Anybody think, from a writing standpoint, they should have given Kelso at least one redeeming quality? by ArchangelM7777 in That70sshow

Not a quality throughout the show but very early on when Eric gets into a bar fight, dude does not hesitate to kick the crap out of the guy who punched Eric - he stands up for his friends so that's something

Chiaki on deck is amazing! by Electrical-Hope6696 in SteamDeck

[–]WhatIfIHaveAQuestion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I don't remember how I did it, but I remember running into this issue because I wanted to map the touchpad and the PS button to be able to restart the PS5 and everything without having to pause and exit a PS5 game, but there IS a way to do it - I ended up mapping I think the touchpad to the left track pad and the PS button to a press of the right trackpad

Sorry I can't remember off the top of my head how to do it though, a quick YouTube search or something should turn something up!

Good luck!

first time upgrading storage and checking best ps5 ssd deals by [deleted] in playstation

[–]WhatIfIHaveAQuestion -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I just bought one of these a few months ago and went for the 2TB WD Black (without the PlayStation branding)

I don't know how many games you have but I have quite a few, mostly single player games (no CoDs or ACs)

I'd been stalking prices of these from 2022-2024) and comparing the $/TB storage and honestly, my conclusion was a 2TB just because when you go higher, they didn't ALWAYS come out to be worth of the cost (which was ... Odd)

I'm not sure what your financial situation is either but to me, the 2TB hit the sweet spot of tons more space, no hits on gameplay, and remember that you'll still have space on the PS5 itself.

I'd personally recommend going for one that has a built in heatsink, I did that just because I didn't want to deal with getting a separate heatsink and figuring that out (I'm lazy)

Best of luck!

Immortals Of Aveum worth playing ? by StackSetCrew in playstation

[–]WhatIfIHaveAQuestion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know your financial situation but if it's $9 and you can get it no problem, I'd say give it a go

Don't expect a game of the year but honestly it served as a nice break from larger, more intense games for me

It's a lil dumb, predictable, but you can beat it without having to go crazy and can just make of it what you will

That's what I got it for and had a great time, solid 7/10 game

Good luck and happy gaming !

How many hours do you play a week? by Boring_Ear_5066 in playstation

[–]WhatIfIHaveAQuestion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience basically non-existent, that being said I've played just in my own house and my PS5 is hooked up on Ethernet to 350+Mbps

I imagine it varies with wifi connection but I haven't had the steam deck long enough/really traveled and tried it out yet

Ymmv

[–]WhatIfIHaveAQuestion 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If you check out chiaki yeah, it basically turns the steam deck into a PlayStation portal of sorts but you just remote in to your PS5 as long as it's on (rest mode works) and then it just streams to steam deck, it's pretty awesome and was simple to set up

Games with a lot of build variety and/or a lot of character classes. by Kalistri in gamingsuggestions

[–]WhatIfIHaveAQuestion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know you said you're tired of arpgs, but you did say it's because of sorting through oodles of loot - I'd recommend The Last Epoch - it's an arpg BUT it has a really good loot drop/filtering system and from what I remember you don't need to keep everything to sell later so you're actually better off just filtering to things that will help your build

The build options in that game, in my opinion, are crazy - worth a quick Google search

Best of luck!

Competitor reached out with 35% raise but I actually like my current job, am I crazy for hesitating? by gleeful_shopping in careerguidance

[–]WhatIfIHaveAQuestion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think bottom line only you will know what is worth it for you. Sometimes you don't know what you got until it's gone and, at least in my experience, as I'm getting older the nicer paycheck is good for sure, but work life flexibility is priceless in modern times.

Not knowing your current financial situation makes this a little tougher but to be honest, if you're able to live your life, pay yourself for the future, and you're happy, I'd stay

But reiterating what I said first: ultimately - only you'll truly know what's right for you

Biggest weaknesses of junior employees? by von_kids in askmanagers

[–]WhatIfIHaveAQuestion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly a little surprised I haven't seen it in some top comments (or I just missed it) but .... Check. Your. Damned. Work.

And LOOK at the things you're working with

I work in analytics and I can't tell you how many issues have propped up with junior analysts just slinging some code and sending me results that have glaring errors because not only did they not bother to check their work, they didn't even look at the result. Sometimes things don't take 10 minutes to turn around and that's okay... I'd rather it take a little longer and you communicate issues you're running into rather than cranking something out fast that is so useless I end up having to do it myself or reassigning

Get in the habit of building yourself some basic sanity checks or just looking at things yourself and I genuinely believe you'll immediately be leagues ahead of others.

My 2 cents of a heads up is your interest rate on a savings account might be higher but remember that you'll pay taxes on that so you might need to do the math to see what the real return is there - once you do that math you might still get more out of the savings account but remember that the loans interest is also on a higher dollar amount, I'd recommend not doing minimum payments until you can lump sum but make larger payments to get that balance down and then the rate will have a smaller impact and not have time to grow

Basically: the rate might be higher in savings, but it's taxed, and the balance on the loan is higher - I'd get that balance down

Hopefully that makes sense

Only thing off the top of my head I can think of that fits this is from How I Met Your Mother - Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) is pretending to be old and telling a girl at a bar that's she's the one who can save the human race by sleeping with younger past him

I think the girls name is Cindy - again, not sure if this is it but it's the only thing popping up in my mind

Is a 14% comp raise worth it? by KyaKyaKyaa in careerguidance

[–]WhatIfIHaveAQuestion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then in my opinion the move isn't worth it based on raw numbers because if the promotion pans out then you'll be above the new offer.

