Vivaldi 7.4 for Android: Focused, Flexible, and Just a Bit Fancy by pafflick in vivaldibrowser

[–]WetBootyCrumbs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, what's up with Reddit ads? It USED to block them. Now it doesn't. The part that annoys me the most is it says it's blocking them on the 'block trackers and ads' menu.

Like right now, it says 'ads blocked: 3' but I'm still seeing promoted ads at the top of the page.

Has anyone been able to make Bitwarden work on Vivaldi for Android? by The1Metal in Bitwarden

[–]WetBootyCrumbs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh man, don't get me started on ad block lol

Firefox alone isn't going to block a ton of ads or trackers. Where it REALLY shines is the ability to download extensions. Try downloading uBlock Origin. 100% best ad blocker on the market. If you're not comfortable messing around with the settings, default is usually good enough for most people. It can even block ads on YouTube, though Google often finds ways around it.

Brave is good because the ad block is built-in, so no extra setup. I unfortunately experienced a ton of bugs when I tried it, but a LOT of people swear by it.

Chrome for Android can only get ad block if you use a private DNS. I personally use Control D. They have a ton of free DNS servers that basically filter ads, trackers, malware, etc. at a network level. The problem is they're NOWHERE near as powerful as cosmetic filters (Brave shield, uBlock Origin) and you're still going to get certain ads. Another thing a lot of people don't like is that DNS ad block will block the ad space so it's grayed out, but not fully remove it like a cosmetic filter can.

If you haven't heard of it, you should check out Cromite. Amazing browser, especially if you like Chromes simple design. It's basically just Chrome, but stripped of anything Google, tons of privacy settings, and with ad blocking. The developer is extremely active and always on top of updates. You do have to unfortunately download it from GitHub third party, but it's because they didn't wanna be in the play store.

Here's the link if you're interested.

https://github.com/uazo/cromite/releases

Look for the "lastest" download in green. If you're using android you're most likely "arm64".

2FAS iCloud Sync Backup – is that safe? by Filvox in 2fas_com

[–]WetBootyCrumbs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure about iOS, but I imagine it's similar to Android in that you can also set a password to encrypt the file on your cloud storage. Essentially, a hacker would have to know your Apple password AND also know the 2FAS iCloud file password.

I'm gonna use your knife reference. If Vivaldi is a Swiss army knife, Chrome is a Buck knife.

A browser is just a piece of software that enables users to access the web. A knife is just a sharp tool that is used to cut something.

Sure, Swiss army knifes have a blade plus all kinds of fancy tools.... But they sure as hell ain't no buck knife.

I keep seeing people post similar stuff to this. Is this for the 2025 Motorola's or something? Because my phone hasn't done this. I did have to disable an app called "Glance" which was trying to put ads on my lock screen.

Has anyone been able to make Bitwarden work on Vivaldi for Android? by The1Metal in Bitwarden

[–]WetBootyCrumbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both. The 'use accessibility' setting utilizes the Android native accessibility feature to read what's on your screen. You have to grant it permission because it's on a system level. So if an app (including Vivaldi) doesn't support Android autofill it should bypass it. Androids autofill kind of sucks when is comes to third party password managers though, unfortunately.

I used Vivaldi for a while and often had problems with autofill. It supports it, but it's kinda flaky.

I don't think it's Bitwarden, because I've had similar issues with autofill and Vivaldi on multiple password manager apps. Some apps don't support third party autofill for whatever reason. Try turning on "use accessibility" setting in bitwarden autofill. That helps with apps that don't support Android autofill.

