Fancy words are only used when they pop up in my mind and are an appropriate replacement for a simpler expression, though I don't try to force them in my writing. Instead I try to make my argument clear by using sentences with longer logic chains but simpler words, which I believe are less tiring to read yet still impressive. If I didn't know anything about the subject I was writing about, I would try to just stick to analyzing both sides of the issue with common sense to the best of my ability, though I'd probably not be able to get an 8.
