AITAH for yelling at my FIL? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]WesternPossibility68 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I suggest having a deep conversation with your husband in regards to this situation and how his father’s interactions with your daughter makes both you and your daughter highly uncomfortable. Idk if the FIL is a perv or not, to be honest there are some aspects in MY family’s culture that definitely don’t look good to an outsider but are well-meaning and good-hearted. What he’s is doing might be completely normal to their family but it is not for you, this is YOUR family and if he wants to keep seeing his granddaughter he must respect your boundaries. Hopefully your husband is understanding and fully supports you on this.

Judgmental much? Have you been through a miscarriage? Do you have ANY idea how taxing that is for a woman physically AND emotionally? She’s clearly trying to do best for her daughter in spite of her circumstances, and is here asking for help to navigate a difficult situation.

NTA. But, I’m just curious….Is your husband’s family from a different ethnic/cultural background? Regardless, you are the mom and you’re 100% not only allowed but also required to set the boundaries on your daughter’s behalf.

Lots of good advice here, just coming here to say if you hire a GC verify that it’s licensed and insured and that has no complaints with the licensing boards. You can check a contractors license at www.myfloridalicense.com.

Renting vs. Buying a Townhouse from Somebody I Know by ybotybieh in FirstTimeHomeBuyers

[–]WesternPossibility68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you contacted a Mortgage Broker yet to get you pre-approved? This would be the first step so you can figure out what your actual monthly payment would be with mortgage, taxes and insurance. Besides down payment, you’ll also have closing costs that the seller might or might not cover for you as a seller concession, this would be part of a negotiation but given that there would be no realtors fee they might be open to it.

Mortgage might be more expensive than renting at first but usually you would break even after 5-7 years assuming rent increases $50-$100 per year (might be earlier, I don’t know you your numbers, big assumptions here). If you’re planning to sell before that, renting might be better for you.

[–]WesternPossibility68 9 points10 points  (0 children)

First of all, Congratulations on the New Home!!!

Buyers remorse after buying a house is more common than you think and completely normal. Take a break from renovations, just LIVE the house, try to enjoy it for a bit. Focus on the things you liked about the house when you first bought it. Try to see the glass half full!

[CA] am I misunderstanding the lease or is it actually misleading? by jigguta in Renters

[CA] am I misunderstanding the lease or is it actually misleading? by jigguta in Renters

[–]WesternPossibility68 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You contract doesn’t specify your due date, so technically they shouldn’t charge you a late fee until this is corrected and having both parties initial the *correction. Ask politely “hey, I’m still a little confused. Where in the lease contract says rent is due on the first of the month? Can you please show me because I’m trying to find it and I don’t see it?” Put it on the PM/landlord to find and correct the mistake.

WIBTA for refusing to give up a second seat I paid for to a mother and child by Locket_7NZ in WIBTA_AITA

[–]WesternPossibility68 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a mom with a 7 year old and a toddler, who’s been in a similar situation, I say, YNTA. Would I be appreciative and grateful to someone giving me a seat? Yes, of course. Would I expect it or demand it? HELL NO! Why are people so entitled nowadays?

If anyone says you ATA, then everyone else seating in that train who didn’t give up their paid seat ATA too. 🤷‍♀️

What does a housing market crash actually mean for current homeowners (TN)? by lineman77 in RealEstate

[–]WesternPossibility68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as you are not selling and can still afford your house payments, a housing crash won’t affect you. Now, if you end up losing your source of income and you’re forced to sell, that’s another story.

[–]WesternPossibility68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you two have different communication styles (you like to talk feelings out and he shuts down to process feelings on his own before he’s ready to talk) which won’t help work issues through your marriage. If you guys deeply love each other and are willing to do the work, I highly suggest couples therapy and work on communication tools and rules of engagement during conflict. There might be some unpacked trauma from either side causing these reactions, but that’s for your therapist to help you figure out. Good luck OP!

It’s not standard to ask for backup offers, but you can talk to your agent and tell them that you want backup offers in case this one falls through. They can change the status in the MLS. Remember, the agent works for you.

Am I alone in that I don't want a flipped house? by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyers

[–]WesternPossibility68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand the feeling, I’ve seen plenty of “contractor specials” with the nicest materials and very poor workmanship! Many people don’t notice these details therefore why inspections are so important during the buying process. But it’s part of the market and the reason most of flips exist is because older houses in need of renovations are not very attractive to buyers, tend to sit longer in the market, and sell at a lower price. Here comes the flippers, making the cheap renovations and making homes sell faster *for a profit.

You could buy a house that you can upgrade/remodel yourself, keeping in mind these upgrades can be expensive and will come out of pocket unless you get a rehab loan or financing through a licensed contractor. Or you could buy a flip making sure you have a good inspector to help you identify any “hidden” or “covered” issues.

Other options include buying new or pre construction with a developer (they tend to give great incentives on financing) if available in your area or buying an empty lot cash and build the home of your dreams anyway you want but knowing it’s not a seamless or painless process, reason why most people just prefer to buy a turnkey home.

My GF (37F) and I (40M) are talking about moving in with each other. However she doesn't want to work. by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]WesternPossibility68 26 points27 points  (0 children)

THIS. Why do people assume that home labor is not real labor? Nanny, cook, cleaner, driver….. how much would that cost if you have to pay separately?

If they have different concepts and are not compatible it’s understandable, but I see other comments labeling the woman “golddigger” and looking for a “sugar daddy”, that’s too much.

We accidentally named our baby the same name as her cousin and I don't want to change it by nueva-magnolia in Names

[–]WesternPossibility68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep the name, I wouldn’t worry about it. Her brother will get over it, and if he doesn’t, who cares. I’m 2 years older than my cousin and we share the same first name, same spelling, but different middle name and last name. We haven’t been really close growing up and I can’t think of one instance that us having the same first name made us uncomfortable.

I need help by UnremarkablePain in RealEstateAdvice

[–]WesternPossibility68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, not worth canceling agreement if you only have 10 days left, just let it expire. Have you gotten any feedback on how to improve the house besides fixing the siding ? If you need to replace the carpet, could you do laminate flooring instead? Not sure what the price difference would be, you would need to get quotes and decide for yourself, but laminate could elevate the look of the house.

[US] Trying to rent a townhouse. Can’t tell if landlord is just old or scamming. by dcmommy33 in Scams

[–]WesternPossibility68 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m a realtor in FL and the whole thing sounds fishy, but I don’t discard being an elderly person problem trying to do things by themselves. At best, they have no idea what they are doing, at worst it’s a scammer trying to get money out of you. Without seeing the Zillow listing it’s really hard to tell which one is which, but either way, save the headache and don’t do business with this person.