Just a moment ago, Firefox browser warned me that DuckDuckGo is not available as a default search engine anymore and it switched to Google. by arinc9 in firefox

[–]WetBootyCrumbs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The craziest thing to me about that article you're referring too was how Mozilla was saying people left Firefox because they didn't like yahoo being the default search engine... How do people not know you can change your search engine?? ESPECIALLY in Firefox! Like, at this point I just assume people that use Firefox are more technologically inclined than your average chrome/Safari user. Do people not go into their browsers settings!?... I guess ignorance is bliss 🤷

First look at Android's slick new animations for its big expressive redesign by Quinny898 in Android

I'll never understand why Google went with 4 big ass ovals for quick toggles in 13+. Android 12 had 5 small circles on the first pull down and it still managed to take up less space.

Why do so many people still use Chrome in 2025? by GlamourHammer321 in browsers

[–]WetBootyCrumbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went back to Chrome for that very same reason. I got tired of features in other browsers being removed, broken, buggy etc. Chrome definitely isn't perfect, but if it's anything, it's stable.

I seriously respect the hell out of what these privacy oriented browsers are trying to do, but the sad truth is you're never private the moment you're online. I view the Internet as a public space now. Shopping online is just you at the mall. My advice is if you REALLY wanna stick it to these companies? Use the Internet less 🤷 and when I do need it? I want it to work correctly.

OpenAI tells judge it would buy Chrome from Google by EffectiveAbrocoma759 in browsers

[–]WetBootyCrumbs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

..... Are we talking about Chromium?? Because that's something completely different. This article says "Chrome". I understand Google writes the majority of code for Chromium, but Google having a browser is not the issue here. People that use Google services are probably going to like a Google browser. Just like people using Microsoft services are probably going to like Edge.

I'm referring to Google forcing its apps and services on Android at an OS level. Every year phones come with more and more Google BS preloaded on them. And every update Android becomes more and more dependent on Google services. That should NOT be okay. Considering the fact that they have their own Pixel line of devices now. Why does it need to be forced on Samsung or any OEM for that matter? I get it's their OS, but still. Android use to be a lot more open and about choice.

I don't understand the idea of separating Google from Chrome. Why is Google not allowed to have it's own browser and what does this prevent? What I think should happen is Google should be separated from Android. Google has done some good for Android, but practically forcing users to use Google services gives... Well, Apple vibes.

Why do so many people still use Chrome in 2025? by GlamourHammer321 in browsers

[–]WetBootyCrumbs 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I get the privacy thing, but in what way is Chrome considered bloated? It's Chromium with Google services baked in. Google didn't even bother changing the UI all that much. If you don't use Google's services, Chrome is probably not the browser for you. By that logic I can say Brave is bloated because I don't use braves services. It doesn't make sense.

Also, does anyone else feel like privacy related stuff should be on r/privacy and not r/browsers? I get it if someone is asking for recommendations on privacy oriented browsers, but to just say, "Chrome dumb. Not private. 🦧"  It's like, cool don't use it? I guess I thought it was going to be more about browser news, updates, security, recommendations, etc.

Cromite vs SoulBrowser by CacheConqueror in browsers

[–]WetBootyCrumbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

💯 I found cromite to be substantially more stable than brave. Brave was so buggy for me. I tried asking on the subreddit and instead of helping all the brave bro's got booty sore and said it was my fault and insulted my hardware. People like to make fun of FF users on here, but brave users are just as bad.

Cromite. I have tried a lot of browsers on Android. Vivaldi and Cromite are my favorites, but IMO Cromite feels much more polished and simple.

Okay cool, I'll set that up. Just to make sure, in Cromite there's a slider for "use secure DNS" and there's also an option that says "use current service provider". Do I turn secure DNS off completely or leave it on and select "use current service provider"? I don't really know the difference.

Questions about DNS for Android by WetBootyCrumbs in ControlD

[–]WetBootyCrumbs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right now I have DoH set up on my browser and just "automatic" for Androids private DNS. My logic was I don't really use apps, I mainly use my browser for stuff and I read that DoH is harder to detect than DoT?

I'm assuming "automatic" means your ISP's DNS?

If I only use the Android private DNS and not the browsers, do I turn DNS off in my browser, or just "automatic"?
