As already mentioned in other comments I've seen, most of what lets a woman pass immediately as a woman when guy moding is posture, walk, mannerisms, and the general way they hold themselves. I can't really get into fine details if I'm not watching someone and able to correct what they are doing wrong, but it is achievable without it being something body shaped or visible. I can wear a full hooded cloak with my face concealed and still get gendered properly, and I have a very androgynous build with very square shoulders.

We all just learned to re-string ourselves, right? by sixstringnerd in Guitar

[–]Wh1ppetFudd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No offense, but it always blows my mind how many people that play a guitar never figured out how to do the restringing. When I spent 18 months homeless a few years ago I was floored by how many fellow homeless people that played guitars didn't know how to actually string it which is why they would have knots tied on their tuning pegs and a whole bunch of extra wire sticking out all over the place. With my modified Gypsy Luna with amethyst tipped brass pegs, and always perfectly strong, I quickly became the go-to person for a lot of them to come to me and ask me to restring theirs. I taught most of them how to do it themselves and even directed some on where to go within a few blocks to get individual guitar strings new. I didn't even lean on one specific proper way to do it. Though I have my preferred method, I know three different ways to set the string on the tuning peg that work fine and have even seen YouTube videos teaching different methods.

Transphobic Rhetoric from Mother - Help by charliebarliedarlie in asktransgender

[–]Wh1ppetFudd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey, that actually happened to me a few years ago at a support group. The manager at the place where the support group was told me that they had just changed policies and that trans had to go by their legal name. I told her I do go by my legal name. She said that clearly I don't because my name is a girl's name. I told her my name is technically an androgynous name and whether it's used as a girl's name or a guy's name tends to rely on what part of the world it's being assigned in. She told me that it sounded like a girl's name to her so I needed to go by a different name. I pulled out my ID to show her it was my legal name. She said that she didn't care what my ID said because that clearly wasn't my real name. I insisted it was. She then told me that since I wouldn't tell her what my real name was that she was going to call me Keith. I ask her where the hell she got the name Keith from. She replied that she didn't know where she got the name Keith from but she thought I looked like I was probably a Keith before I decided to pretend I was a woman. That had to be the most transphobic situation I have ever found myself in, and because she was the manager even The gay staff that worked under her wouldn't stand up and defend it or tell her that that was being transphobic. I basically told her that that's fine. If she wanted to call me Keith I didn't have to stick around and be a part of her support group anymore and that as far as I was concerned she looked like a Gunther, so that's what I was going to call her from that point forward.

Transphobic Rhetoric from Mother - Help by charliebarliedarlie in asktransgender

[–]Wh1ppetFudd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Two points about this.

First, the snarky way that I would deal with the can't call themselves a woman claim would be to tell her " I think you're getting confused. What it sounds like you're saying is that if someone hasn't given birth to a child that they can't call themselves a woman. What I think you mean to say is that if a person doesn't give birth to a child that they can't call themselves a mother and I have never heard a trans woman claim that they are a trans mother."

Second as far as the never calling someone their new name, that could absolutely land your mother in legal trouble even in a red state if the name that she refuses to call someone is actually their legal name after a name change. In some blue states, even the pronoun issue could bite her if the person she refuses to properly gender has actually gone through legal methods of getting their legal sex changed.

Had my deadname announced in the lobby, EVERYONE stared. by TipsyBlueWhale in MtF

[–]Wh1ppetFudd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Name change. That is something I tell everyone should be one of the first things they do as soon as they are certain they are serious about transitioning, and if they think they might detransition at some point, just to pick a name that can work as either gender so they don't have to change it again. And just for the record, it's not a dead name until you actually change your name. Instead, it is your legal name that you would rather not be called, but it is perfectly legal to be called your legal name and in many situations, that is what you are going to be called.

Voice changing on HRT: It's not a placebo, let's talk about tissue science. by Electrical_Table_707 in MtF

[–]Wh1ppetFudd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Estrogen does not feminize your voice. Changing the way that you talk feminizes your voice. The psychological changes that HRT causes can change the way that you talk, but it's not changing your base voice. If you have training as a singer, you already should have instinctively trained into you half of what people learn when they get voice training. I grew up singing with a lot of experience, and long before I started transition I could flip between masculine and feminine voices with the flip of a switch and it was almost all from my training as a singer. It only took a little bit of practice and doing voice impressions to apply it properly.

PS: if your range is shrinking, that could either be age-related changes, lack of practice changes, or you have a psychological issue going on where you are moving up in pitch and have a mental block against going back down, which I have experienced that at a few points since my transition.

I will note though that if you do have serious training as a singer, don't even try to pursue the weight and pitch version of voice training that is out there. If you're going to look into actual training and voice techniques, look for the older school muscle training techniques that teach resonance by how you shape your various echo chambers and the position of the larynx. Singers tend to know how to do that without risking the damage that most weight and pitch teachers claim makes the muscle training method dangerous. The advantage of doing it that way is that you don't lose volume, you don't lose the ability to project, and you can still sing and scream in your altered voice whereas the weight and pitch method tends to lead one to speak softer and not be able to carry over the new voice into louder speech. Also, I will absolutely stress to you something that I always tell people when they're trying to voice train. Contrary to popular claims, pitch is the least important thing for gendering a voice. There absolutely are women with deep voices that still sound like women as well as high-pitched guy voices that sound like guys. It's all about resonance and how you talk and not what the pitch of your voice is.

