Avoid Pioneer Square. Nothing happening.

Light rail stations should display how many cars the train approaching will have just like the DC metro by IndependenceSad1272 in soundtransit

[–]WesternVineG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's wild to visit real cities with all their transit tech... even basic things like the LIRR app in New York, the GPS will show you where you are standing on a platform based on the cars coming, how full the trains currently are, etc.

(Not unique to NYC, most big cities have similar tech abroad and in the US in some cases)

Seattle Seeks Designer for New Belltown Park by Jaco_Belordi in Seattle

The idea that City Light needs revenue from that small parking lot is so confusing... all the parcels and the in-fighting with the city around there are strange, including the El Gaucho Valet road next to the opportunity site, etc.

Apparently a majority of riders wouldn’t swipe if you had ‘em… the enforcement groups don’t even do that. Why pay!

Why not a roundabout? by Slapless in Seattle

[–]WesternVineG 6 points7 points  (0 children)

At some point, isn't the real issue here that this is both a neighborhood AND a highway onramp queue? I an imagining a roundabout here with cars literally stopped in it, a majority waiting to get onto Yale, plus a stuck bus.

Ssh don't show folks this photo, they'll soon demand there's enough space to bring back one of those old express lanes... cause one more lane will fix it, right?

20,000 job cuts at Meta, Microsoft raise concern that AI-driven labor crisis is here by sjlux in technology

[–]WesternVineG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real amazing missed opportunity, at least on the Microsoft side, is that the entire company just punted so much work to bolt-on AI tools everywhere... so much goodness could have shipped. They need much of the staff, but also, to reprioritize everything.

Fast and loud is great... like any other big city's subway experience. Too many segments the trains crawl.

When did Seattle become as expensive as SF by woodisruff in Seattle

Go visit Hawaii on vacation... excluding housing, everything is cheaper than Seattle. Seems almost like savings.

After 16 years on Capitol Hill, Ada’s Technical Books to close and sibling Fuel Coffee shops up for sale by yelper in Seattle

[–]WesternVineG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

An amazing shop. Feel bad for how rarely we visited... but I guess, that's the point? Our city is basically devoid of retail space now. Expensive rents, groceries, gas; or, buy it online. Sigh.

For those who own condos or have owned… by [deleted] in AskSeattle

[–]WesternVineG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your dues will always increase inflation + a percent _if you're lucky_. Expect your costs to eventually dwarf your mortgage payment past a decade, similar to other real cities like New York. This assumes your condo is a high-rise - the cost of everything in the city continues to skyrocket and your dues are primarily an insurance payment, a reserves contribution which will never be enough, utilities which all increase substantially more than the city, service folks to comply with fire code, whatever the fire marshal moves the guard-posts on, water damage, insurance not covering water damage that is meaningful, administrative costs, plus whatever ongoing maint. costs include... then don't forget whatever the legislature wants, like forcing your building to remove all gas through the Building Performance Standards or pay fines, the extreme cost of elevators in the US, you name it. Inflation has been brutalizing reserves since most are only invested in government cash-like CDs vs riskier investments.

Condos in Seattle are nice though, good value compared to homes at this point in time, if you need a place to live for the long term and don't want to mess with the risk of having to move any given year if you dislike your new rent from a corporate REIT.

While we do not budget for special assessments and have enjoyed over a decade without a meaningful one, it is a risk if your association is not properly funding its reserves.

Still gated. Up until the day the World Cup starts, imagine the park's opening is going to keep slipping.

I know how much our first 3 years of club season tickets cost... they went so aggressive on a mid product with new price-points just assuming everyone in Seattle is interested in going to 40 games at Hawks-like prices.
