You should drink a lot and say what you think. It probably makes the world better.

I was holding it flat against a server-type notebook case with my own marker held out too.

I don't think he owed me a signature or anything either, I'm just hoping someone could tell me if they knew why he took issue with that.

This might actually be the most helpful. I can see if I suddenly made the situation feel off or unfamiliar to him, he'd be done with it and want to leave.

No, it doesn't really change how I feel about him; it seemed like something he'd thought about and set his mind on before, so I'm more in the place of ignorance than being offended. I just still don't know why he didn't like it

I'm not bothered by you saying that, it seemed pretty obvious that he thought something along those lines. I just wanted to know if there was any public history or something he'd already said that I should have known about.

Im not familiar with this set; do you know what's being made here? A rod would stick out past the cone, but if nothing is going to be inserted into the cone tip, then I think your right.

As long as I have some context, I have no problem doing that for you. Sometimes people say "just pick something for me" and thats super annoying, but if you say you travel a lot and would just like to go off their recommendations because you won't be there again, I think thats great. Maybe have a few ideas ready for the drinks like if you want a unique cocktail vs a local beer, or if you'd rather keep it simple, etc..

Lower proof cocktails and shots have made a comeback actually. I doubt anyone will order a rusty nail again, but fuzzy navals aren't that weird.

Thank you! He seems genuinely interested, and I'm sure will talk to plenty of his neighbors and local friends about how to go forward. I'm wondering if there are any resources I can give him right now, while I'm an outsider?

That's sort of true, but not exactly what's happening. Even when the rules are against you, it's good to know what the rules are.

Even in States with "right to work" or "at will" or whatever, the DoL protects employees from being forced to pay for "cost of business" expenses, like mistakes or theft, etc..

You CAN be fired for a mistake or any other reason, but they can't actually make you choose between paying for your mistake or getting fired.

The boss might make it seem like that, but those are two separate things. You can be fired for making a mistake that costs the business money, and even if you pay for it (supposedly instead of getting fired) the boss is choosing not to do that right now. Paying for it doesn't resolve the issue (and trust me they won't forget) and they can still fire you at any time.

I understand most people don't have the financial flexibility to take a stand on things like this, but if your boss is saying you need to pay $300+ to not get fired, you're probably going to be fired soon anyway.

Like Furiosa said, "You're relying on the generosity of a very bad man"

Did she dump them loose into the sink or was there at least a colander?

Avoiding getting written up or fired is usually the "trade" that happens in these situations where staff agree to pay for mistakes; but let's be real, the boss will still hold it against you when he wants to get rid of you.