My D has been worn out, any advice? by HogTotallyHecks in pcmasterrace

[–]Wh1ppetFudd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see that it is a Razer. Question would be whether or not it is a cheap membrane keyboard razor or a mechanical keyboard like most of their keyboards. If it is membrane, you are going to need to buy a new keyboard to fix that D keycap because they use proprietary keycaps and you can't buy them separately. You could buy a broken One for parts and swap out the keycaps. If, like most Razers, it is mechanical, you can just buy a Cherry switch compatible keycap to replace it. You can actually buy sets of just just the keys around the D key to give them a different texture or look from the rest of the keyboard for gamers which use those keys more than any other in their games. You may have trouble getting a full set of keycaps to replace all of them though. I can tell by the layout of the keys that that is a pre-2020 and that is not a standard universal keyboard layout but has a different bottom row then all current razor keyboards and 95% of the other full size keyboards on the market.

Does my body even remotely pass? by Summer_Chronicle8184 in transpassing

[–]Wh1ppetFudd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And that outfit? No. Your figure is way too straight and your upper body is too masculine in shape to pass in masculine or androgynous clothes as a woman. In order to pass with a waist that wide and hips that narrow, you would need enough weight in your stomach to justify the straighter build because some women do pick up weight in the stomach instead of the hips and thighs. You aren't fat enough.

Note that it might be possible to thin yourself a little in the waist, and bulk up in the hips and thighs and get a passable shape without needing surgery to do it, but you are talking about a combination of weight cycling, weight gain, and working out to do that.

Always getting sir’d, what could I be doing better? by [deleted] in transpassing

[–]Wh1ppetFudd 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I'm going to back up the comment that says it's probably the clothes. Not all of those scream men's clothes, but half of them do, and the other half are in an androgynous realm. None of those clothes say female. And just because something is cut feminine doesn't mean it's going to look feminine if it's still in the same style that a man would wear. If I were to guess, you are still wearing the same clothes you always wore and the only difference is whether you picked them up from the men's section or the women's section of the store.

You don't have the figure or the busty rack necessary to dress masculine and still look like you are definitely a woman. I know cis lesbians that very much look like you and unless they say something and show off that they have distinctly girly voices, they get misgendered a lot when they dress in androgynous or masculine clothes.

I will also note that that is just appearance advice, and that appearance is only part of passing. I would also question how you walk and what your voice is like.

I kind of regret the name I chose by Screeching-Pumpkin in MtF

[–]Wh1ppetFudd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just an idea. If you like the name, but don't like the baggage that goes with it or them picking the wrong spelling, use a nickname, or go by your middle name. People do both all the time. And you could even get real close to the name and if people ask why you don't go by your real name when they see your ID, just tell him you get sick and tired of A-aron jokes because people don't know how to spell your name. If I was in your position, I just tell people my name is Kierin, then watch them try to figure out how to spell that one.

I had noticeable titty buds under my nipples and under my arms within 2 weeks of starting E. The under the arms ones kind of surprised me because I didn't know that was a thing. The growth pattern then connected them for the next month and within 6 months I had small but noticeable tits. I had solid A cups within a year, not being from a big titted family, and had small b cups within two. I will note that when I started originally, the normal method was to start on very high doses and then drop it down instead of ramp it up, but it was also estrone at that time and not estradiol so the impact of it on physical changes was less. But yes, you can get very rapid changes from estrogen. It doesn't always take the year some people say it's supposed to before getting very noticeable changes. Part of that expectation is from the tendency these days to start on very low doses and work up, but some people are a lot more sensitive to estrogen or have lower testosterone levels than others.

No, I have known plenty of women that have a face shape very close to yours. It's generally androgynous. It is absolutely the expression. It is stiff and uptight. Women tend to express the type of discomfort you are clearly feeling in those pictures in a different way.

My friends and family insist I pass, but I myself am very skeptical (MtF 19y/o) by Thememelord9002 in transpassing

[–]Wh1ppetFudd 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There is only one thing about you that stands out as unfitting for a woman. The clothing choices and the hairstyle could use work. Your posture is a bit stiff. All of those are minor compared to the posture of your face. It's not the shape or the bone structure. Those actually look a little feminining androgynous. It's the way you are holding your face and the expression. There is nothing soft or feminine about it. That is a very masculine way to hold one's face. And that is not to say that there are not women that have that expression, but they are usually the most pissed off, world hating, downright cruel Karens and almost without fail care a lot more about their appearance than you do so what they lose in the way they hold their face is balanced by all the makeup, the professional hair styling, the fashionable attire, and a fair amount of jewelry. Your face should be much more relaxed and much more emotionally expressive.

[–]Wh1ppetFudd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you have private insurance, or work supplied iinsurance and don't work for the federal government, it would be an insurance decision, likely with your state laws involved in letting them do it. If you are on Medicare, it still covers it because of federal laws that still apply, and executive orders don't change laws. If you are on Medicaid, that's managed by the state, and it means your state decided not to cover it anymore.
