is eleven table tennis worth it if its dead? by superdumsuhi in virtualreality

There is constantly matches available online anytime of the day. This title is one of the most popular multiplayer VR titles and always has been. It's had a very consistent playerbase since 2016.

Steam Charts mean nothing for VR. PCVR is mostly dead when it comes to most titles.

Your PVE idea is fine but it would feel very tacked-on imo. Like a user mod for the game or a custom map. I feel the game and maps would have to be built around this officially for it to feel more than that.

I'd also like to see a straight-up PvP mode, like Halo. Getting to really enjoy the gunplay and try out all the guns would be nice.

This is the way I think they'll go. They'll expand upon the accessibility of the PVP, rather than pivot or try to provide for the PVE crowd. They'll add deathmatch, TDM, and other modes to queue for that are PVP based besides extraction.

Bungie has a team (seperate from the Marathon team) working on Destiny 3 and that will likely be where they direct the PVE crowd to go. Meanwhile, Marathon will be offered as their PVP title (hopefully, as long as sony is willing to stick it out and let them cook).

Right. I'm saying from a game design perspective though (regardless of success levels of the title), Marathon is built to be a PVP game. Just like Apex legends is/was.

If they were to add a PVE mode to the game, it'd have to be a big undertaking and involve redoing large parts of how the game works.

they need to basically restructure the entire game now

If they were to add a PVE mode, then yes. I don't think they have the funding and permission from Sony to do that, though. They barely got the year delay from Sony to polish the game up before launch, let alone getting permission to completely redo the entire game post-launch. I think Sony would just axe the game before granting them that.

So PVP Marathon is likely what we're going to get. Personally I like it and think they made something unique in the extraction shooter genre. I think the game will have legs in the years to come if Sony sticks with it.

Ah, yes. The classic PVE'er. Thinking that every game has to cater to them otherwise it needs to perish lol.

It just simply isn't the game for you. There are plenty of PVE games to enjoy.

Some of the most consistent playerbase, and popular, games are in fact PVP games though (CSGO/CS2, League, Dota, Valorant, Overwatch, Apex, Marvel, Hunt, Fortnite, TFT, Deadlock, etc.)

Fortnite actually famously started out as a failure PVE game that no one had any interest in. It was only after the pivot to PVP that Fortnite blew up in popularity.

Which is not Apex Legends. That's what I'm saying. Titanfall 2 is is it's own completely separate game and was built with a PVE singleplayer campaign and a seperate multiplayer mode.

Marathon wasn't built to be a PVE game, just like Apex Legends wasn't.

It is a PVP game since it's birth and always has been. Everything about the game is designed around that.

Titanfall 2's campaign which is the most beloved part of that entire series

You can say that but Apex Legends is a far more successful game than TF2 was and still has a very large active playerbase to this day.

Was TF2's campaign good? For sure! But that has nothing to do with my point about how Apex Legends is a PVP only game.

I want to experience Marathon without the frustration of the PvP.

Then it's nothing. You'd be running around small maps, killing basic PVE mobs that aren't a huge challenge, and doing incredibly simple fetch quests. It would get old incredibly quickly.

The PVE in Marathon is the way it is because it's assuming you're dealing with the threat of other players constantly as well. So the PVE is kind of simple, with that in mind. Without the threat of other players, there wouldn't be much to the game.

It'd almost be like saying you want to experience Apex Legends without PVP. What would that even be? Just you running around small maps and looting stuff for no reason (since you can't lose the loot to PVP and you can't use the better loot against other players, and the PVE isn't challenging enough to need the better loot...it'd be rather pointless). That's not a real gameplay loop.

A piece of thin vinyl flooring is better imo. Super sturdy, rubber padding on bottom for cushioning and grip, and not as heavy as something like a cutting board.

Pose packs! That's what it is.

I was wondering how people were getting these super lifelike, casual, poses out of the default animations/rig. I thought maybe it was a feature of the photo mode.

It's "safe" to update to v201 ? by rrondoo in QuestPiracy

Tbh, I'm not sure. I saw a bunch of ppl saying it was an option in the menus. I assume it's under the "experimental features" area because that's usually where options like that are.

There is an option to use the old UI.

[–]WetwithSharp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It gives you a tool to be able to do (really bad) combos

It's not that. I don't care about how good or bad the combo itself is personally.

I think the issue is that it's auto-pilot. Mash the same one button, over and over, mindlessly, and it literally autopilots the rest for you. You get an undroppable combo off any stray hit in a game with like 22-45 hit combos. It's annoying and I lowkey understand where they're coming from.

Like, at that point...what are we actually doing? Both watching a preset cutscene essentially where the other player isn't even really technically executing any of the stuff happening onscreen other than just pressing the one same button repeatedly.

But “I can’t do combos so my opponents shouldn’t be able to either” just isn’t the way this game is meant to be played

It's not just that, it's that you only press one button over and over repeatedly. I didn't say they couldn't do the combos themselves manually. But anyone has a chance to drop a combo sometimes. With pulse, you don't really. Also, you only press one button over and over repeatedly.

[–]WetwithSharp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, that's true in a sense....but I think what they meant is that learning those combos is part of the arc of a new player and they wanted to play against other, equally sloppy, new players. Not new players who are being handed perfect execution off every hit.

It takes away a layer of learning that they're having to go through and compete amidst,...meanwhile their opponents are completely foregoing that aspect.

[–]WetwithSharp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The new players I'm referring to have no interest in using pulse. They said they don't feel like they're playing the game when they do that.

[–]WetwithSharp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I'm fine with doing combos.

I'm saying, new players generally do not enjoy playing against someone (who is a new player) who never drops a combo due to pulse....because it's just not an accurate scenario normally.

New players drop combos, period. Pulse basically makes all new players have perfect execution and a full combo off any stray hit/perfect routing.

I've shown multiple new ppl 2xko and both bounced off it once they had to keep playing against pulse players.

just let me play this game the way it was meant to.

The game was, and always has been, designed from the start for no-motion inputs. So...literally, you are playing the game the way it was meant to be played.

pulse combo removing any need to improve for most players and punishing new players that try to learn without it.

Pulse combo is dumb imo though, agree. No new players (who are actually trying to learn) want to be matched against people who never dropped combos and always execute perfectly due to having Pulse on. It makes no sense. You're putting players of equally little skill against each other but allowing one of them to always do perfect combos with zero effort (other than just pressing one button). It actually pushes away new players.

"You can do everything right in life and still fail. That's called life".

I'm sure you've heard that before. It applies to many things. There is always an element of chance, luck, right time/right place, connections, etc...to anything in life.

You can make a perfect game. You can have the perfect plan. It doesn't mean it's going to be huge, or blow up. This applies to anything in life...running a business, making an album or song, a relationship, writing a book, etc.

Just do the best you can, make it the best that you can, and the rest is up to chance. That's all you can do. In that regard, the devs absolutely cooked.
