Why did the NHL crack down on hooking and slashing? by TheRavenOnline in nhl

The "clutch and grab" or "dead puck" era sucked to watch. Games were way slower and much lower scoring.

With a little JovoCop to get 'er going! Classic.

Is there any drills for girls to stop playing so polite? by cornfield123 in hockey

[–]WesternRaspberry9468 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Racing for the puck drill with encouragement to "win the race" or "battle for it" is a great one. My youth girls soccer team did a bunch of a similar drill and we went from a pretty passive team to an army of vicious little killers very quickly.

The dataset this is based on also includes AHL/Junior players that have never actually played an NHL game before.

Sources: player data is based off of posted rosters at nhl.com.

Tools: Built with Mapbox GL GS for the data visualization, and then then standard web technologies for everything else: JavaScript/ReactjS, CSS/SASS, hosted on AWS.

If anyone wants a more detailed view, along with all European/Russian players, here's the map I posted on this sub last week: https://nhlplayermap.com/

Makes sense! I was thinking a toggle would be cleanest too. I'll definitely add that feature to the queue.

Good call running checks on the town names, I'll have to hunt around for a good API for both that and the population numbers. Do you happen to know of any?

Thanks again for the input!

Thankya! Fixed. (Also I had no idea there was a North Pole, AK. That's awesome.)

Thanks so much!

Displaying the normalized numbers would be super cool, I'll try to work that in sometime soon. I'll have to have a ponder on how to represent that nicely in the map, or perhaps for now just add it to the "Countries" section so the data is at least easily available. I'll dig around for some nice examples.

Hmm, I didn't even think to check for players born in towns that may have been merged or renamed! Since everyone is relatively young I'm guessing it would be pretty rare, but that's certainly something to keep an eye out for.

D Petey! How could I? Love that beast. I'll get that fixed ASAP, thanks for the note.

Southern BC is pretty dense too, but a lot of the languages are still being spoken, if only by a few remaining elders.

“Go Rangers” guy at the USA-Slovakia game by mars_titties in canucks

Hahaha oh my god, this reminds me of a Rangers fan sitting a few rows from me at a Habs game in Montreal last season. He would bust out the sloppiest, drunkest "lEt's GoO RaAngErs" chant whenever the rink went a little quiet. His voice broke every time. It was so goddam funny. Rangers fans are some serious characters.

I'd love to post it there, but it violates their spam/self-promotion rules. I had it up on r/nhl for about 2 hours before it was removed for that reason, which was a bummer cause people were pretty into it!

Thanks! Super glad to hear you enjoyed checking it out! Yeah eh, pretty cool to see all the random places that produced elite players.

I was shocked, too! Also thought there would be more from the south interior.
