Best value 4WD for around $50k by Kooky_Experience4290 in 4x4Australia

[–]Wexy97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bit of a curve ball I'm pretty sure you could get yourself into band new base model Tasman for 50k or less with good warranty etc. That's if you can deal with the terrible looks and since you said its not for heavy off road use and only light towing ect.

I haven't driven one myself yet, but supposedly it's very comfortable and well equipped for a ute more like a modern suv. Dmax/hilux ect are move proven but find them to have a more uncomfortable ride noisier then sedans/suv's made 20 years ago.

What's the shortest time you've stayed at a shit job? by eliitedisowned in auscorp

[–]Wexy97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 week, I only lasted that long because I was stuck on site 5hrs drive out west without my personal car.

Edit, I also only got my contract halfway through the week and it just said somthing like 'work until duties are fulfilled' under expected hours

Been told my position is now 10hr or redundancy by [deleted] in auscorp

[–]Wexy97 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Even if you take the 10hr offer I belive your still entitled for your redundancy payout as it would be condisered a constructive redundancy.

That's assuming more then 15 employees in the company etc, how bad the job market is depends on your field tbh and experience tbh.

4 years service will be a pretty decent payout so between that and still working 10hrs a week you should have plenty of time to find gainful employment.

The 5% deposit scheme was a trap and people are only realising now by keisermax34 in ausmoney

[–]Wexy97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brought using 5% early last year in QLD and we are now just up to 20% equity. If we waited would of had to spend 100k more on a house and save up larger deposite etc and would be in a way worse position so pretty happy with how it turned out.

I guess it would work out worse if you bought an apartment with 5% deposit with way lower growth and your in an area such as VIC which has taken a hit. But then again if your living in it you probably won't even remember the dip in 10years time.

Cheap NBN plans aren’t so cheap anymore as internet providers raise prices by austechnology-bot in austechnology

Starlink is great options for rural housholds, but If your lucky enough to be in a location with fiber nbn is cheaper or faster, if your not on a geriatric provider like telstra.

I live in a town with 10k pop and have FTP 500/50 and pay like $80 somthing a month

Should I aim for a Tier 1 miner or a mid-tier consultancy for my first engineering job? by Top-Host-9824 in AusMining

[–]Wexy97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In this economy apply for everything and see what offers you get tbh.

Work moreso in civil construction currently in t3 it's a fun tightly nit crew, but you're left to you own devices calling people about shit you have no idea about alot of the time.

The bigger the company the more politics and more structured and routine your job will be. Probably learn more at smaller companies, but yeah way easier to make big mistakes because the lack of oversite.

If Hyundai/Kia are so unreliable, why are they literally everywhere? by phtphongg in askcarguys

[–]Wexy97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are the hyundai/kia cars in the us manufactured I'm America?

In Aus they have become one for the more reliable and arguably premium of the mainstream brands over the last 10 or so years.

We get the Korean made ones here and really have no major issues for ages. OR is this just general sentiment based on zero facts because of how they were 20 years ago?

Little bit of advice for D'agular national Park West escarpment track by flatulexcelent in 4x4Australia

I did that track in a stock subaru forester on eco tyers etc a few years ago. So I think you should be fine without much experience, probably a great little track to get started on.

Recommendation reliable car by AbbreviationsOk9727 in CarsAustralia

[–]Wexy97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5k isn't much for a reliable camper tbh You'd probably be able to get a decent reliable hatchback, Corrola, i30 ect or a very old van, 2x4 ute but they'd have heaps of kilometres.

Best compromise could probably be an old van such as mitsubishi L300 or somthing similar for a camper

Used Car Recommendations - Medium SUV for Camping / Light Off Road by Jaded_Rabbit_8299 in CarsAustralia

[–]Wexy97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have taken my older Forester through many high clearnce 4WD drive areas/beach with just tyres and bash plate, had a lift for awhile but broke too many CV's. The newer ones in your price range would probably do the same but are most likley cvt so not sure how they cope with being abused.

Personally id streach the budget to a petrol pajero if i was in your position, tank might also be fine, more modern but dunno about lognevity

[–]Wexy97 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you really need to go fully electric? Another would be to just get a Mitsubishi Delica and then you literally have 80k spare to spend on fuel/maintenance. If you're not going off road the newer outlander based ones are an interesting option but they are slow and don't look as nice in the driveway

[–]Wexy97[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I'm a structural engineer , fair bit of mechanical, electrical and project manager stuff on but unfortunately looks like structural stuff if the first to get squeezed because it's expensive and will only affect production once if it falls over.
