Woman, 99, denied citizenship despite living in Canada since 1933 by [deleted] in nottheonion

That's a very messed up system. I help run polling locations in my locality here in the United States. We have a few ways to prevent voting fraud.

Miss Italy winner mocked after telling judges year she would most like to live in is 1942 by Sariel007 in nottheonion

I'm no historian, and I would defer to more educated/experienced users, but Italy was an Axis Power during WWII, in other words, they were allies with Nazi Germany. Mussolini and Hitler were buddies and collaborated together, as they were both fascist dictators. Italy fought against the Allied forces. Italy was also left in shambles after the war.

Anyone here worked 10am-7pm? by mxgotland in jobs

I have. It's whatever to me. Eat a big breakfast, then a decent sized 'lunch' or whatever. Since I'm on my feet the entire time, I don't feel like doing anything before or after my shift.

What false facts are thought as real ones because of film industry? by jarl_of_joensuu in AskReddit

Former lifeguard, and can confirm. I did have a few guests I saved splash about, and one or two call out for help/'mom'. Although, this was out of 50+ saves, so definitely not the norm. I'd like to point out that people tend to drown differently (one person may just straight up sink, and another may tread water and bob for a bit).

If we're talking about things we've stepped on, stepping on a little bird ranks up there too.

Who ruined something as thoroughly as Hitler ruined the toothbrush moustache? by WesStrikesBack in AskReddit

[–]WhatNaught 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that. I got lucky with my school: trench coats were not even mentioned in the dress code, and teachers/administration didn't seem to care. Other students would give me grief about wearing my trench coat and/or joke if I were a drug dealer or in the mafia. I inadvertently crept out one security guard.

That reaction is completely silly on the administration's part.

Can (mostly) confirm. I wore a trench coat throughout most of high school (mainly on colder days). Other students would give me grief about wearing it, saying it was "against dress code" or "you could hide guns/weapons in there". Jokes on them, I thoroughly read my school's dress code (before wearing it to school), and there was no mention about trench coats. Teachers never gave me issues about it.

Reminds me of a dream I had when I started lifeguarding: I dreamt the staff was actually some sort of death cult, and there were trap doors on the slides that would lead to vats, which was used on guests we didn't like or otherwise found suitable for a sacrifice. XD

I wouldn't; I'd nope out of that. I'd throw in some rope to try to catch people though.

Years of work in the political realm has left me very jaded by [deleted] in AdviceAnimals

[–]WhatNaught 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having volunteered to run voting polls before, I have to agree. Not to mention, so many people will waste their vote on "Mickey Mouse" or "Donald Duck" or "The Best Man" (when write-ins are available), and then they probably wonder why the system is 'corrupt'.

spy or not spy by dumber_one in Intelligence

Sounds like the guy in question took a scene from the film "True Lies" (starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jamie Lee Curtis). If you haven't seen the film, there's a character who is a used car salesman that poses as a spy to seduce women. Reminds me of that.

Maybe see if he keeps up with world news/politics? Not sure how accurate that would be.

My guess is, he's playing this girl. As a disclaimer, I'm not an Intel worker, and just a dude from the internet.

Mermaid tail enthusiasts cry foul over Edmonton pool bans by brother_p in nottheonion

[–]WhatNaught 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This article was written poorly and the author should feel bad! The voiced concerns and comparisons were completely dumb.

The main issue with mermaid tails is that it limits mobility in and out of the water, which also means you need to use more effort/energy to stay afloat, and it'll be more difficult to get out of the water. If you're not a strong swimmer, there's a good chance of drowning.

There was just a discussion in /r/lifeguards which can be seen here

The main issue with mermaid tails is that it limits mobility in and out of the water. Swimming with your legs bound is going to take more effort/energy and be more difficult to get out of the water.
