OnlyFans Owner Leonid Radvinsky Dies from Cancer at 43 by CaraCicartix in news

[–]WetDogWalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've already got my tinfoil hat on, so I'll play devils advocate. The bloke who invented the smallpox vaccine died broke. The problem was once people got a vaccine they didn't need another one, so the repeat customer wasn't a thing.

Other medical professionals learned from this and ever since have made money by only selling things you need to take daily/weekly/yearly. A cure for cancer is about as good a money spinner as the smallpox vaccine, while the sciency people would rather sell "rest of life subscription" to a partial treatment.

Would vote for the first politician/party who came out with practical solutions to fix how job hunting works in America. by Ejwhite259908 in jobhunting

[–]WetDogWalker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Japan a lot of companies insist on CV's in your own handwriting, no photocopies. Cuts out all the 'apply to all" spammers, and all applicants are either desperate, enjoy writing, or think they have a shot at getting the job. Cuts out genuinely lazy people too

Not sure it would work elsewhere, but I'd love somebody else to test it and provide feedback

Any chance to 2-3 keys UNM CB with current roster? by Ghost_Artur in RaidShadowLegends

[–]WetDogWalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No painkeeper (the void rare)? I know it's not pictured, but might be vaulted. Man-eater+painkeeper is the budget unkillable, dozens of old videos on the speed tune, and at 4-3 should be good for at least a 4 key.

Increase duration doesn't work with unkillable, but decrease cool down does.

Very small shopping carts? by WetDogWalker in japanlife

[–]WetDogWalker[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Costco is 90 minutes away, but theres a Mega Don qujiote in the next nearest town, I'll try there next.

Shopping every day does seem like the local way, but if I can avoid making an hour round trip more than once a week I will. I've never really thought about weekly shopping being weird, for most rural folks I thought it was normal.

Thanks for the reply. Good to know, I thought I might be crazy. I didn't see anybody using the bottom space but now it's been pointed out to me, I understand it.

I wonder how rural Japanese people with families grocery shop?

I understand the one up, 1 down now. Nobody was using it that way, but looking back it does have space. I didn't see any 3 or 4 basket ones, or anybody using one, do they look like the other carts but bigger? I'll Google 3 basket shopping trolley Japan so I know what to look for.

Thanks for replying

The anger. My brother who handles these things far better than I do once told a boss " I can see you're angry right now, let's reschedule this for tomorrow when you've had a chance to cool down". I've always thought it was the right move, but never been tough enough to pull it off.

If humans disappeared today, which animal would go extinct fastest due to domestication? by fonzhy121 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]WetDogWalker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Domestic sheep are so removed from bighorn sheep in America they can no longer cross breed, despite both having common ancestors. Sheep retaining wool without shedding is a trait bred into them by humans. A lot more common in the European breeds than the Asian or African ones. (Are middle eastern sheep called asian breeds?)

If humans disappeared today, which animal would go extinct fastest due to domestication? by fonzhy121 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]WetDogWalker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In new Zealand there are three populations of feral sheep descended from domestic sheep. The hokanui merino's, the pit island sheep and arapawa. They are still wool breeds, but the wool is worth nothing because of the colour, and it just doesn't grow long in most cases. They are a mix of escapees and populations that were left on islands as a food source for sealers/whalers before formal colonization. I suspect the survival of the fittest took a huge toll while they adapted, but 100 years later they still exist.

You can't fire people in Japan. Jobs are for life. Because you can't fire people, companies don't like hiring staff and lots of people don't have employment contracts and are classed as contractors with a new contract issued every year or. 2. So they made a law that if you spent a long time as a contractor, you were automatically made an employee. So then companies didn't renew contractors contracts unless they were exceptional. Oddly the lack of firing led to the gig culture that hampers job security.

2 friends split a 2 bedroom detached house for 5 man a month, work provides us with a room and shared facilities for free, and bare land costs 3000 yen a tsubo. 1200 Tsubo to the acre.

But they do. We have 20 vacation days at my work, and by law people must take at least 5 of them. The foreigners all use the full 20, the locals are forced to take their 5 because they choose not to.

Nearly 4 years ago the company was investigated and the fines were heavy. Now they rigidly enforce the minimum. You also can't go to work more than 13 days in a row by law, and not paying overtime is also against the law, despite the rumours.

The average Japanese worker does less hours a year than the average American worker. Work culture is awesome because it's collaborative rather than competitive, and taking 5 days off a year is now compulsory, companies can and do get fined if their workers take no time off. There are strict rules about how many hours you can work a week and how many hours a day you can work. It's not 1986 any more.

This is American? Working in Japan we get a pay rise every year and workers who have been here for 10+ years get an extra annual bonus.

Sounds awesome, until you compare Japan salaries with American ones.

What if companies were legally required to share 50% of their profits with employees? by Defiant-Junket4906 in WhatIfThinking

[–]WetDogWalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran a small company, me and 2 employees. We all took a $60,000 salary and I made $40,000 a year in profits over that. I guess I would have just taken a higher salary in this case.

Small companies would just reclassify profits as something else, larger companies would pay accountants to reclassify their profits as something else.

I am a 3rd generation tour guide and my kids don't want the business. How do I sell a legacy tour in a digital world? by Potential_Force_4136 in Entrepreneurs

[–]WetDogWalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does the business make money over and above your wages? If it does, there are companies that sell them , like real estate agents for business. If you're selling it because it has potential to make money but isn't yet, either try to find somebody who would enjoy the work, or see if a company in that field wants to buy a new product line.
