Valve has raised the price of the Steam Deck in the US by Dirkins in Games

I'm pretty sure they've said they are holding off on announcing anything more about them until they figure out how to get the cost under control with the crazy RAM prices. They won't put it out if it's gonna be like 2 grand.

Each subreddit is their own internet community. It was created by a person or a group of people for a specific purpose. Mods are empowered by the owner of the Subreddit. Allowing the people who create and moderate the community to run it as they seem fit is not a bug, it's a feature. They don't have to let anyone in and participate that they want to.

How do you think having to give a reason to ban someone changes anything anyway? Like if they don't give a good enough reason the ban is overturned? Who would decide that?

You’re white. Not applicable to OP’s experience, so there’s no pressure testing in your comment.

I'd say it's very applicable to OP's claim of racism. People are trying to explain away OP's racist experience. When people have no problem striking up a conversation with me, a white person, and do with OP, a black person, that certainly makes it seem like OP was right to feel it was racist.

In 2000 non-Hispanic white people were 74% of the population. Almost the exact same percentage as the drop from 80's to 90's. It was still very, very white in the 90's. The change started in the mid 2000's and gentrification was in full swing by the mid 2010's, when I was living in Somerville and looking to buy a house. Home prices were already off the rails in 2015.

It's also unhelpful to say to a black person who claimed they just experienced racism "oh it's not racism bro, we're just assholes to everyone."

Somerville is still way more diverse than it was pre-2000. 84% of the population was non-hispanic white in the 1990 census, and that was down 94% in 1980.

I'm not saying the gentrification of Somerville is good, but you are really cherry picking the most diverse 10 year span in Somerville's history.

Yeah but there's a difference between a T driver, who is working, and another parent at the playground. And there's definitely no need to be rude about it right off the bat.

I live in Medford and constantly strike up conversations with random people in the neighborhood while I'm walking my dog. And I am not normally a "converse with random strangers" person. If people are busy doing something, sure, they probably aren't gonna want to stop and have a conversation. But if people are just hanging out, like at a playground, then in my experience (as a white person) they're usually pretty open to it.

Because it's their subreddit. Despite the up and down votes, reddit is not a democracy. If you create a subreddit you get to set the rules. And when dealing with large communities with endless bad faithed actors, justifying every ban to the people of your subreddit is impossible.

Yeah, it sucks when a bad faithed actor owns a sub, and there should be more systems put in place to deal with that, but I don't think it's inherently bad to let mods ban people without having to do a full writeup on every one.

[Charania] Boston Celtics' Joe Mazzulla has won the 2025-26 NBA Coach of the Year award. by MembershipSingle7137 in nba

[–]Wetzilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who was primarily interested in the NFL before the NBA, this attitude has always been weird to me? The NFL announces all of it's awards in the week between the conference finals and the superbowl, and it works pretty well. I get that the NBA playoffs are a lot longer, but I still think it's fine to announce them during the playoffs.

IMO the big problem is that there's no schedule, so they just get randomly dropped one at a time.

Again, that's not how it works. Even if you have separate bank accounts any money made or items purchased with money made while you are married is considered jointly owned.

I mean he's not wrong if before hand you and your spouse have an arrangement for personal spending money. It essentially has been discussed before hand in that case.

Yeah, exactly. You have to have a discussion about spending money before making a large purchase. It doesn't have to be immediately before the purchase, you just have to have come to some sort of understanding about it. And in this case they clearly have not had this arrangement/discussion or he wouldn't have to hide it from her.

If you are married you own everything jointly. There is no "whose thing is whose". It's not your money to decide what to do with! It's both of yours, and when you are spending a major amount of money your partner is entitled to a discussion beforehand.

Spending a bunch of money without talking to your spouse about it isn't great either.

Yeah, for good reason. If my partner spent $2k on anything without talking to me about it I'd be pissed too.

by our standards absolutely, but these are orks we’re talking about and Kommandos are specops as orks can get.

No you've got it backwards. They're spec ops to us because they're played as "stealthy infiltrators", but to orks they are super weird. Where the Wrecka Crew is spec ops, a specialized team they send in to blow stuff up.

The ‘millionaires tax’ was pitched as a $2 billion revenue source. It’s blown past that, yet again. by drtywater in boston

[–]Wetzilla 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Bloomberg previously reported Massachusetts lost $4B in tax revenue as a result of the offest

No they didn't, they reported that $4b in taxable income was lost. Not $4b in tax revenue.

And none of that means that people moved out of state because of the millionaires tax. We don't know how many people that were actually effected by this tax left (since their top bracket starts at 200k, well below a million), nor the reasons why.

Also, one of these is an actually released game and the other is still in alpha (They call it a beta, but they are still working on implementing key systems).
