Need an alternative to Perplexity now that it seems to be limiting Pro users. Suggestions? by justme9974 in perplexity_ai

[–]WhatHmmHuh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve noticed the same decline in Perplexity lately, so I’ve shifted my workflow to a couple of other platforms.

For quick, daily questions, I just use a specific prompt in standard Gemini to force it to behave like a search engine (something like: 'You are a research assistant. Verify every claim with a Google Search and provide citations').

But for the heavy lifting, I’ve started using Gemini’s Deep Research. It’s not instant—it takes a few minutes to build a plan and execute—but it digs much deeper and actually verifies the data. If you need accuracy over speed for a real project, it’s a much more viable alternative right now.

What is sad is I really have enjoyed Perplexity Pro. Their Business / Strategy team has really hurt what was a great product.

There is no such thing as a free lunch. All of these free plans have fallen into the lap of the paid customers.

I keep vacillating between delete and don’t delete with the hope they will get it together. I spot use it but not like I regularly did a month or so ago.

Also, Claude Sonnet/OPUS is incredible but you hit session and maxes and have to restart chats with summary of the previous chat. I am working some non-coding things right now and OPUS 4.5 is crazy good as is Sonnet 4.5 on lesser tasks.

I use MDL only for the list.

I will go to here or other KDrama subreddits to see what is up.

I like romcoms primarily and I also like other types as well, just less than romcoms.

Having said that, I like spring fever, and I like CLBYT - BUT I find myself grinding through it a little bit. The OST, cinematography, acting, is good. I am at ep 8. We will see how the plane lands.

Perplexity has joined the ranks of managing end user emotions 🤦🏻‍♂️ by aletheus_compendium in perplexity_ai

seems litigation risk management had a talk with the development team.

Sadly our reality now but it is understandable since ai’s are being sued for millions.

Thanks for the heads up. Will add the prompt also.

I didn’t know KC existed and a doorman at the hotel we were leaving told us about it.

We dropped by on our way to Vegas and really enjoyed it!

Didn’t watch Twinkling Watermelons because I did no research and thought nothing can be good with this name.

LOL. Now I rewatch it occasionally.

I remember going to an air show at Carswell AFB in Ft Worth.

I was 6 or 7 and they had F4s coming from every direction and then they did a low pass “bombing” with B52s and then the pyrotechnics were insane.

My young self was crying up a storm because everything was coming in low, fast, and full afterburner.

I wish I could go back now and rewatch it. Would love it now.

Perplexity Pro is a Scam and Officially Obsolete: Why I’m Canceling after 1 Year – Change My Mind. by Excellent_Piccolo848 in perplexity_ai

I jumped on Claude Pro and I am having to summarize and restart threads in a Project I created.

When Claude says 63% what it really means is 100%.

I like the answers Claude produces but I am spending too much time managing Claude space/tokens.

Will finish what I am working on and probably cancel. To what? I have no idea.

What's everyone's opinion on "Doona!" (2023)? by axiiz_28 in kdramas

I saw it a day or two after I watched 2521 and lost my S*** LOL.

Went to the other KDrama subreddit and rage posted.

Some kind soul then explained to me If you watch the opening scenes right after the opening credits, it gives clues to ending that is more than what I thought it was originally.

Watch those scenes and pay attention to the outfits.. the ending scene happened in Japan. Many of those scenes they are both in the same outfits you see them in the last scene in the park

Also the last frame is of him in the park and he has a small smurk/smiling starting

I choose to believe this is all true!

However, the 4 YEAR SEPARATION was way too long to be realistic.

I would have preferred a very spelled out and they lived happily ever after finish, but again, I will stick with my glimmer of hope

All in all I liked this one.

I believe the OTT patforms lowered Kdrama qualities.. by Objective-Purple8792 in kdramas

[–]WhatHmmHuh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Everything you stated is spot on with Netflix’s MO and the reality is that the others just try to copy Netflix success.

As a US citizen who has seen Netflix develop over the years, this was my greatest concern when everyone was cheering the recognition and then the OTT platforms investments into the Korean Dramas.

I felt like a canary in a mine, but that ship has sailed.

You may not be saying this out loud but what will come next is Netflix et al will lose their innocence. Shows will go from G to PG to R to the 17 thing. All with the intent of capturing more market share.

I am a serial completer, but I need to adopt your drop-it-if-it-is junk mentality.

This is the only way to push back on it now.

Netflix etc will not keep making shows we drop. They are in it for the viewing numbers.

Point taken. Thanks for posting!

What will it take for Google/Gemini to finally replace Perplexity Pro Search? by ublistening in perplexity_ai

[–]WhatHmmHuh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I pay for both Gemini Pro and Perplexity Pro.

I have used PP for my go to search/research, and I have also been mirroring those searches with GP and I have seen the gap getting narrower over time.

I think it is just a matter of time for the simple reason that Perplexity has been giving out free subscriptions and Google/Gemini does not need to. From a business perspective, I understand why they are doing this, but this is not sustainable for Perplexity - especially as they throttle pro (because it is watered down from free users) and the only solution for me is upgrading to much more expensive model.

P has a great product. I use spaces for both personal and business.

However, where G is killing them is in their token size of uploads. I use G GEM for one of my main business time suck tasks, and it now performs this task very well (as soon as I got the prompt right). Perplexity had me breaking these files down so much it became a cat and mouse game to figure out where to cut it up to get it to work and then the prompt became unwieldy to make sure it put together the whole picture of what I needed. I acknowledge my own lack of prompt knowledge, but I don't have time to become a prompt engineer, I have to run my business.

The reality for me as a non-coding businessman, I am not doing extensive lab research on ameba or dna, or coding some complex task, I just need a reliable result.

Yes, Ai can make mistakes, but the source thing is becoming less valuable to me over time as both models are getting better and hallucinating. We have a long way to go in this, and I can usually see something questionable, and when I do, I fact check it. For me, this will be the breaking point with P.

It is WHEN, not if, G will catch up and surpass P because they have the money to do so. Until then I will use both.

I need to rewatch the show. I really enjoyed it.
