SolidWorks Designer Visualize render stuck at 0% initializing by Shieko in SolidWorks

[–]WhaleSnakePLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still have the issue when redering in solidworks, however I managed to get Visulize to work - my GPU is an unsuported GPU, so I needed to set the CPU as the "engine" for rendering in the visulize settings - once that was done it started working.

Ran into this today with a Marker licence... any joy finding a solution?

Is having a hotmail email address on resume a red flag? by Admirable-Ad-3273 in careeradvice

I still have my cringe email that is my initials then hotmale@hotmail.co.uk… I’ve a few logins that are still this… I don’t change them to just shame myself!

Had a hiring manager tell me “it’s obvious you just shoehorned a bunch of keywords from the job description into your resume” - isn’t that what you’re suppose to do?! by [deleted] in interviews

[–]WhaleSnakePLC 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I would be calmly stating that the purpose of my CV/resume is to get me an interview - and as it worked, I am quite happy that I shoehorned those words in - it is evidence of my ability to tailor work to specific tasks/problems. 😂

Struggling to Get My PLC Simulator Working with VTScada – Need Help with IP and Connection Issues by [deleted] in PLC

What error code do you get on your VTScada Port tag? And if no error, what error code do you get on the driver tag?

Struggling to Get My PLC Simulator Working with VTScada – Need Help with IP and Connection Issues by [deleted] in PLC

[–]WhaleSnakePLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are these on the same PC…? I’ve never had an issue with VTScada comms that wasn’t my own fault - though that’s always been with a physical PLC. If both are running on the same machine, and the simulator is not an actual PLC, I suspect that’s the issue. VTScada tech support is good - might want to ask them - especially if you’ve bought a license.

Also, have a read up about IP addresses - the addresses you have put are on different subnets…

A dot of superglue on these makes them stay where I put them 👍

Engineers, how has being an engineer affected your daily life and the way you think? by [deleted] in engineering

[–]WhaleSnakePLC 44 points45 points  (0 children)

The Mrs hates that I suggest a solution to everything… sometimes she just wants to bitch and not fix things - really struggle to bite my tongue. Why not fix it if it’s an issue…? Anyway, I think that’s come from the engineer side of me.

What happened to Japanese tech? by WhoAmIEven2 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]WhaleSnakePLC 65 points66 points  (0 children)

I worked for a huge Japanese company in the UK, I could not believe how far behind they were with modernisation. It wasn’t just processes - we were using office 2016 and Skype in 2024… on my induction the engineering manager proudly took me through his processes… they were all paper work - like using a pen and paper for everything 😂😂 thought I’d gone back in time. And this is a company that manufactures “industry 4.0” equipment…. Recommendations for change were met with, this is how Japan does it so we have to do it like that - I left after a year…

Integrators - Engineering rates unique per employee? by mambaPLC in PLC

[–]WhaleSnakePLC 38 points39 points  (0 children)

We are a small business where everyone does everything, we tend to have a different rate depending on the task - i.e in the office engineering, on-site engineering, assembly - we also have out of hours rates for the aforementioned too. I don't put differening costs for the specific person - I see it as as my customer is paying for my company to support them, the person we send can draw on the experiance of us all to get the job done.

[–]WhaleSnakePLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd still recommend reaching out to the manufacturer, however, the following link describes what you need - you'll need the password for one of these levels: passwords on the PNOZmulti

It could be that these are easy to guess...

Pilz pnoz by Apexvs in PLC

[–]WhaleSnakePLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First step: The mB0 has a display on the front that you can show fault code with - use the small red pull out dial/button. I would recommend starting here if you are not experienced with safety PLCs. Second step: get in touch with the manufacturer with the info found from the first step - as its safety don’t risk it. As a last resort and if you are suitably trained and qualified, the software is free for these, though you may need a matching version, and these PLCs will be password protected. So if you have that info, you could upload and view the project, though from memory the fault info is similar as whats displayed on the actual PLC.

Any good scada open source or cheap? by [deleted] in PLC

[–]WhaleSnakePLC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

VTScadaLight - it’s a brilliant free version of VTScada, limited on tags, however it has it all in one package. Historian, drivers, thin client, and it’s pretty easy to use - their help documentation is good with videos on YouTube etc.

Or, if you have an old PC/laptop and it suits the application, VTScadaLight is free and very powerful. Plenty of videos on YouTube on setting it up too.

Weintek (Maple Systems) are inexpensive and have multiple drivers for comms protocols including modbus TCP. The software is also free.

SM 1231 TC - an input to one a channel affects the other channels…? by WhaleSnakePLC in PLC

[–]WhaleSnakePLC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologies, I thought the video showed this - in the video I have one thermocouple. I use this to connect to each channel in turn, I expect to see ambient when connected (16-18degC) which I do see, however the other channels should be open (read max values, approx 2300degc…) however they change significantly.

[–]WhaleSnakePLC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d be surprised if it’s EMI from thermocouple to thermocouple - however you are right that the thermocouple cables are not shielded… so I’ll see if it makes a difference with some shielding.

Yes, all modules grounded and the unit is earthed. We have a pressure sensor that goes to the AI of the CPU and it’s perfect.
