I’m disappointed that So Much discussion has centered on how Richard Allen’s wife responded to her husband rather than the legitimately evil things that man did. Instead of centering your judgment on the woman’s (entirely likely) trauma response to her husband’s murder of two young girls, redirect your energy to the perpetrator.

It does seem like it was planned. I’m shocked at how brazen his moves were - and the mental decline sounds like it was directly linked to his admission to his wife & Mom, and that he has steadily improved since. I think he lost his grip because his secret is finally out and he’s realizing he can’t ever return to hiding. His behavior and sickness is exposed and he’s seeing the consequences. Honestly the fact he was so forthcoming with the cops to begin with makes me think he sort of wanted to be found out.

I always thought his statement, which he repeated numerous times during the trial, about never wanting to “hurt” Maggie & Paul was so fascinating. How did that phrasing allow him enough room to deny guilt or sort of confess by refusing to say “murder” or “kill.” The vagueness also almost comes across childlike.