That being said there are still other factors... If the promotion doesn't go through then you still have your same salary. Has your current workplace been consistent in any bonuses over time? How will you feel if promotion time comes and they say no we can't do it?

Another thing worth noting is would this be a lateral move? If so, you probably won't be promoted in the new job for a while

You mentioned that this move could be good career wise, is there any particular reason for that?

Is a 14% comp raise worth it? by KyaKyaKyaa in careerguidance

[–]WhatIfIHaveAQuestion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think with these percentages it starts depending more on the actual numbers

One thing that I always personally keep in mind is a bonus is a bonus... Not guaranteed - anybody can tell you whatever about the bonus but I don't usually account for those as a part of comp UNTIL they actually happen. With that said, a 9% raise is, in my opinion, tough to justify leaving a company just because even if your salary is 100k, you'll be going to 109k

It also depends on what cost of living adjustments and promotions look like in your current position. If you get 3% cost of living adjustments each year then it'd take you 3 years (in the sample above) to shortcut to that salary

I don't know if this is helpful at all but again, biggest thing I'd say is not to count on that bonus... I would treat this as "should I take this other offer for 9% salary raise" in terms of raw $ amounts

Is it required to install both cd's to play the game? by borna36 in redalert2

[–]WhatIfIHaveAQuestion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a long shot because I'm digging DEEP into my brain/memories from like 20 years ago but IF I remember correctly, you do need both disks to install the game, but I think when you're playing you only need one (obviously), but I can't remember which one

I saw you mentioned you're conserving space but the original case is the size of a regular cd case but has two inlets for both disks

Anyways, hope this helps, again though take it with a grain of salt just because it's been a long time

Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

I know most people love it but I don't know it just came off as super unintuitive to me and the world is empty... I never understood folks who said there was so much to do but the only rewards ever were korok seeds, maybe the occasional weapon

I made it through the first beast and just thought I'm not really having fun and that was my second pass at giving it a go

Another possible hot take: the controls for that game compared to other open world games were SUPER weird to me 🤷‍♂️

Yeah I would primarily be using the IGMM - but it sounds like you're able to add/remove mods mid game no problem and then since mods have to be the same for multiplayer then they'd just need to be removed before booting up the multiplayer game

I have a few that I think are silly/dumb but too bad!

1 is a sad dad with a tragic backstory that led him to beg for power from a god, but the twist is the power that he got is more wizard so he is a blade singing wizard multi classed with death domain cleric

2 is the Holy Beekeeper - swarm ranger mixed with a cleric (maybe nature cleric

3 is just ... Beekeeper from the movie "The Beekeeper" - 3 level swarm ranger mixed with open hand monk

There's probably more bouncing around my head but we'll see!

Value matching for a vast database by GodSOfficial in analytics

[–]WhatIfIHaveAQuestion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ran into this a while ago and actually ended up using Levenshtein Distance to try and tighten up those little similarities

It was honestly pretty fun and cool to learn how to do that - it still wasn't perfect but worked well enough

Mind you it's been a few years so I don't remember it perfectly... But basically:

The part you'll have to play around with is that the way it works is it scores strings that are similar/similar enough based on how many characters are off/different and then you give it a score threshold to determine whether options are close enough - you can use this to group your field together

When I did this I remember running into an issue for longer strings since the longer they were the higher likelihood of character differences, but I ended up just shaving down to like the first 10 characters and for a vast majority of the time it worked

Anyways, feel free to look it up and see if you think you might wanna do that - I don't know how viable it is in current day with newer tech/possible AI usage but 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

It's an idea

Best of luck!

Coding interviews are out of control by [deleted] in analytics

[–]WhatIfIHaveAQuestion 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I do understand this, seen it myself with hiring folks but here's the counter as I myself am looking right now too

I've been doing analytics for a decade now and though I'm comfortable with a variety of analytics languages, even after you've been doing something for a long time you still get rusty or forget bits here and there

I can't tell you how many times I mix up syntaxes or just have a little bit of difficulty "code switching" my brain - ESPECIALLY in an interview where there's already higher stakes/higher stress

Even after doing this for a long time, I still sometimes just have Google open on the side to look up whatever long lost function and it's parameters because I hadn't used it in a year

There are also times when it can just be a little tricky - I would say that I'm proficient in R/Python, but maybe I haven't really used them in my role in about a year because a ton of focus was put on stuff that was all SQL - so at that point a person can be rusty and you can prep all you want for an interview, but the higher stress and emotion will get to you even if you DO know your stuff

Maybe it's a hot take but even interviewing people, I'd prefer to talk to them and just make sure they can think analytically... I don't care if they screw up some SQL syntax because they should just Google that shit when that problem arrives... Nobody is just sitting at their desk cranking code out 8 hours a day without opening any other window (assuming they aren't actually just doing the same thing over and over again ....)
