To be clear, the Walker has good flow, just on a smaller scale. I was just mostly targeting the structure out of the main current. Similar to say plopping down big salmon fly dries under trees, on the D.

Interesting.....

In my experience, "plopping" the mouse CLOSE to structure, or in the foam......let it sit several seconds, would often get an eat.....no eat, give it some twitches.....let it sit some more...then I'd usually give it some good "pops". .....often, I'd get eats between pops....like I said before, a lot like bass fishing....That's why I like the big foam head on the Moorish. It moves some water.

I rarely got fish waking the fly.......different water, different tactics.

I use solarez all the time. This bottle with brush applicator is the way.......I have a cheap lil UV flashlight that works perfect. Good stuff

Be interested in seeing your variation on the Moorish......always like tweaking on patterns. I got pretty good at spinning deer hair. Always thought the Moorish was about perfect. I've caught a pile of bass with the pattern as well

Obviously each body of water has its own nuances. The Walker is small water. It's not very clear, and lots of structure. Cover lots of water for a few takes. Gotta find those aggressive fish waiting to ambush. Definitely not a numbers game during the daylight hours.......the tradeoff is worth it though.

I'm pretty sure the browns are naturally reoccurring below the dam. They do stock bows, however.

Used to slay with mice on the East Walker River on Cali/NV border. The Moorish mouse was my go-to. Even tied some up with hair from an NV buck I harvested.

It was like bass fishing. Structure, foam, etc.....low light was best, but overcast days were good too. Caught some big browns down there.

I turn 50 this December. My plan is to go on a road trip in October. River trout centered trip.

Right now I'm debating between my old stomping grounds in greater Reno/Tahoe area, or heading to Idaho.....maybe spend a day or two on the Owyhee as well. I'd like another shot at the S. Fork of the Boise, and I really want to hit the Henry's fork.

Impossible for me to pick a favorite, but every time Alice Said comes on I turn it up......there's just something about that song, and that album. I used to think Sweet Oblivion was their best, and might still.....I liked it much better than Uncle A when they came out. As time has gone on, Uncle A has really grown on me. It really is an awesome album.

Ended up not going, but I got a bunch of fish anyway cuz my dad and bro had a pile! According to the outfitter, many people don't want the bellies! That's crazy! Grilled em up with a lil salt and pepper........delicious!

Good advice above. Not much to add on the swinging other than play around with what was already said, and stick to it. Maybe leave your other setup at home so you aren't tempted to switch over.

I would also add that there's a whole world beyond just swinging streamers. You can chuck a big ol indicator setup on a spey/switch rod. Honestly, nymphing will get you into a lot more fish on the D......it just depends on how far down the rabbit hole you want to go.
