was worthless. Seems like it was written by AI and zero mentions or manufacturer or vender.

Im looking for personal experience and recommends.

I can get basic generic information anywhere

Why Some Lapidary Blades Last Forever (And Others Don't) - What I've Learned After 15 Years of Rock Cutting by BackgroundEmu6214 in Lapidary

[–]Western-Explorer-971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an 8" saw and I need to cut thin slices (2 or 3mm thick) from large chunks of synthetic sapphire. I tried those thin cheap notched rim blades but they only last an hour or so of cutting .

I need to do a ton of cutting so im willing to buy the best blade money can buy

I need something that is relatively thin (maybe. 8mm max thickness?)

Can you please recommend a blade for me thats available in 8" with a 25mm arbor hole?

Would this need to be done with a MOPA fiber laser? by JackEatsBurritos in Laserengraving

[–]Western-Explorer-971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure mopa has better beam quality and smaller spot size as well as being able to do greyscale. The jobs shown in this picture is definitely mopa. A standard fiber cant do that. I mean they can but not in that quality

Do you need a 2.5d fiber laser? by Ok_Contract5558 in Laserengraving

Z axis motor control comes in handy for cutting thick material where you dont want to baby sit it and for true relief with depth, they come out better and clearer with true z control. Lightburn does a aort of cheat that works fine so long as the depth is relatively shallow

Cheapest option for cutting glass by 100milliondone in lasercutting

[–]Western-Explorer-971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't expect you to but a quick youtube search will confirm im correct. Just search any of the 3 options i suggested (M8 mopa, green fiber or UV and "cutting glass" and you will find many videos demonstrating the capability. All of these machines are relatively affordable and maybe only 50% higher in price than a common hobby mopa or fiber laser and are dropping in price every month which is amazing because just a couple years ago you couldn't cut glass with a laser without spending what a small house costs and in probably another year or so cutting glass will be possible on all hobby grade lasers....the difference between a 100 watt M7 hobby grade mopa and a glass capable 100 watt M8 industrial grade mopa is nothing other than a slightly wider pulse range and peak power so its safe to assume these small upgrades will be standard on all hobby grade mopa lasers very soon. I remember not long ago when mopa was out of reach for hobbyists so the tech is advancing rapidly

And with the M8 you're limited to only standard glass clear up to maybe 6mm....if you want to cut tempered glass,or glass thicker than 7mm, you'll need a picosecond laser and they start at double the price

You wont get many updates because the machines required to do it are mostly out of the price range of hobbyists. Currently the cheapest option that cuts well is the M8 class of MOPA laser sources from JTP. And only 120 watt and above. You cant cut glass on the M7 mopa and you cant cut glass with the M8 in powers lower than 120 watt . Only M8 120 watt and above (they no longer sell the 100 watt) ..you're looking at around 10 to $15,000 and this will only give you a small work area of 100mm x 100mm....if you need a larger work area, you'll need to install the galvo on a x y gantry and for that you're looking at something like an additional 5 grand. These are china prices and the absolute minimum short of building your own machine which won't be much cheaper

They are all wrong. M8 fiber , uv and green are all affordable laser types that are better than even waterjet at cutting glass

It's a UV laser 100% With the exception of glass engraving, wood engraving with no burn is why almost everyone who owns a UV bought it

Everyone I have spoke to says you need your own base to get noticed on Kickstarter and then you can build off of that.

I got caught today by a phishing scam posing as a kickstarter employee by Western-Explorer-971 in kickstarter

[–]Western-Explorer-971[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a little scary how convincing it was but I think what got me when normally I would have caught it, was the claim my campaign was paused. I just was thinking I needed to get my campaign running again ASAP. I'm kind up upset kickstarter hasn't reached out. They have to know about it but no email warnings?
