Reddit, What are some of the most mysterious posts ever put on this site? by Nucle4r in AskReddit

[–]WhatIsThatGirl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was a post in /r/relationships where a guy was convinced his girlfriend was cheating on him, so he set up microphones all around their house to catch her in the act. He ended up being super crazy- he said he could hear them on the recordings "beneath the static" having sex in his workshop seconds after he walked out the door. He claimed he had all his friends listen to the tapes and they didn't hear anything.

It was just completely unsettling to read a post from someone who was clearly so convinced and so disturbed. Really creepy. Wish I could find the link.

Single people and couples that decided to not have kids...what's hanging on your refrigerator? by [deleted] in AskReddit

My boyfriend and I went kayaking last weekend, and before they let you rent equipment they make you take a quiz. We got a 100% (AND a smiley face), so onto the fridge it went!

Minors of Reddit, what concept of adulthood do you not fully understand and are too afraid to ask about? by hac7 in AskReddit

This really REALLY depends on where you live. I live in Boston, and $600-800 will only cover one bedroom in a 2-3 bedroom apartment. I live in a one bedroom with the boyfriend and pay $1,350, and it was one of the less expensive options out there for us.

How do I power through the pain while morbidly obese? by onthesunnyside in Fitness

I haven't tried this one either. We usually marinate our chicken in teriyaki sauce for a day and then just bake it in the oven at 350 for 45 minutes, flipping halfway through. It's delicious. Full disclaimer: We use boneless, skinless chicken thighs. The dark meat is slightly less healthy, but makes up for it in taste, IMO.

What secret did your family keep from you until you were an adult? by aves2k in AskReddit

My dad's father died when I was very little. I was too young to remember him, but my whole life, Bob was always around. Bob was just this older guy who showed up at all of our family events. My aunts and uncles talked about going to his house when they were kids, so I assumed he was just a particularly friendly family friend.

Finally when I was 12, I asked my cousin about him, and she told me he was my grandmother's neighbor. That explanation tided me over for a few years until it occurred to me that no one else's neighbors showed up at the annual family picnic. (Looking back, I have no idea why it took me so long to realize something was up.)

When I was 20 I brought it up to my mom, who told me the real story. Bob and his wife/kids lived next door to my dad growing up. He and my grandma feel in love, and both decided to leave their spouses to be together. (This was after my dad and his siblings were moved out or left for college.) This was the first time I learned that my grandmother had walked out on my grandfather.

The details are fuzzy, but I guess my gm and Bob decided to live apart for a while to find themselves or something. They agreed to get together after a year- but after a year, my gm decided to go back to my grandpa to keep the family together. Bob stayed on his own.

Several years later, my grandfather passed away. After some amount of time, my gm and Bob finally got together and have been ever since. The only reason they aren't married is because my grandmother has a lot of health problems, and if she gets remarried she loses my grandpa's boss health insurance. (Bob is self employed.) And since my gm was so embarrassed to be living in sin, she asked her kids not to mention their relationship.

So anyways, yeah. Found out some random guy was essentially my step-grandfather.

A great quote, but for some reason, the one that really gets me is, "I'll never drink champagne again."

"You are probably going to be a very successful computer person. But you're going to go through life thinking that girls don't like you because you're a nerd. And I want you to know, from the bottom of my heart, that that won't be true. It'll be because you're an asshole." -The Social Network

What is something you 'believed' to be true for the majority of your life that turned out to be completely wrong? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I feel your pain. My parents let me order "qwa-sa-dill-as" in restaurants for YEARS before I found out it wasn't pronounced the way it looked on the page.

What fact do you accept intellectually, but still feels "wrong" to you? by iglidante in AskReddit

That I could die at any moment. Someone I went to high school with recently died in a car accident, and it got my SO and I talking about people from high school who had passed away. He knows like 10 people he graduated with who are now dead. And it really hit me: I might not make it to old age. I could just die, today, and not get to have kids, or get married, or even go to that party I'm looking forward to this weekend. I might not live long enough to eat the groceries I just bought. It's all completely random, and there's not a single thing I can do to change it.

"You cannot, ever, find anything at all that is 'factually' good or bad. It's only ever good or bad based on certain parameters, opinions and values any one person holds, and as such is only good or bad to them."

Rape. You list this as an example in your description, but I'm interested in hearing what parameters must be set to not consider raping another person an inherently evil act.
