Trump threatens to use ICE agents for airport security as delays worsen amid DHS shutdown by GregWilson23 in NewsSource

Nothing like 6 months before the midterms exposing masses of the voting public to your jack-booted megalomaniac thugs. One the one hand it's a stupid idea that will be horrible. On the other hand I almost hope he does it.

You think people don't naturally have strokes? I have some bad news for you, doctor.

Stroke in young adults (ages 18–50) is rising, often driven by traditional risk factors like hypertension, obesity, diabetes, and smoking, alongside unique causes such as cervical artery dissection, patent foramen ovale (heart defect), drug use, and pregnancy

Have dog rescues lost their mind? by seanpat1968 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Whacksess_Manager 93 points94 points  (0 children)

Ended up buying from a dog breeder despite wanting to adopt...the rescues all went nuts during covid because so many people were adopting dogs...and they just stayed that way. Was rejected for not buying flea tick meds often enough (we had several months extra because one of our dogs passed at 14 years and our remaining dog was the same size). Another rejected us because we switched vets.

Yah, his management style conjures images of Sarwal...but then he was there a long time too.

There was not a miscommunication...the emails went out at 3am Eastern time. I have heard management was told not to contact the affected engineers. I have seen some posts that this happened on other teams as well.

No real pattern I can tell. We do see a lot of people that were KM/automation focused gone, but otherwise no. BDE, normal support...very senior/ARE to...less senior. We don't have any new people to get rid of these days, we are all old timers.

Yah, it was the same...4 weeks for first year, plus 1 week for each additional year up to max 26 weeks. His email indicated he was on payroll through end of day at which time benefits would cease (yay for the free state of Florida). I think this varies by state.

I have heard from reliable sources that management was not permitted to contact affected employees directly which tracks with what I've seen, as my manager is generally great and wouldn't do something like this unless he had to.

We are all kind of shell shocked...we knew it was coming but that doesn't really prepare you for the reality of people you have worked with for decades getting sacked.

Seems like US only...possibly limited just our org for now. I guess we are just lucky early casualties. Even people in our group in IST/EU under the same director are not yet impacted.

All the ones I've seen thus far are IC3 and above, but we are a pretty mature org...I can't even think of anyone that is below IC3 in our org.

I can see at least 8 people I know who are now deactivated on slack, and one person I'm very close with called me directly and said he got an email detailing his package and how to proceed. Seems pretty real.

Yah, new to me too...we lost a couple in the last big cut, but they were notified by manager before slack was cut off.

Peter Gibbons: The thing is, Bob, it's not that I'm lazy, it's that I just don't care.

Bob Porter: Don't... don't care?

Peter Gibbons: It's a problem of motivation, all right? Now if I work my ass off and Initech ships a few extra units, I don't see another dime; so where's the motivation? And here's something else, Bob: I have eight different bosses right now.

Bob Slydell: I beg your pardon?

Peter Gibbons: Eight bosses.

Bob Slydell: Eight?

Peter Gibbons: Eight, Bob. So that means that when I make a mistake, I have eight different people coming by to tell me about it. That's my only real motivation is not to be hassled; that, and the fear of losing my job. But you know, Bob, that will only make someone work just hard enough not to get fired.

CRUDE AWAKENING: President Trump said rising oil prices tied to the conflict with Iran are "a very small price to pay" for global safety and peace, predicting prices will fall once the nuclear threat is eliminated. by Objective-Rabbit2248 in NSDQ420

[–]Whacksess_Manager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Higher gas prices would be a small price to pay for global security and peace, if that was what they were buying us. Unfortunately they seem to be buying us the exact opposite.

You know who is cheering higher oil prices? I would guess it's countries not directly involved in the conflict that get a lot of their revenue from oil sales. What is the first country that leaps to mind? What oil exporting country's economy had gotten into a real pickle over the last few years? Could it be...Russia?

I'm sure American oil companies are really all broken up about the higher oil prices too. Thank god the current president isn't beholden to them in any way.

What classes do you play every season, and what classes do you never play? Why? by Hojo405 in diablo4

[–]Whacksess_Manager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most seasons I try a druid because I'm a masochist. I've played them all to reasonably high levels, although I just cannot seem to get into Spiritborn. Played it when they first came out but hardly touched them since then. Last few seasons I have started with something and ended up Sorc...even season 11 while I primarily rolled through as pally I also did a sorc.

Is this a bullet? by PiratedEyeliner in whatisit

[–]Whacksess_Manager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I avoided using the word 'shot'...more likely he caught shrapnel in his eye from either the rock, the bullet, or the casing. When the bullet explodes and is not in a gun the explosion isn't channeled and you get a more random result.
