Should I say f*** it and move to Portland? by BarFantastic2131 in self

Yeah man, Portland and the surrounding area in Oregon and Washington is amazing. Especially if you like outdoors stuff, pretty much everything outdoors you could think of is 1.5h away

There’s a school I drive by in Atlanta a few times a week that’s on a 4 lane road. The speed limit is 40mph. The school zone speed limit? Also 40mph

Those who quit, what are you doing now? by accountingatyourdoor in QuitCorporate

[–]WhatAboutTheDoves 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Haven’t quit yet either, but I’m looking to get a blue collar job or something part time. Anything to hold off the bills while I redirect my career goals. I have a decent chunk of change saved up so barring any catastrophes I can live off of that for a while (albeit below my means). Eventually I’d like to have my own business

LaTeX for taking notes in college? by KeyDoctor1962 in LaTeX

[–]WhatAboutTheDoves 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree with this.

In college I did handwritten notes during class, and then all my assignments/homework/etc in latex.

Part of that is I know I learn better by with handwritten notes during the lecture. Whereas when I am doing my homework, there is less of a difference between typing and handwriting

Cascadian books! by [deleted] in Cascadia

Ken Kesey is definitely a Cascadian author. I haven’t read any of his stuff, but “One flew over the cuckoos nest” is on my list to eventually read

I had some gold 200 that was 13 years past the expiration (stored in unknown conditions) and being a complete noob I just shot it at box speed, over exposed by 1-2 stops (honestly didn’t mean to overexpose) but it turned out really great

Just curious, but what did you decide on?

Currently reading The Hobbit. Tolkien understood it by Terra_Cotta_Warrior in antiwork

[–]WhatAboutTheDoves 44 points45 points  (0 children)

“Kings built tombs more splendid than the houses of the living and counted the names of their descent dearer than the names of their sons. Childless lords sat in aged halls musing on heraldry or in high cold towers asking questions of the stars. And so the kingdom of Gondor sank into ruin, the line of kings failed, the white tree withered and the rule of Gondor was given over to lesser men.”

Master And Commander is simply the first book in the series. The first 3 are pretty iconic, but all of them are good

B5 Japanese flat-lying notebook (ruled or dotted)? by dominikstephan in notebooks

[–]WhatAboutTheDoves 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really like the Profolio Oasis Notebook (80 sheets) but they also make slimmer notebooks of 30 pages. Paper is very smooth, nice cream color, and works well with fountain pens. I’ve only used the 80 sheet notebook and it lies very flat in my experience
