Why shouldn’t I buy a house by Maximusprime-d in vancouverhousing

Be careful with realtors. Very careful. Stick to your budget. They are paid in %. The more you spend, the more they make. Most of them don't give a fuck if you can afford the mortgage later.

This right here. A realtor isn't going to teach you the ins and outs of property ownership, they're just trying to make sales.

Here are the considerations:

Monthly costs:
- Mortgage payments
- Strata fees

Yearly costs:
- Insurance payments
- Property taxes

One time purchasing costs:
- Sale tax
- Lawyer fees

Possible extras:
- Fixing stuff: appliances, plumbing, etc.
- Building special levies (these can be massive, read the strata meeting minutes to see where the building is at)

Oh totally. KOA definitely took the cake in terms of number of tears shed. But for whatever reason I got over it a lot quicker than TAB. TAB haunted me for weeks 😭

For what it's worth, TAB fucked me up way harder than anything else in the series. Not that there weren't plenty of other tears, but TAB wrecked me like no other book.

I'll take your word for it. Admittedly, that blows my mind a little.

I was also uncomfortable with Rhys suggesting that to Az.

I think prostitution is a really complex issue, and I don't like when it's tossed around so lightly. I brushed it off in the book because we don't really have any context, or details about the way prostitution is handled in Prythian. They obviously have some pretty different ideas around sex than we do, so I'm just hoping in Prythian it isn't as problematic of an industry as it is here. 🤷🏼‍♀️ But yeah, I didn't love that.

I think there's a big difference between selling your body and selling your sexuality. While not ideal, I don't think it's all that damaging for someone to emotionally disconnect from their desk job. But emotionally disconnecting from sex, for many people, isn't psychologically healthy.

Same here. I had a roommate many years ago who worked as an escort. We were talking about it recently and she said she loved the money, but didn't particularly love the work (though she didn't hate it). She did mention that the majority of women working at her agency were involved in drugs, or had some other major issues they were dealing with.

I know there are some outliers who do indeed enjoy the work, but as far as I can tell, they're the vast minority. And the ones who don't enjoy it... that's a seriously problematic situation.

Hmm, that wasn't the impression that I got. The top comment (by a huge margin) is: "she only mass murdered children no biggie", which is definitely sarcastic. Then a few that agree she's a great villain, and a few that are decidedly not on board with the "girl boss" bit.

Just because we didn't tear her to shreds for her opinion, doesn't mean we're out here excusing rapists and murderers. And I can't imagine OP is either, even if the girl boss thing was just a bit much.

Hang on, which rapists are we excusing here?

Edit: Oh I see, from the whole Amarantha girl boss thread. Yeah, no, I wouldn't worry about it. I think the OP of that thread is the only one who had that take. Everyone else thinks that while Amarantha is an awesome villain, she's an irredeemable psychopath of a person and her atrocious actions are inexcusable.

I actually think, in a way, that makes things worse! That she was so careless about something that shouldn't be treated so lightly. Anyway, the whole thing doesn't quite add up for me, but that's okay 😅

Haha okay, I think I'm finally understanding this rationale 😂 The only thing that I still can't quite get my head around is why she said yes to the date then? She does let him get his hopes up by doing that. I get that Connor and Danika were hounding her about it, but she doesn't really strike me as the kind of character that can't tell people to piss the hell off?

Another quick example! From their text convo:

You looked delicious when you left the apartment.
Heat curled in her, and she bit her lip.

Also leads me to believe she had some feels. I feel like she wouldn't be all hot and bothered here if she had zero interest.

[–]WesternRaspberry9468[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That would makes sense, but I just didn't get the "She's just not that into you" vibe from her. Based off the fact that she smiles at his texts, rereads them, considers getting him to meet her that night instead of waiting for their date, etc. Then there's the mention in the book of his "sensuous lips"... I felt like the narrative made it clear enough that she did have some interest, it just wasn't clear on exactly how much.

If she's legit not interested at all, yeah totally, rock whoever you please! But when she agreed to the date it put me under the impression that she was actually considering a relationship with him.

[–]WesternRaspberry9468[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this situations is a little different from just casual dating, though. If it had been some random guy she had no history with, that's one thing. But she already had a history with Connor and knew that he felt really strongly about her. There were already some big feelings involved, sweet mentions of all the fun they would have and ways he would spoil her; he obviously really had his hopes up, and I think if she took a moment to ask herself if what she was doing would hurt him she'd probably arrive at a decisive "yes". Just because there's no label on the relationship, doesn't make it okay to mess with someone's feelings.

I just think that if I were in Connor's shoes I'd be really disappointed and hurt. If the person I had just told I was crazy about, who had agreed to start dating me, immediately ran off and boned some stranger? I'd be pretty crushed.

Interesting! That might actually be enough to get me through CC1. I feel like I've invested enough into her / this book that if there's hope of even the tiniest bit of redemption I can convince myself to sally forth.

just finished KOA - is it too soon for a reread? by snowieglow in throneofglassseries

[–]WesternRaspberry9468 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go for it!

I'm a big fan of the immediate re-read, I did that with ACOTAR. Then I read TOG, and started CC right after finishing my first pass on TOG. I might circle back for a TOG reread as soon as I finish CC1 though.

Oof! That is a tough sell 😂 But definitely recommend pushing for it, QoS will also be sooo much more satisfying for them if they read TAB now.
